Deuteronomy 3

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 'We then turned on Bashan and invaded that. And Og king of Bashan marched out against us, he andal his people, to give battle at Edrei.	1 Poi ci voltammo e salimmo per la strada di Basan; e Og re di Basan con tutta la sua gente ci uscì contro per darci battaglia in Edrai.
2 Yahweh said to me, "Do not be afraid of him, for I have put him at your mercy, him, al his people andhis country. You will treat him as you treated Sihon king of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon."	2 Ma il Signore mi disse: Non ne aver paura, chè t'ho dato nelle mani lui, la sua gente e la sua terra; farai a lui come facesti a Sehon re degli Amorrei, che abitava in Esebon.
3 So, Yahweh our God put Og king of Bashan at our mercy too, with al his people. We beat him sothoroughly that nobody was left.	3 Così il Signore nostro Dio diede nelle nostre mani anche Og re di Basan con tutto il suo popolo. Li percotemmo fino allo sterminio,
4 That was when we captured al his towns; there was not a town of theirs we did not take: sixty towns,the whole confederation of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan,	4 distruggendo nello stesso tempo tutte le sue città, senza che ce ne sfuggisse una: sessanta città e tutto il paese di Argob appartenente al regno di Og, nel Basan;
5 all of them fortresses defended by high wal s and fortified with gates and bars, not to mention thePerizzite towns, which were very numerous.	5 tutte le città fortificate con mura altissime, con porte e sbarre, oltre gl'innumerevoli borghi senza mura.
6 We laid them under the curse of destruction as we had done Sihon king of Heshbon, laying al thesetowns under the curse of destruction: men, women and children-	6 Sterminammo quella gente, come avevamo fatto a Sehon re di Esebon; distruggemmo città, uomini, donne e fanciulli;
7 but we seized the livestock and spoils of the towns as booty for ourselves.	7 ma predammo i bestiami e le spoglie delle città.
8 'Thus, by then we had taken the country of the two Amorite kings beyond the Jordan, stretching fromthe Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon	8 E prendemmo allora la terra dei due re Àmorrei che erano al di là del Giordano, dal torrente Arnon fino al monte Ermon,
9 (the Sidonians call Hermon 'Sirion' and the Amorites cal it 'Senir'):	9 che i Sidoni chiamano Sarion, e gli Amorrei Sanir;
10 al the towns of the tableland, all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, the capital citiesof Og in Bashan.	10 tutte le città poste nella pianura, e tutta la terra di Galaad e di Basan fino a Selea e ad Edrai, città del regno di Og nel Basan,
11 (Og king of Bashan was the last survivor of the Rephaim; his bed was the iron bed that can be seen atRabbah-of-the-Ammonites, nine cubits long and four wide, according to the human cubit.)	11 Or Og re di Basan era il solo rimasto della stirpe dei giganti: il suo letto di ferro, che si mostra in Rabbat degli Ammoniti, ha nove cubiti di lunghezza e quattro di larghezza, a misura del cubito d'una mano d'uomo.
12 'Then we took possession of this country, from Aroer on the Wadi Arnon. To the Reubenites andGadites I gave half the highlands of Gilead with its towns.	12 Allora noi occupammo la terra da Aroer, che è sulla riva del torrente Arnon, sino a metà dei monti di Galaad: ne diedi le città a Ruben e a Gael,
13 To the half-tribe of Manasseh I gave the rest of Gilead and the whole of Bashan, Og's kingdom. (Thewhole confederation of Argob and the whole of Bashan is cal ed the country of the Rephaim.	13 e il rimanente del paese di Galaad e tutto il Basan del regno di Og lo diedi alla mezza tribù di Manasse, come pure tutta la regione di Argob. Tutto il Basan è chiamato terra di giganti.
14 Since Jair son of Manasseh occupied the whole confederation of Argob as far as the frontiers of theGeshurites and Maacathites, after him Bashan is called the Encampments of Jair even today.)	14 Iair figlio di Manasse ebbe in possesso tutto il paese di Argob, fino ai confini di Gessuri e di Macati, e dal suo nome chiamò i villaggi di Basan Havot-Iair, cioè villaggi di Iair, nome che conservano.
