1 When the disturbance was over, Paul sent for the disciples and, after speaking words ofencouragement to them, said good -- bye and set out for Macedonia.	1 Quietato che fu il tumulto, Paolo, chiamati i discepoli, e fatta loro un'esortazione, e detto addio, si partì per andare nella Macedonia.
2 On his way through those areas he said many words of encouragement to them and then made hisway into Greece,	2 E avendo scorsi que' paesi, e fattevi molte istruzioni, passò in Grecia:
3 where he spent three months. He was leaving by ship for Syria when a plot organised against him bythe Jews made him decide to go back by way of Macedonia.	3 Dove avendo passati tre mesi, gli tesero insidie i Giudei nella navigazione, che era per fare verso la Siria: e prese il partito di ritornare per la Macedonia.
4 He was accompanied by Sopater, son of Pyrrhus, who came from Beroea; Aristarchus and Secunduswho came from Thessalonica; Gaius from Derbe, and Timothy, as well as Tychicus and Trophimus who werefrom Asia.	4 E lo accompagnarono Sopatro di Pirro di Berea, e de' Tessalonicesi Aristarco, e Secondo, e Gajo di Derbe, e Timoteo: e gli Asiani, Tichico, e Trofimo.
5 They al went on to Troas where they waited for us.	5 Questi essendo partiti avanti, ci aspettarono a Troade:
6 We ourselves left Philippi by ship after the days of Unleavened Bread and joined them five days later atTroas, where we stayed for a week.	6 Noi poi facemmo vela dopo i giorni degli azzimi da Filippi, e in cinque giorni li raggiungemmo a Troade, dove ci fermammo sette dì.
7 On the first day of the week we met for the breaking of bread. Paul was due to leave the next day, andhe preached a sermon that went on til the middle of the night.	7 E il primo di della settimana essendoci adunati per ispezzare il pane, Paolo, che stava per partire il giorno dipoi, parlava ad essi, e allungò il discorso sino alla mezzanotte.
8 A number of lamps were lit in the upstairs room where we were assembled,	8 Ed eranvi molte lampade nel cenacolo, dove eravamo adunati.
9 and as Paul went on and on, a young man called Eutychus who was sitting on the window-sil grewdrowsy and was overcome by sleep and fel to the ground three floors below. He was picked up dead.	9 E un giovinotto per nome Eutico stando a sedere sopra una finestra immerso in un profondo sonno, mentre Paolo tirava in lungo il sermone, trasportato dal sonno, cadde dal terzo piano a basso, e fu levato di terra morto.
10 Paul went down and stooped to clasp the boy to him, saying, 'There is no need to worry, there is stillife in him.'	10 Ma disceso Paolo, si gittò sopra di lui: e abbracciatolo disse: Non vi affannate: l'anima sua è in lui.
11 Then he went back upstairs where he broke the bread and ate and carried on talking til he left atdaybreak.	11 E risalito che fu, spezzato il pane, e gustatone, e avendo bastevolmente parlato sino all'alba, cosi si partì.
12 They took the boy away alive, and were greatly encouraged.	12 E rimenarono vivo il giovinetto, e furono consolati non poco.
13 We were now to go on ahead by sea, so we set sail for Assos, where we were to take Paul on board;this was what he had arranged, for he wanted to go overland.	13 Ma noi entrati in nave, andammo ad Asson per quindi ricever Paolo: imperocché così aveva ordinato, dovendo egli fare quel viaggio per terra.
14 When he rejoined us at Assos we took him aboard and went on to Mitylene.	14 Venuto che egli fu a noi in Asson, preso lui, andammo a Mitilene.
15 The next day we sailed from there and arrived opposite Chios. The second day we touched at Samosand, after stopping at Trogyllium, made Miletus the next day.	15 E di li fatta vela, il di seguente arrivammo dirimpetto a Chio,e il giorno di poi prendemmo terra a Samo, e nell'altro dì giungemmo a Mileto:
16 Paul had decided to pass wide of Ephesus so as to avoid spending time in Asia, since he wasanxious to be in Jerusalem, if possible, for the day of Pentecost.	16 Imperocché avea stabilito Paolo di trapassare Efeso, per non esser trattenuto poco o assai nell'Asia. Conciossiachè si affrettava, affine di celebrare, se gli fosse stato possibile, il dì della Pentecoste in Gerusalemme.
17 From Miletus he sent for the elders of the church of Ephesus.	17 Ma da Mileto, mandò a Efeso a chiamare i seniori della Chiesa.
