NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 When the disturbance was over, Paul sent for the disciples and, after speaking words ofencouragement to them, said good -- bye and set out for Macedonia.	1 Depois que cessou o tumulto, Paulo convocou os discípulos. Fez-lhes uma exortação, despediu-se e pôs-se a caminho para ir à Macedônia.
2 On his way through those areas he said many words of encouragement to them and then made hisway into Greece,	2 Percorreu aquela região, exortou os discípulos com muitas palavras e chegou à Grécia,
3 where he spent three months. He was leaving by ship for Syria when a plot organised against him bythe Jews made him decide to go back by way of Macedonia.	3 onde se deteve por três meses. Como os judeus lhe armassem ciladas no momento em que ia embarcar para a Síria, tomou a resolução de voltar pela Macedônia.
4 He was accompanied by Sopater, son of Pyrrhus, who came from Beroea; Aristarchus and Secunduswho came from Thessalonica; Gaius from Derbe, and Timothy, as well as Tychicus and Trophimus who werefrom Asia.	4 Acompanharam-no Sópatro de Beréia, filho de Pirro, e os tessalonicenses Aristarco e Segundo, Gaio de Derbe, Timóteo, Tíquico e Trófimo, da Ásia.
5 They al went on to Troas where they waited for us.	5 Estes foram na frente e esperaram-nos em Trôade.
6 We ourselves left Philippi by ship after the days of Unleavened Bread and joined them five days later atTroas, where we stayed for a week.	6 Nós outros, só depois da festa de Páscoa é que navegamos de Filipos. E, cinco dias depois, fomos ter com eles em Trôade, onde ficamos uma semana.
7 On the first day of the week we met for the breaking of bread. Paul was due to leave the next day, andhe preached a sermon that went on til the middle of the night.	7 No primeiro dia da semana, estando nós reunidos para partir o pão, Paulo, que havia de viajar no dia seguinte, conversava com os discípulos e prolongou a palestra até a meia-noite.
8 A number of lamps were lit in the upstairs room where we were assembled,	8 Havia muitas lâmpadas no quarto, onde nos achávamos reunidos.
9 and as Paul went on and on, a young man called Eutychus who was sitting on the window-sil grewdrowsy and was overcome by sleep and fel to the ground three floors below. He was picked up dead.	9 Acontece que um moço, chamado Êutico, que estava sentado numa janela, foi tomado de profundo sono, enquanto Paulo ia prolongando seu discurso. Vencido pelo sono, caiu do terceiro andar abaixo, e foi levantado morto.
10 Paul went down and stooped to clasp the boy to him, saying, 'There is no need to worry, there is stillife in him.'	10 Paulo desceu, debruçou-se sobre ele, tomou-o nos braços e disse: Não vos perturbeis, porque a sua alma está nele.
11 Then he went back upstairs where he broke the bread and ate and carried on talking til he left atdaybreak.	11 Então subiu, partiu o pão, comeu falou-lhes largamente até o romper do dia. Depois partiu.
12 They took the boy away alive, and were greatly encouraged.	12 Quanto ao moço, levaram-no dali vivo, cheios de consolação.
13 We were now to go on ahead by sea, so we set sail for Assos, where we were to take Paul on board;this was what he had arranged, for he wanted to go overland.	13 Nós nos tínhamos adiantado e navegado para Assos, para ali recebermos Paulo. Ele mesmo assim o havia disposto, preferindo fazer a viagem a pé.
14 When he rejoined us at Assos we took him aboard and went on to Mitylene.	14 Reuniu-se a nós em Assos, e nós o tomamos a bordo e fomos a Mitilene.
15 The next day we sailed from there and arrived opposite Chios. The second day we touched at Samosand, after stopping at Trogyllium, made Miletus the next day.	15 Continuando dali, sempre por mar, chegamos no dia seguinte defronte de Quios. No outro dia, chegamos a Samos, e um dia depois estávamos em Mileto.
16 Paul had decided to pass wide of Ephesus so as to avoid spending time in Asia, since he wasanxious to be in Jerusalem, if possible, for the day of Pentecost.	16 Paulo havia determinado não ir a Éfeso, para não se demorar na Ásia, pois se apressava para celebrar, se possível em Jerusalém, o dia de Pentecostes.
17 From Miletus he sent for the elders of the church of Ephesus.	17 Mas de Mileto mandou a Éfeso chamar os anciãos da igreja.
18 When they arrived he addressed these words to them: 'You know what my way of life has been eversince the first day I set foot among you in Asia,	18 Quando chegaram, e estando todos reunidos, disse-lhes: Vós sabeis de que modo sempre me tenho comportado para convosco, desde o primeiro dia em que entrei na Ásia.