15 To Machir I gave Gilead.	15 Così diedi Galaad anche a Machir.
16 To the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the region from Gilead to the Wadi Arnon, the middle of theravine marking the boundary, and up as far as the Jabbok, the ravine marking the frontier of the Ammonites.	16 Alle tribù di Ruben e di Gad diedi del paese di Galaad fino al torrente Arnon, la metà del torrente come confine, e fino al torrente Ieboc, che è il confine dei figli di Ammon,
17 The Arabah and the Jordan serve as frontiers from Chinnereth down to the Sea of the Arabah (theSalt Sea), at the foot of the slopes of Pisgah on the east.	17 e la pianura del deserto, e il Giordano, che segna il confine, e da Ceneret fino al mare del deserto, che è il mare, grandemente salato, e, verso oriente, fino alle falde del monte Fasga.
18 'I then gave you this order: "Yahweh your God has given you this country to be yours. Armed, everyone of you fit to fight must go ahead of your brothers the Israelites.	18 Ma allora io vi diedi quest'ordine: Il Signore Dio vostro vi dà questa terra in eredità, però voi tutti, uomini robusti, precedete armati i vostri fratelli figli d'Israele,
19 Only your wives, your children and your flocks (you have many flocks, I know) must stay behind in thetowns which I have given you,	19 lasciando le mogli, i figli e i bestiami. So bene che avete molti bestiami; ebbene questi rimangano nelle città che vi ho date,
20 until Yahweh has brought your brothers to rest as he has already brought you, and they too possessthe territory which Yahweh your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan; after that, you can go home,each to the domain I have given you."	20 fìnchè il Signore non abbia dato riposo ai vostri fratelli come a voi; finché non abbiano anch'essi preso possesso della terra che egli loro darà oltre il Giordano: allora ognun di voi tornerà nei suoi possessi che io v'ho dati.
21 I then gave Joshua this order, "You can see for yourself everything that Yahweh our God has done tothese two kings; Yahweh will do the same to al the kingdoms through which you pass.	21 In quel tempo detti a Giosuè quest'ordine: I tuoi occhi han veduto quel che il Signore Dio vostro ha fatto a questi due re: farà lo stesso a tutti i regni nei quali passerai:
22 Do not be afraid of them: Yahweh your God himself is fighting for you."	22 non temer di loro, perchè il Signore Dio vostro combatterà per voi.
23 'I then pleaded with Yahweh.	23 E in quel tempo pregai il Signore e dissi:
24 "My Lord Yahweh," I said, "now that you have begun to reveal your greatness and your power to yourservant with works and mighty deeds no God in heaven or on earth can rival,	24 Signore Dio, tu hai cominciato a mostrare al tuo servo la tua grandezza e la tua mano potentissima: non v'è infatti in cielo o in terra altro Dio che possa fare le tue opere ed essere paragonato a te nella fortezza.
25 may I not go across and see this fine country on the other side of the Jordan, that fine upland countryand the Lebanon?"	25 Io passerò a veder quella terra sì bella, oltre il Giordano, e quel bel monte e il Libano.
26 But, because of you, Yahweh was angry with me and would not listen. "Enough!" he said, "Do notmention this subject again!	26 Ma il Signore, adiratosi contro di me per cagion vostra, non mi esaudì, anzi mi disse: Basta: non me ne parlar più:
27 Climb to the top of Pisgah; turn your eyes to the west, the north, the south, the east. Look wel , foracross this Jordan you shall not go.	27 monta sulla vetta del Fasga e gira l'occhio ad occidente, e a settentrione, a mezzodì, ad oriente, e osserva; ma tu non passerai questo Giordano.
28 Give Joshua your instructions; encourage him, strengthen him; for he wil be the one to cross at thehead of this people; he wil be the one to bring them into possession of the country which you will see."	28 Dà i tuoi ordini a Giosuè, confortalo ed animalo, perchè lui andrà innanzi a questo popolo e gli distribuirà la terra che tu vedrai.
29 'We then stayed in the val ey, close to Beth-Peor.'	29 E noi ci fermammo nella valle, di faccia al tempio di Fogor.
