1 When the disturbance was over, Paul sent for the disciples and, after speaking words ofencouragement to them, said good -- bye and set out for Macedonia.	1 - Cessato che fu il tumulto, Paolo fece chiamare i discepoli, e, dopo averli esortati, disse loro addio e si partì per andare in Macedonia.
2 On his way through those areas he said many words of encouragement to them and then made hisway into Greece,	2 Percorse que' paesi, rivolgendo a' fedeli continue parole di conforto; poi venne in Grecia,
3 where he spent three months. He was leaving by ship for Syria when a plot organised against him bythe Jews made him decide to go back by way of Macedonia.	3 dove si fermò tre mesi. Pensava d'imbarcarsi per la Siria quando udì che i Giudei gli avean tese delle insidie; allora decise di tornare per la Macedonia.
4 He was accompanied by Sopater, son of Pyrrhus, who came from Beroea; Aristarchus and Secunduswho came from Thessalonica; Gaius from Derbe, and Timothy, as well as Tychicus and Trophimus who werefrom Asia.	4 Lo accompagnavano Sòpatro, di Pirro di Berea, Aristarco e Secondo di Tessalonica, Gaio di Derbe e Timoteo, e gli Asiani Tichico e Trofimo.
5 They al went on to Troas where they waited for us.	5 Questi, andati innanzi, ci aspettarono a Troade;
6 We ourselves left Philippi by ship after the days of Unleavened Bread and joined them five days later atTroas, where we stayed for a week.	6 e noi, dopo i giorni degli Azzimi, partimmo da Filippi, e in cinque giorni li raggiungemmo a Troade, dove ci fermammo sette giorni.
7 On the first day of the week we met for the breaking of bread. Paul was due to leave the next day, andhe preached a sermon that went on til the middle of the night.	7 E nel primo giorno della settimana, essendoci radunati per spezzare il pane, Paolo, dovendo partire il giorno di poi, s'intrattenne co' discepoli e prolungò il discorso fino a mezzanotte.
8 A number of lamps were lit in the upstairs room where we were assembled,	8 Or nella sala dov'erano radunati, c'eran molte lampade accese;
9 and as Paul went on and on, a young man called Eutychus who was sitting on the window-sil grewdrowsy and was overcome by sleep and fel to the ground three floors below. He was picked up dead.	9 e un giovinetto, per nome Eutico, postosi a sedere sulla finestra, mentre Paolo tirava il suo dire in lungo, fu preso da forte sonnolenza, e, vinto dal sonno, cadde giù dal terzo piano e fu levato da terra morto.
10 Paul went down and stooped to clasp the boy to him, saying, 'There is no need to worry, there is stillife in him.'	10 E Paolo, sceso a basso, si gettò su lui, e, abbracciatolo, disse: «Non v'affannate; l'anima sua è in lui!».
11 Then he went back upstairs where he broke the bread and ate and carried on talking til he left atdaybreak.	11 Poi, risalito che fu, spezzò il pane e prese cibo; e così trattenendosi a parlare, quando fu all'alba partì.
12 They took the boy away alive, and were greatly encouraged.	12 E il giovinetto ricondussero vivo, e tutti ne furono assai consolati.
13 We were now to go on ahead by sea, so we set sail for Assos, where we were to take Paul on board;this was what he had arranged, for he wanted to go overland.	13 Noi intanto, entrati in nave, facemmo vela per Asson, a fin di riunirci con Paolo; poichè così aveva determinato, volendo egli fare quel viaggio per terra.
14 When he rejoined us at Assos we took him aboard and went on to Mitylene.	14 Quando ci ebbe raggiunti ad Asson, lo prendemmo con noi e venimmo a Mitilene.
15 The next day we sailed from there and arrived opposite Chios. The second day we touched at Samosand, after stopping at Trogyllium, made Miletus the next day.	15 Di lì fatta vela, il giorno seguente arrivammo all'altezza di Chio, e quello di poi prendemmo terra a Samo, e nell'altro giorno eravamo a Mileto;
16 Paul had decided to pass wide of Ephesus so as to avoid spending time in Asia, since he wasanxious to be in Jerusalem, if possible, for the day of Pentecost.	16 poichè Paolo aveva stabilito di passar oltre Efeso, a evitare d'esser trattenuto in Asia: gli premeva, se fosse possibile, di trovarsi a Gerusalemme per il giorno della Pentecoste.
17 From Miletus he sent for the elders of the church of Ephesus.	17 E da Mileto mandò a chiamare gli anziani della chiesa d'Efeso.