19 how I have served the Lord in al humility, with al the sorrows and trials that came to me through theplots of the Jews.	19 Servi ao Senhor com toda a humildade, com lágrimas e no meio das provações que me sobrevieram pelas ciladas dos judeus.
20 I have not hesitated to do anything that would be helpful to you; I have preached to you and instructedyou both in public and in your homes,	20 Vós sabeis como não tenho negligenciado, como não tenho ocultado coisa alguma que vos podia ser útil. Preguei e vos instruí publicamente e dentro de vossas casas.
21 urging both Jews and Greeks to turn to God and to believe in our Lord Jesus.	21 Preguei aos judeus e aos gentios a conversão a Deus e a fé em nosso Senhor Jesus.
22 'And now you see me on my way to Jerusalem in captivity to the Spirit; I have no idea what wilhappen to me there,	22 Agora, constrangido pelo Espírito, vou a Jerusalém, ignorando a que ali me espera.
23 except that the Holy Spirit, in town after town, has made it clear to me that imprisonment andpersecution await me.	23 Só sei que, de cidade em cidade, o Espírito Santo me assegura que me esperam em Jerusalém cadeias e perseguições.
24 But I do not place any value on my own life, provided that I complete the mission the Lord Jesus gaveme -- to bear witness to the good news of God's grace.	24 Mas nada disso temo, nem faço caso da minha vida, contanto que termine a minha carreira e o ministério da palavra que recebi do Senhor Jesus, para dar testemunho ao Evangelho da graça de Deus.
25 'I now feel sure that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom wil eversee my face again.	25 Sei agora que não tornareis a ver a minha face, todos vós, por entre os quais andei pregando o Reino de Deus.
26 And so on this very day I swear that my conscience is clear as far as all of you are concerned,	26 Portanto, hoje eu protesto diante de vós que sou inocente do sangue de todos,
27 for I have without faltering put before you the whole of God's purpose.	27 porque nada omiti no anúncio que vos fiz dos desígnios de Deus.
28 'Be on your guard for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you theguardians, to feed the Church of God which he bought with the blood of his own Son.	28 Cuidai de vós mesmos e de todo o rebanho sobre o qual o Espírito Santo vos constituiu bispos, para pastorear a Igreja de Deus, que ele adquiriu com o seu próprio sangue.
29 'I know quite wel that when I have gone fierce wolves wil invade you and will have no mercy on theflock.	29 Sei que depois da minha partida se introduzirão entre vós lobos cruéis, que não pouparão o rebanho.
30 Even from your own ranks there wil be men coming forward with a travesty of the truth on their lips toinduce the disciples to fol ow them.	30 Mesmo dentre vós surgirão homens que hão de proferir doutrinas perversas, com o intento de arrebatarem após si os discípulos.
31 So be on your guard, remembering how night and day for three years I never slackened in counsel ingeach one of you with tears.	31 Vigiai! Lembrai-vos, portanto, de que por três anos não cessei, noite e dia, de admoestar, com lágrimas, a cada um de vós.
32 And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace that has power to build you up and togive you your inheritance among all the sanctified.	32 Agora eu vos encomendo a Deus e à palavra da sua graça, àquele que é poderoso para edificar e dar a herança com os santificados.
33 'I have never asked anyone for money or clothes;	33 De ninguém cobicei prata, nem ouro, nem vestes.
34 you know for yourselves that these hands of mine earned enough to meet my needs and those of mycompanions.	34 Vós mesmos sabeis: estas mãos proveram às minhas necessidades e às dos meus companheiros.
35 By every means I have shown you that we must exert ourselves in this way to support the weak,remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, who himself said, "There is more happiness in giving than inreceiving." '	35 Em tudo vos tenho mostrado que assim, trabalhando, convém acudir os fracos e lembrar-se das palavras do Senhor Jesus, porquanto ele mesmo disse: É maior felicidade dar que receber!
36 When he had finished speaking he knelt down with them all and prayed.	36 A essas palavras, ele se pôs de joelhos a orar.
37 By now they were all in tears; they put their arms round Paul's neck and kissed him;	37 Derramaram-se em lágrimas e lançaram-se ao pescoço de Paulo para abraçá-lo,
38 what saddened them most was his saying they would never see his face again. Then they escortedhim to the ship.	38 aflitos, sobretudo pela palavra que tinha dito: Já não vereis a minha face. Em seguida, acompanharam-no até o navio.
