Acts of the Apostles 20

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 When the disturbance was over, Paul sent for the disciples and, after speaking words ofencouragement to them, said good -- bye and set out for Macedonia.	1 Cuando hubo cesado el tumulto, Pablo mandó llamar a los discípulos, los animó, se despidió de ellos y salió camino de Macedonia.
2 On his way through those areas he said many words of encouragement to them and then made hisway into Greece,	2 Recorrió aquellas regiones y exhortó a los fieles con largos discursos; después marchó a Grecia.
3 where he spent three months. He was leaving by ship for Syria when a plot organised against him bythe Jews made him decide to go back by way of Macedonia.	3 Pasó allí tres meses. Los judíos tramaron una conjuración contra él cuando estaba a punto de embarcarse para Siria; entonces él tomó la determinación de volver por Macedonia.
4 He was accompanied by Sopater, son of Pyrrhus, who came from Beroea; Aristarchus and Secunduswho came from Thessalonica; Gaius from Derbe, and Timothy, as well as Tychicus and Trophimus who werefrom Asia.	4 Le acompañaban Sópatros, hijo de Pirro, de Berea; Aristarco y Segundo, de Tesalónica; Gayo, de Doberes, y Timoteo; Tíquico y Trófimo, de Asia.
5 They al went on to Troas where they waited for us.	5 Estos se adelantaron y nos esperaron en Tróada.
6 We ourselves left Philippi by ship after the days of Unleavened Bread and joined them five days later atTroas, where we stayed for a week.	6 Nosotros, después de los días de los Azimos, nos embarcamos en Filipos y al cabo de cinco días nos unimos a ellos en Tróada donde pasamos siete días.
7 On the first day of the week we met for the breaking of bread. Paul was due to leave the next day, andhe preached a sermon that went on til the middle of the night.	7 El primer día de la semana, estando nosotros reunidos para la fracción del pan, Pablo, que debía marchar al día siguiente, conversaba con ellos y alargó la charla hasta la media noche.
8 A number of lamps were lit in the upstairs room where we were assembled,	8 Había abundantes lámparas en la estancia superior donde estábamos reunidos.
9 and as Paul went on and on, a young man called Eutychus who was sitting on the window-sil grewdrowsy and was overcome by sleep and fel to the ground three floors below. He was picked up dead.	9 Un joven, llamado Eutico, estaba sentado en el borde de la ventana; un profundo sueño le iba dominando a medida que Pablo alargaba su discurso. Vencido por el sueño se cayó del piso tercero abajo. Lo levantaron ya cadáver.
10 Paul went down and stooped to clasp the boy to him, saying, 'There is no need to worry, there is stillife in him.'	10 Bajó Pablo, se echó sobre él y tomándole en sus brazos dijo: «No os inquietéis, pues su alma está en él».
11 Then he went back upstairs where he broke the bread and ate and carried on talking til he left atdaybreak.	11 Subió luego; partió el pan y comió; después platicó largo tiempo, hasta el amanecer. Entonces se marchó.
12 They took the boy away alive, and were greatly encouraged.	12 Trajeron al muchacho vivo y se consolaron no poco.
13 We were now to go on ahead by sea, so we set sail for Assos, where we were to take Paul on board;this was what he had arranged, for he wanted to go overland.	13 Nosotros nos adelantamos a tomar la nave y partimos hacia Asso, donde habíamos de recoger a Pablo; así lo había él determinado; él iría por tierra.
14 When he rejoined us at Assos we took him aboard and went on to Mitylene.	14 Cuando nos alcanzó en Asso, le tomamos a bordo y llegamos a Mitilene.
15 The next day we sailed from there and arrived opposite Chios. The second day we touched at Samosand, after stopping at Trogyllium, made Miletus the next day.	15 Al día siguiente nos hicimos a la mar y llegamos a la altura de Quíos; al otro día atracamos en Samos y, después de hacer escala en Trogilión, llegamos al día siguiente a Mileto.
16 Paul had decided to pass wide of Ephesus so as to avoid spending time in Asia, since he wasanxious to be in Jerusalem, if possible, for the day of Pentecost.	16 Pablo había resuelto pasar de largo por Efeso, para no perder tiempo en Asia. Se daba prisa, porque quería estar, si le era posible, el día de Pentecostés en Jerusalén.
17 From Miletus he sent for the elders of the church of Ephesus.	17 Desde Mileto envió a llamar a los presbíteros de la Iglesia de Efeso.
