1 'We then turned on Bashan and invaded that. And Og king of Bashan marched out against us, he andal his people, to give battle at Edrei.	1 Per la qual cosa volgendoci (in altra parte) salimmo per la strada, che va a Basan: e Og re di Basan ci si fé incontro con tutta la sua gente per venire a battaglia in Edrai.
2 Yahweh said to me, "Do not be afraid of him, for I have put him at your mercy, him, al his people andhis country. You will treat him as you treated Sihon king of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon."	2 E il Signore disse a me: Nol temere: perocché egli è stato dato in tuo potere con tutta la sua gente, e colla sua terra: e farai a lui quel che facesti a Sehon re degli Amorrhei, che abitava in Hesebon.
3 So, Yahweh our God put Og king of Bashan at our mercy too, with al his people. We beat him sothoroughly that nobody was left.	3 Diede adunque il Signore Dio nostro in nostro potere anche Og re di Basan, e tutto il suo popolo: e noi gli uccidemmo dal primo all’ultimo,
4 That was when we captured al his towns; there was not a town of theirs we did not take: sixty towns,the whole confederation of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan,	4 Devastando a un tempo tutte le sue città: non vi fu città che da noi si salvasse: prendemmo sessanta città, e tutto il paese di Argob regno di Og, signore di Basan.
5 all of them fortresses defended by high wal s and fortified with gates and bars, not to mention thePerizzite towns, which were very numerous.	5 Tutte le città eran difese da mura altissime con porte, e contrafforti, oltre gli innumerabili castelli, che eran senza muraglie.
6 We laid them under the curse of destruction as we had done Sihon king of Heshbon, laying al thesetowns under the curse of destruction: men, women and children-	6 E sterminammo quella gente, come avevamo fatto di Sehon re di Hesebon, sterminando in ogni città uomini e donne e fanciulli,
7 but we seized the livestock and spoils of the towns as booty for ourselves.	7 E menando via i bestiami, e le spoglie delle città.
8 'Thus, by then we had taken the country of the two Amorite kings beyond the Jordan, stretching fromthe Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon	8 E occupammo allora la terra posseduta da' due re Amorrhei, che erano di qua dal Giordano, dal torrente Arnon sino al monte Hermon,
9 (the Sidonians call Hermon 'Sirion' and the Amorites cal it 'Senir'):	9 A cui i Sidoni danno il nome di Sarion, e gli Amorrhei di Sanir:
10 al the towns of the tableland, all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, the capital citiesof Og in Bashan.	10 E prendemmo tutte le città poste in pianura, e tutta la terra di Galaad, e di Basan fino a Selcha, ed Edrai, città del regno di Og in Basan.
11 (Og king of Bashan was the last survivor of the Rephaim; his bed was the iron bed that can be seen atRabbah-of-the-Ammonites, nine cubits long and four wide, according to the human cubit.)	11 Perocché Og re di Basan era rimaso egli il solo della stirpe de' giganti. Si mostra il suo letto di ferro, che è in Rabbath città de' figliuoli di Ammon, che ha nove cubiti di lunghezza, e quattro di larghezza, secondo la misura del cubito ordinario di un uomo.
12 'Then we took possession of this country, from Aroer on the Wadi Arnon. To the Reubenites andGadites I gave half the highlands of Gilead with its towns.	12 E noi allora occupammo la terra da Aroer, che è sulla ripa del torrente Arnon, sino al mezzo della montagna di Galaad: e ne diedi le città a Ruben, e a Gad.
13 To the half-tribe of Manasseh I gave the rest of Gilead and the whole of Bashan, Og's kingdom. (Thewhole confederation of Argob and the whole of Bashan is cal ed the country of the Rephaim.	13 E il rimanente del paese di Galaad, e tutto quello di Basan del regno di Og, lo assegnai a mezza la tribù di Manasse, con tutta la regione di Argob: tutto il Basan è chiamato Terra dei Giganti.
14 Since Jair son of Manasseh occupied the whole confederation of Argob as far as the frontiers of theGeshurites and Maacathites, after him Bashan is called the Encampments of Jair even today.)	14 Jair figliuolo di Manasse entrò in possesso di tutto il paese di Argob sino ai confini di Gessuri e di Machati. E i villaggi di Basan chiamò col suo nome Havoth-Jair, cioè Villaggi di Jair, fino al dì d'oggi.
