Joshua 5

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 When al the kings of the Amorites living to westward across the Jordan, and al the kings of theCanaanites living on the seaboard, heard that Yahweh had dried up the waters of the Jordan before theIsraelites until they had crossed, their hearts failed and they lost al courage to resist the Israelites.	1 Cuando todos los reyes de los amorreos que ocupaban la región situada al oeste del Jordán y todos los reyes de los cananeos que estaban junto al mar, oyeron que el Señor había secado las aguas del Jordán delante de los israelitas, hasta que ellos pasaron, su corazón desfalleció y nadie tuvo ánimo para oponerles resistencia.
2 At this time Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again (a secondtime).	2 En aquel tiempo, el Señor dijo a Josué: «Fabrícate unos cuchillos de piedra y vuelve a circuncidar a los israelitas».
3 Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites on the Hil of Foreskins.	3 Josué hizo entonces unos cuchillos de piedra y circuncidó a los israelitas en la Colina de los Prepucios.
4 The reason why Joshua circumcised them was this. Al the males of the people who had come out ofEgypt of age to bear arms had died in the desert on their journey after leaving Egypt.	4 Los circuncidó por el siguiente motivo: toda la población que había salido de Egipto, los varones aptos para la guerra, habían muerto en el desierto durante la travesía, después de la salida de Egipto.
5 Now, al the people who came out had been circumcised; but none of those born in the desert, duringthe journey, after leaving Egypt, had been circumcised;	5 Ahora bien, los que habían salido estaban circuncidados; pero los nacidos después de la salida de Egipto, durante la travesía del desierto, no lo estaban.
6 for the Israelites walked the desert for forty years, until the whole nation had died out, that is, the menwho had come out of Egypt of age to bear arms; they had not obeyed the voice of Yahweh, and Yahweh hadsworn to them never to let them see the land which he had sworn to their ancestors that he would give us, a landflowing with milk and honey.	6 Porque los israelitas anduvieron por el desierto durante cuarenta años, o sea, el tiempo suficiente para que desapareciera la nación entera, con los hombres aptos para la guerra que habían salido de Egipto. Como ellos no escucharon la voz del Señor, el Señor juró que no les dejaría ver la tierra que había prometido darnos, de acuerdo con el juramento que hizo a nuestros padres, esa tierra que mana leche y miel.
7 But in place of these he set their sons, and these were the ones whom Joshua circumcised: they wereuncircumcised because they had not been circumcised during the journey.	7 Pero en lugar de ellos suscitó a sus hijos; y fue a estos a los que circuncidó Josué, ya que estaban incircuncisos porque no los habían circuncidado durante la travesía.
8 When the circumcising of the whole nation was finished, they stayed resting in the camp till they werewel again.	8 Cuando todo el pueblo fue circuncidado, se quedaron descansando en el campamento hasta que se curaron.
9 Yahweh then said to Joshua, 'Today I have taken the shame of Egypt away from you.' Hence, the placehas been cal ed Gilgal ever since.	9 Entonces el Señor dijo a Josué: «Hoy he quitado de encima de ustedes el oprobio de Egipto». Y aquel lugar se llamó Guilgal hasta el día de hoy.
10 The Israelites pitched their camp at Gilgal and kept the Passover there on the fourteenth day of themonth, at evening, in the plain of Jericho.	10 Los israelitas acamparon en Guilgal, y el catorce del mes, por la tarde, celebraron la Pascua en la llanura de Jericó.
11 On the very next day after the Passover, they ate what the land produced, unleavened bread androasted ears of corn.	11 Al día siguiente de la Pascua, comieron de los productos del país –pan sin levadura y granos tostados– ese mismo día.
12 The manna stopped the day after they had eaten the produce of the land. The Israelites from that yearonwards ate the produce of Canaan and had no more manna.	12 El maná dejó de caer al día siguiente, cuando comieron los productos del país. Ya no hubo más maná para los israelitas, y aquel año comieron los frutos de la tierra de Canaán.
13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him, grasping anaked sword. Joshua walked towards him and said to him, 'Are you on our side or on that of our enemies?'	13 Mientras Josué estaba cerca de Jericó, alzó los ojos y vio a un hombre que estaba de pie frente a él, con la espada desenvainada en su mano. Josué avanzó hacia él y le preguntó: «¿Eres de los nuestros o de nuestros enemigos?».
14 He replied, 'On neither side. I have come now as the captain of the army of Yahweh.' Joshua fel on hisface to the ground, worshipping him, and said, 'What has my Lord to say to his servant?'	14 El respondió: «No, yo soy el jefe del ejército del Señor y ahora he venido». Josué cayó con el rostro en tierra, se postró y exclamó: «Señor, ¿qué tienes que decir a tu servidor?».
15 The captain of the army of Yahweh answered Joshua, 'Take your sandals off your feet, for the placewhere you are standing is holy.' And Joshua did so.	15 El jefe del ejército del Señor le respondió: «Quítate las sandalias de tus pies, porque el lugar donde estás parado es santo». Y Josué así lo hizo.