18 When they arrived he addressed these words to them: 'You know what my way of life has been eversince the first day I set foot among you in Asia,	18 I quali venuti da lui, e stando insieme, egli disse loro: Voi sapete dal primo giorno, che io entrai nell'Asia, in qual modo io mi sia stato con voi per tutto questo tempo,
19 how I have served the Lord in al humility, with al the sorrows and trials that came to me through theplots of the Jews.	19 Servendo al Signore con tutta umiltà tra le lagrime, e le tentazioni, che mi assalirono per le insidie de' Giudei:
20 I have not hesitated to do anything that would be helpful to you; I have preached to you and instructedyou both in public and in your homes,	20 In qual modo io non mi sia ritirato dall'annunciarvi, e insegnarvi alcuna delle cose utili, sia in pubblico, sia per le case,
21 urging both Jews and Greeks to turn to God and to believe in our Lord Jesus.	21 Inculcando ai Giudei, e ai Gentili la penitenza inverso Dio, e la fede nel Signor nostro Gesù Cristo.
22 'And now you see me on my way to Jerusalem in captivity to the Spirit; I have no idea what wilhappen to me there,	22 Ora poi ecco, che io legato dallo Spirito, vado a Gerusalemme: non sapendo, quali cose ivi mi abbiano ad accadere:
23 except that the Holy Spirit, in town after town, has made it clear to me that imprisonment andpersecution await me.	23 Se non che lo Spirito santo in tutte le città mi assicura, e dice, che catene e tribolazioni mi aspettano a Gerusalemme.
24 But I do not place any value on my own life, provided that I complete the mission the Lord Jesus gaveme -- to bear witness to the good news of God's grace.	24 Ma niuna di queste cose io temo: né tengo la mia vita per più preziosa di me, purché io termini la mia carriera, e il ministero della parola ricevuto dal Signore Gesù, per render testimonianza al Vangelo della grazia di Dio.
25 'I now feel sure that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom wil eversee my face again.	25 E ora ecco, che io so, che non vedrete più la mia faccia voi tutti, tra' quali io sono passato, predicando il regno di Dio.
26 And so on this very day I swear that my conscience is clear as far as all of you are concerned,	26 Per la qual cosa vi prendo a testimoni in questo giorno, come io sono mondo del sangue di tutti.
27 for I have without faltering put before you the whole of God's purpose.	27 Conciossiachè io non mi son ritirato dall'annunziare a voi tutti i consigli di Dio.
28 'Be on your guard for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you theguardians, to feed the Church of God which he bought with the blood of his own Son.	28 Badate a voi stessi, e a tutto il gregge, di cui lo Spirito santo vi ha costituiti Vescovi per pascere la Chiesa di Dio acquistata da lui col proprio sangue.
29 'I know quite wel that when I have gone fierce wolves wil invade you and will have no mercy on theflock.	29 Io so, che dopo la mia partenza entreranno tra voi de' lupi crudeli, che non risparmieranno il gregge.
30 Even from your own ranks there wil be men coming forward with a travesty of the truth on their lips toinduce the disciples to fol ow them.	30 E anche di mezzo a voi stessi si leveranno su degli uomini a insegnare cose perverse, per trarsi dietro de' discepoli.
31 So be on your guard, remembering how night and day for three years I never slackened in counsel ingeach one of you with tears.	31 Per la qual cosa siate vigilanti, rammentandovi, come per tre anni non cessai di, e notte di ammonire con lagrime ciascheduno di voi.
32 And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace that has power to build you up and togive you your inheritance among all the sanctified.	32 E ora vi raccomando a Dio, e alla parola della grazia di lui, il quale è potente per edificare, e dare a voi l'eredità con tutti i santificati.
33 'I have never asked anyone for money or clothes;	33 L'argento, e l'oro, e le vestimenta, di nessuno non ho io desiderato,
34 you know for yourselves that these hands of mine earned enough to meet my needs and those of mycompanions.	34 Conforme voi sapete: conciossiachè al bisogno mio, e di quelli, che sono con me, servirono queste mani.
35 By every means I have shown you that we must exert ourselves in this way to support the weak,remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, who himself said, "There is more happiness in giving than inreceiving." '	35 In tutto vi ho dimostrato, come in tal guisa lavorando, conviene sostenere i deboli, e ricordarsi della parola del Signore Gesù, poiché egli disse: È maggior ventura il dare, che il ricevere.
36 When he had finished speaking he knelt down with them all and prayed.	36 E dette che ebbe tali cose, piegate le ginocchia, orò con essi tutti.
37 By now they were all in tears; they put their arms round Paul's neck and kissed him;	37 E fu grande di tutti il pianto: e gittandosi sul collo di Paolo lo bacciavano,
38 what saddened them most was his saying they would never see his face again. Then they escortedhim to the ship.	38 Afflitti massimamente per quella parola detta da lui, che non erano per vedere mai più la sua faccia. E lo accompagnavano alla nave.