18 When they arrived he addressed these words to them: 'You know what my way of life has been eversince the first day I set foot among you in Asia,	18 I quali, venuti, si raccolsero intorno a lui, ed egli disse: «Voi sapete come, dal primo giorno che venni in Asia, io mi sia sempre diportato con voi,
19 how I have served the Lord in al humility, with al the sorrows and trials that came to me through theplots of the Jews.	19 servendo il Signore con tutta umiltà, con lacrime, in mezzo alle prove cadutemi addosso per le insidie de' Giudei;
20 I have not hesitated to do anything that would be helpful to you; I have preached to you and instructedyou both in public and in your homes,	20 sapete come non abbia trascurato d'annunziarvi nulla di ciò che è utile, e d'istruirvi, in pubblico e per le case,
21 urging both Jews and Greeks to turn to God and to believe in our Lord Jesus.	21 raccomandando a Giudei e Greci la penitenza dinanzi a Dio e a credere nel Signor nostro Gesù Cristo.
22 'And now you see me on my way to Jerusalem in captivity to the Spirit; I have no idea what wilhappen to me there,	22 Ed ora, ecco, io, costretto dallo spirito, vado a Gerusalemme, senz'altro conoscere di quel che mi stia per accadere,
23 except that the Holy Spirit, in town after town, has made it clear to me that imprisonment andpersecution await me.	23 se non questo: che lo Spirito Santo per ogni città mi avverte che a Gerusalemme m'aspettano catene e tribolazioni.
24 But I do not place any value on my own life, provided that I complete the mission the Lord Jesus gaveme -- to bear witness to the good news of God's grace.	24 Ma io per nessuna di queste cose temo; nè tengo più preziosa di me la mia vita; purchè termini il mio corso e compia il ministero ricevuto dal Signore Gesù, che è di render testimonianza al Vangelo della grazia di Dio.
25 'I now feel sure that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom wil eversee my face again.	25 E ora, ecco, io so che voi tutti, tra' quali son andato e venuto predicando il regno di Dio non vedrete più la mia faccia.
26 And so on this very day I swear that my conscience is clear as far as all of you are concerned,	26 Perciò vi prendo quest'oggi a testimoni che io non son responsabile del sangue d'alcuno di voi;
27 for I have without faltering put before you the whole of God's purpose.	27 poichè non ho trascurato d'annunziarvi tutto il consiglio di Dio.
28 'Be on your guard for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you theguardians, to feed the Church of God which he bought with the blood of his own Son.	28 Badate dunque a voi stessi, badate al gregge di cui lo Spirito Santo vi ha costituiti vescovi per pascere la Chiesa di Dio, acquistata da lui col proprio sangue.
29 'I know quite wel that when I have gone fierce wolves wil invade you and will have no mercy on theflock.	29 So infatti che, dopo la mia partenza, entreranno tra voi de' lupi rapaci; i quali non risparmieranno il gregge;
30 Even from your own ranks there wil be men coming forward with a travesty of the truth on their lips toinduce the disciples to fol ow them.	30 e anche di mezzo a voi si leveranno su degli uomini a insegnar cose perverse, per strascinarsi dietro i discepoli.
31 So be on your guard, remembering how night and day for three years I never slackened in counsel ingeach one of you with tears.	31 Perciò vegliate, ricordandovi che per lo spazio di tre anni, giorno e notte, non mi son mai stancato d'ammonir con lacrime ciascun di voi.
32 And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace that has power to build you up and togive you your inheritance among all the sanctified.	32 E ora vi raccomando a Dio e alla virtù della grazia di Lui, ch'è potente a edificare e a darvi l'eredità tra' santi suoi.
33 'I have never asked anyone for money or clothes;	33 Io non ho bramato nè l'argento, nè l'oro, nè il vestito d'alcuno;
34 you know for yourselves that these hands of mine earned enough to meet my needs and those of mycompanions.	34 anzi, voi medesimi siete testimoni che queste mani han provveduto ai bisogni miei e di coloro ch'eran meco;
35 By every means I have shown you that we must exert ourselves in this way to support the weak,remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, who himself said, "There is more happiness in giving than inreceiving." '	35 e ho fatto di tutto per mostrarvi, lavorando così, che s'ha da aver cura dei bisognosi, rammentandosi le parole del Signore Gesù, il quale disse: - È meglio dare, che ricevere -».
36 When he had finished speaking he knelt down with them all and prayed.	36 E com'ebbe dette queste cose, si pose in ginocchio, e pregò con tutti loro;
37 By now they were all in tears; they put their arms round Paul's neck and kissed him;	37 e il pianto di tutti fu grande; tutti poi, gettatisi al collo di Paolo, lo baciavano,
38 what saddened them most was his saying they would never see his face again. Then they escortedhim to the ship.	38 addolorati sopra tutto per quella parola ch'egli aveva detta loro, che non vedrebbero più la sua faccia. E lo accompagnarono fino alla nave.