15 To Machir I gave Gilead.	15 Parimente a Machir io diedi Galaad.
16 To the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the region from Gilead to the Wadi Arnon, the middle of theravine marking the boundary, and up as far as the Jabbok, the ravine marking the frontier of the Ammonites.	16 E alle tribù di Ruben e di Gad diedi del paese di Galaad sino al torrente Arnon la metà del torrente, e il terreno adiacente sino al torrente Jaboc, che confina coi figliuoli di Ammon:
17 The Arabah and the Jordan serve as frontiers from Chinnereth down to the Sea of the Arabah (theSalt Sea), at the foot of the slopes of Pisgah on the east.	17 E la pianura del deserto intorno al Giordano, e il terreno, che confina con Cenereth sino al mar del deserto, che è grandemente salato, e sino alle falde del monte Phasga verso l'oriente.
18 'I then gave you this order: "Yahweh your God has given you this country to be yours. Armed, everyone of you fit to fight must go ahead of your brothers the Israelites.	18 E io allora ordinai, e dissi loro: II Signore Dio vostro dà a voi questa terra in eredità: voi tutti uomini robusti andate armati innanzi a' vostri fratelli figliuoli d'Israele,
19 Only your wives, your children and your flocks (you have many flocks, I know) must stay behind in thetowns which I have given you,	19 Senza le mogli, e i fanciulli, e i bestiami. Perocché io so, che avete molti greggi, e questi dovran rimanere nelle città, che io vi ho date,
20 until Yahweh has brought your brothers to rest as he has already brought you, and they too possessthe territory which Yahweh your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan; after that, you can go home,each to the domain I have given you."	20 Sino a tanto che il Signore dia riposo a’ vostri fratelli, come lo ho dato a voi, ed eglino pure sien padroni della terra, che egli ad essi darà oltre il Giordano: allora ognuno di voi tornerà nelle sue possessioni, che io vi ho date.
21 I then gave Joshua this order, "You can see for yourself everything that Yahweh our God has done tothese two kings; Yahweh will do the same to al the kingdoms through which you pass.	21 E allora eziandio avvertii Giosuè, dicendogli: Gli occhi tuoi han veduto quel che ha fatto il Signore Dio vostro a que' due regi; lo stesso farà egli a tutti i reami, ne' quali tu entrerai.
22 Do not be afraid of them: Yahweh your God himself is fighting for you."	22 Non li temere: perocché il Signore Dio vostro combatterà per voi.
23 'I then pleaded with Yahweh.	23 E io pregai allora il Signore, e dissi:
24 "My Lord Yahweh," I said, "now that you have begun to reveal your greatness and your power to yourservant with works and mighty deeds no God in heaven or on earth can rival,	24 Signore Dio, tu hai principiato a far conoscere al tuo servo la tua grandezza, e la possanza della tua mano: conciossiaché non vi ha altro Dio, o in cielo, o in terra, che possa fare quel che fai tu, e paragonarsi a te in fortezza.
25 may I not go across and see this fine country on the other side of the Jordan, that fine upland countryand the Lebanon?"	25 Io adunque passerò a vedere quella terra sì buona di là dal Giordano, e quel monte egregio, e il Libano.
26 But, because of you, Yahweh was angry with me and would not listen. "Enough!" he said, "Do notmention this subject again!	26 E il Signore si adirò meco a causa di voi, e non mi esaudì, e mi disse: Ti basti questo; non parlarmi mai più di tal cosa.
27 Climb to the top of Pisgah; turn your eyes to the west, the north, the south, the east. Look wel , foracross this Jordan you shall not go.	27 Monta sulla vetta del Phasga, e gira l’occhio ad occidente, e a settentrione, a mezzodì, e ad oriente, e osserva: perocché tu non passerai quel Giordano.
28 Give Joshua your instructions; encourage him, strengthen him; for he wil be the one to cross at thehead of this people; he wil be the one to bring them into possession of the country which you will see."	28 Da' i tuoi documenti a Giosuè, e fortificalo, e ispira a lui coraggio: perocché egli andrà innanzi a questo popolo, e gli distribuirà la terra, cui tu vedrai.
29 'We then stayed in the val ey, close to Beth-Peor.'	29 E noi ci fermammo nella valle dirimpetto al tempio di Phogor.