18 When they arrived he addressed these words to them: 'You know what my way of life has been eversince the first day I set foot among you in Asia,	18 Cuando llegaron donde él, les dijo: «Vosotros sabéis cómo me comporté siempre con vosotros, desde el primer día que entré en Asia,
19 how I have served the Lord in al humility, with al the sorrows and trials that came to me through theplots of the Jews.	19 sirviendo al Señor con toda humildad y lágrimas y con las pruebas que me vinieron por las asechanzas de los judíos;
20 I have not hesitated to do anything that would be helpful to you; I have preached to you and instructedyou both in public and in your homes,	20 cómo no me acobardé cuando en algo podía seros útil; os predicaba y enseñaba en público y por las casas,
21 urging both Jews and Greeks to turn to God and to believe in our Lord Jesus.	21 dando testimonio tanto a judíos como a griegos para que se convirtieran a Dios y creyeran en nuestro Señor Jesús.
22 'And now you see me on my way to Jerusalem in captivity to the Spirit; I have no idea what wilhappen to me there,	22 «Mirad que ahora yo, encadenado en el espíritu, me dirijo a Jerusalén, sin saber lo que allí me sucederá;
23 except that the Holy Spirit, in town after town, has made it clear to me that imprisonment andpersecution await me.	23 solamente sé que en cada ciudad el Espíritu Santo me testifica que me aguardan prisiones y tribulaciones.
24 But I do not place any value on my own life, provided that I complete the mission the Lord Jesus gaveme -- to bear witness to the good news of God's grace.	24 Pero yo no considero mi vida digna de estima, con tal que termine mi carrera y cumpla el ministerio que he recibido del Señor Jesús, de dar testimonio del Evangelio de la gracia de Dios.
25 'I now feel sure that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom wil eversee my face again.	25 «Y ahora yo sé que ya no volveréis a ver mi rostro ninguno de vosotros, entre quienes pasé predicando el Reino.
26 And so on this very day I swear that my conscience is clear as far as all of you are concerned,	26 Por esto os testifico en el día de hoy que yo estoy limpio de la sangre de todos,
27 for I have without faltering put before you the whole of God's purpose.	27 pues no me acobardé de anunciaros todo el designio de Dios.
28 'Be on your guard for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you theguardians, to feed the Church of God which he bought with the blood of his own Son.	28 «Tened cuidado de vosotros y de toda la grey, en medio de la cual os ha puesto el Espíritu Santo como vigilantes para pastorear la Iglesia de Dios, que él se adquirió con la sangre de su propio hijo.
29 'I know quite wel that when I have gone fierce wolves wil invade you and will have no mercy on theflock.	29 «Yo sé que, después de mi partida, se introducirán entre vosotros lobos crueles que no perdonarán al rebaño;
30 Even from your own ranks there wil be men coming forward with a travesty of the truth on their lips toinduce the disciples to fol ow them.	30 y también que de entre vosotros mismos se levantarán hombres que hablarán cosas perversas, para arrastrar a los discípulos detrás de sí.
31 So be on your guard, remembering how night and day for three years I never slackened in counsel ingeach one of you with tears.	31 Por tanto, vigilad y acordaos que durante tres años no he cesado de amonestaros día y noche con lágrimas a cada uno de vosotros.
32 And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace that has power to build you up and togive you your inheritance among all the sanctified.	32 «Ahora os encomiendo a Dios y a la Palabra de su gracia, que tiene poder para construir el edificio y daros la herencia con todos los santificados.
33 'I have never asked anyone for money or clothes;	33 «Yo de nadie codicié plata, oro o vestidos.
34 you know for yourselves that these hands of mine earned enough to meet my needs and those of mycompanions.	34 Vosotros sabéis que estas manos proveyeron a mis necesidades y a las de mis compañeros.
35 By every means I have shown you that we must exert ourselves in this way to support the weak,remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, who himself said, "There is more happiness in giving than inreceiving." '	35 En todo os he enseñado que es así, trabajando, como se debe socorrer a los débiles y que hay que tener presentes las palabras del Señor Jesús, que dijo: Mayor felicidad hay en dar que en recibir».
36 When he had finished speaking he knelt down with them all and prayed.	36 Dicho esto se puso de rodillas y oro con todos ellos.
37 By now they were all in tears; they put their arms round Paul's neck and kissed him;	37 Rompieron entonces todos a llorar y arrojándose al cuello de Pablo, le besaban,
38 what saddened them most was his saying they would never see his face again. Then they escortedhim to the ship.	38 afligidos sobre todo por lo que había dicho: que ya no volverían a ver su rostro. Y fueron acompañandole hasta la nave.
