Deuteronomy 3

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 'We then turned on Bashan and invaded that. And Og king of Bashan marched out against us, he andal his people, to give battle at Edrei.	1 Poi noi ci mettemmo in cammino, e salimmo traendo verso Basan; e Og, re di Basan, con tutta la sua gente, uscì in battaglia contro a noi, in Edrei.
2 Yahweh said to me, "Do not be afraid of him, for I have put him at your mercy, him, al his people andhis country. You will treat him as you treated Sihon king of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon."	2 E il Signore mi disse: Non temerlo; perciocchè io ti do nelle mani lui, e tutta la sua gente, e il suo paese: e fagli come tu facesti a Sihon, re degli Amorrei, che abitava in Hesbon.
3 So, Yahweh our God put Og king of Bashan at our mercy too, with al his people. We beat him sothoroughly that nobody was left.	3 E il Signore Iddio nostro ci diede nelle mani eziandio Og, re di Basan, e tutta la sua gente; e noi lo percotemmo, per maniera che non gli lasciammo alcuno in vita.
4 That was when we captured al his towns; there was not a town of theirs we did not take: sixty towns,the whole confederation of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan,	4 E in quel tempo pigliammo tutte le sue città; e non vi fu città alcuna che noi non prendessimo loro; noi prendemmo sessanta città, tutta la contrada di Argob, ch’era il regno di Og, in Basan.
5 all of them fortresses defended by high wal s and fortified with gates and bars, not to mention thePerizzite towns, which were very numerous.	5 Tutte quelle città erano fortificate con alte mura, con porte e sbarre; oltre alle terre non murate, ch’erano in grandissimo numero.
6 We laid them under the curse of destruction as we had done Sihon king of Heshbon, laying al thesetowns under the curse of destruction: men, women and children-	6 E noi le distruggemmo al modo dell’interdetto, come avevamo fatto a Sihon, re di Hesbon; distruggendo al modo dell’interdetto, in tutte le città, gli uomini, le donne, e i fanciulli.
7 but we seized the livestock and spoils of the towns as booty for ourselves.	7 Ma predammo per noi tutto il bestiame, e le spoglie delle città.
8 'Thus, by then we had taken the country of the two Amorite kings beyond the Jordan, stretching fromthe Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon	8 Così pigliammo in quel tempo a’ due re degli Amorrei, ch’erano di qua dal Giordano, questo paese, dal torrente di Arnon, fino al monte di Hermon;
9 (the Sidonians call Hermon 'Sirion' and the Amorites cal it 'Senir'):	9 i Sidonii chiamano Hermon Sirion, ma gli Amorrei lo chiamano Senir
10 al the towns of the tableland, all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, the capital citiesof Og in Bashan.	10 tutte le città della pianura, e tutto Galaad, e tutto Basan, fino a Salca, ed Edrei, le città del regno di Og, in Basan.
11 (Og king of Bashan was the last survivor of the Rephaim; his bed was the iron bed that can be seen atRabbah-of-the-Ammonites, nine cubits long and four wide, according to the human cubit.)	11 Conciossiachè Og, re di Basan, fosse rimasto solo delle reliquie de’ giganti; ecco, la sua lettiera, che è una lettiera di ferro, non è ella in Rabbat de’ figliuoli di Ammon? la cui lunghezza è di nove cubiti, e la larghezza di quattro cubiti, a cubito d’uomo
12 'Then we took possession of this country, from Aroer on the Wadi Arnon. To the Reubenites andGadites I gave half the highlands of Gilead with its towns.	12 E in quel tempo noi prendemmo possessione di questo paese; io diedi a’ Gaditi, e a’ Rubeniti, ciò che è da Aroer, che è in sul torrente di Arnon, e la metà del monte di Galaad, e le sue città.
13 To the half-tribe of Manasseh I gave the rest of Gilead and the whole of Bashan, Og's kingdom. (Thewhole confederation of Argob and the whole of Bashan is cal ed the country of the Rephaim.	13 Diedi ancora alla metà della tribù di Manasse il rimanente di Galaad, e tutto Basan, ch’era il regno di Og. Tutta la contrada di Argob, per tutto Basan, si chiamava il paese de’ giganti.
14 Since Jair son of Manasseh occupied the whole confederation of Argob as far as the frontiers of theGeshurites and Maacathites, after him Bashan is called the Encampments of Jair even today.)	14 Iair, figliuolo di Manasse, prese tutta la contrada di Argob, fino a’ confini de’ Ghesuriti e de’ Maacatiti; e chiamò que’ luoghi del suo nome: Basan delle villate di Iair; il quale nome dura infino a questo giorno.
