Joshua 5

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 When al the kings of the Amorites living to westward across the Jordan, and al the kings of theCanaanites living on the seaboard, heard that Yahweh had dried up the waters of the Jordan before theIsraelites until they had crossed, their hearts failed and they lost al courage to resist the Israelites.	1 Quando todos os reis dos amorreus, a ocidente do Jordão, e todos os reis dos cananeus, para as bandas do mar, souberam que o Senhor tinha secado as águas do Jordão diante dos israelitas, até que passassem, seu coração desfaleceu e perderam toda a coragem diante dos israelitas.
2 At this time Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again (a secondtime).	2 Então o Senhor disse a Josué: Faze facas de pedras, e circuncida de novo os israelitas.
3 Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites on the Hil of Foreskins.	3 Josué fez as facas de pedra e circuncidou os israelitas na colina de Aralot.
4 The reason why Joshua circumcised them was this. Al the males of the people who had come out ofEgypt of age to bear arms had died in the desert on their journey after leaving Egypt.	4 A causa dessa circuncisão é a seguinte: todos os varões dentre o povo que tinham saído do Egito - todos os homens de guerra - tinham morrido em caminho, no deserto, depois que haviam partido do Egito.
5 Now, al the people who came out had been circumcised; but none of those born in the desert, duringthe journey, after leaving Egypt, had been circumcised;	5 Ora, todos eles tinham sido circuncidados. A multidão, porém, nascida no deserto durante a viagem depois do êxodo, não o tinha sido.
6 for the Israelites walked the desert for forty years, until the whole nation had died out, that is, the menwho had come out of Egypt of age to bear arms; they had not obeyed the voice of Yahweh, and Yahweh hadsworn to them never to let them see the land which he had sworn to their ancestors that he would give us, a landflowing with milk and honey.	6 Os israelitas tinham marchado pelo deserto durante quarenta anos, até o desaparecimento completo dessa massa de homens de guerra escapados do Egito, mas infiéis à voz do Senhor. O Senhor havia-lhes jurado que não veriam a terra prometida a seus pais, terra que mana leite e mel.
7 But in place of these he set their sons, and these were the ones whom Joshua circumcised: they wereuncircumcised because they had not been circumcised during the journey.	7 Seus filhos foram postos em seu lugar. Foi essa a geração que Josué circuncidou. Eles tinham o seu prepúcio, porque não tinham sido circuncidados durante sua viagem.
8 When the circumcising of the whole nation was finished, they stayed resting in the camp till they werewel again.	8 Depois que foram todos circuncidados, permaneceram acampados até sararem.
9 Yahweh then said to Joshua, 'Today I have taken the shame of Egypt away from you.' Hence, the placehas been cal ed Gilgal ever since.	9 O Senhor disse a Josué: Hoje tirei de cima de vós o opróbrio do Egito. E deu-se àquele lugar o nome de Gálgala, nome que subsiste ainda.
10 The Israelites pitched their camp at Gilgal and kept the Passover there on the fourteenth day of themonth, at evening, in the plain of Jericho.	10 Os israelitas acamparam em Gálgala, e celebraram a Páscoa no décimo quarto dia do mês, pela tarde, na planície de Jericó.
11 On the very next day after the Passover, they ate what the land produced, unleavened bread androasted ears of corn.	11 No dia seguinte à Páscoa comeram os produtos da região, pães sem fermento e trigo tostado.
12 The manna stopped the day after they had eaten the produce of the land. The Israelites from that yearonwards ate the produce of Canaan and had no more manna.	12 E o maná cessou {de cair} no dia seguinte àquele em que comeram os produtos da terra. Os israelitas não tiveram mais o maná. Naquele ano alimentaram-se da colheita da terra de Canaã.
13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him, grasping anaked sword. Joshua walked towards him and said to him, 'Are you on our side or on that of our enemies?'	13 Josué encontrava-se nas proximidades de Jericó. Levantando os olhos, viu diante de si um homem de pé, com uma espada desembainhada na mão. Josué foi contra ele: És dos nossos, disse ele, ou dos nossos inimigos?
14 He replied, 'On neither side. I have come now as the captain of the army of Yahweh.' Joshua fel on hisface to the ground, worshipping him, and said, 'What has my Lord to say to his servant?'	14 Ele respondeu: Não; venho como chefe do exército do Senhor. Josué prostrou-se com o rosto por terra, e disse-lhe: Que ordena o meu Senhor a seu servo?
15 The captain of the army of Yahweh answered Joshua, 'Take your sandals off your feet, for the placewhere you are standing is holy.' And Joshua did so.	15 E o chefe do exército do Senhor respondeu: Tira o calçado de teus pés, porque o lugar em que te encontras é santo. Assim fez Josué.