15 To Machir I gave Gilead.	15 E a Machir diedi Galaad.
16 To the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the region from Gilead to the Wadi Arnon, the middle of theravine marking the boundary, and up as far as the Jabbok, the ravine marking the frontier of the Ammonites.	16 Ma a’ Rubeniti e a’ Gaditi diedi da Galaad fino al torrente di Arnon, nel mezzo del torrente, e i confini; e fino al torrente di Iabboc, confine de’ figliuoli di Ammon;
17 The Arabah and the Jordan serve as frontiers from Chinnereth down to the Sea of the Arabah (theSalt Sea), at the foot of the slopes of Pisgah on the east.	17 e la campagna, e il Giordano, e i confini, da Chinneret, fino al mare della pianura, che è il mar salato, sotto Asdot-Pisga, verso Oriente.
18 'I then gave you this order: "Yahweh your God has given you this country to be yours. Armed, everyone of you fit to fight must go ahead of your brothers the Israelites.	18 E in quel tempo io vi comandai, e dissi: Il Signore Iddio vostro vi ha dato questo paese, per possederlo; tutti gli uomini di valore d’infra voi passino in arme, davanti a’ figliuoli d’Israele, vostri fratelli.
19 Only your wives, your children and your flocks (you have many flocks, I know) must stay behind in thetowns which I have given you,	19 Sol restino nelle vostre città, ch’io vi ho date, le vostre mogli, e i vostri piccoli figliuoli, e il vostro bestiame, del quale io so che avete assai;
20 until Yahweh has brought your brothers to rest as he has already brought you, and they too possessthe territory which Yahweh your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan; after that, you can go home,each to the domain I have given you."	20 finchè il Signore abbia dato riposo a’ vostri fratelli, siccome ha dato a voi, e che abbian presa anch’essi possessione del paese che il Signore Iddio vostro dà loro, di là dal Giordano; poi ve ne ritornerete, ciascuno alla sua possessione, la quale io vi ho data
21 I then gave Joshua this order, "You can see for yourself everything that Yahweh our God has done tothese two kings; Yahweh will do the same to al the kingdoms through which you pass.	21 In quel tempo ancora io comandai, e dissi a Giosuè: I tuoi occhi hanno veduto tutto ciò che il Signore Iddio vostro ha fatto a questi due re; così farà il Signore a tutti i regni, dove tu passerai.
22 Do not be afraid of them: Yahweh your God himself is fighting for you."	22 Non temete di loro; perciocchè il Signore Iddio vostro è quel che combatte per voi.
23 'I then pleaded with Yahweh.	23 In quel tempo ancora io supplicai al Signore, dicendo:
24 "My Lord Yahweh," I said, "now that you have begun to reveal your greatness and your power to yourservant with works and mighty deeds no God in heaven or on earth can rival,	24 Signore Iddio, tu hai cominciato a mostrare al tuo servitore la tua grandezza, e la tua potente mano; perciocchè, chi è quel Dio nel cielo, o nella terra, che possa fare secondo le tue opere, e secondo le tue potenze?
25 may I not go across and see this fine country on the other side of the Jordan, that fine upland countryand the Lebanon?"	25 Deh! permetti ch’io passi, e vegga quel buon paese, che è di là dal Giordano, que’ buoni monti, e il Libano.
26 But, because of you, Yahweh was angry with me and would not listen. "Enough!" he said, "Do notmention this subject again!	26 Ma il Signore si era gravemente adirato contro a me, per cagion vostra, e però non mi esaudì. E il Signore mi disse: Bastiti; non parlarmi più di questa cosa.
27 Climb to the top of Pisgah; turn your eyes to the west, the north, the south, the east. Look wel , foracross this Jordan you shall not go.	27 Sali in su la sommità di Pisga, e alza gli occhi verso Occidente, verso Settentrione, verso Mezzodì, e verso Oriente, e riguarda quel paese con gli occhi tuoi; perciocchè tu non passerai questo Giordano.
28 Give Joshua your instructions; encourage him, strengthen him; for he wil be the one to cross at thehead of this people; he wil be the one to bring them into possession of the country which you will see."	28 E da’ i tuoi ordini a Giosuè, e confortalo, e inanimalo; conciossiachè esso abbia da passar davanti a questo popolo, e da metterlo in possessione del paese che tu vedrai.
29 'We then stayed in the val ey, close to Beth-Peor.'	29 E noi ci fermammo in questa valle, dirimpetto a Bet-peor
