Deuteronomy 3

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 'We then turned on Bashan and invaded that. And Og king of Bashan marched out against us, he andal his people, to give battle at Edrei.	1 Poi piegammo e salimmo per la via di Basan. Og, re di Basan, con tutta la sua gente, ci venne incontro per darci battaglia a Edrei.
2 Yahweh said to me, "Do not be afraid of him, for I have put him at your mercy, him, al his people andhis country. You will treat him as you treated Sihon king of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon."	2 Il Signore mi disse: “Non lo temere, perché io lo do in tuo potere, lui, tutta la sua gente e il suo territorio; trattalo come hai trattato Sicon, re degli Amorrei, che abitava a Chesbon”.
3 So, Yahweh our God put Og king of Bashan at our mercy too, with al his people. We beat him sothoroughly that nobody was left.	3 Così il Signore, nostro Dio, mise in nostro potere anche Og, re di Basan, con tutta la sua gente; noi lo sconfiggemmo, così che non gli rimase più superstite alcuno.
4 That was when we captured al his towns; there was not a town of theirs we did not take: sixty towns,the whole confederation of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan,	4 Gli prendemmo in quel tempo tutte le sue città; non ci fu città che noi non prendessimo loro: sessanta città, tutta la regione di Argob, il regno di Og in Basan
5 all of them fortresses defended by high wal s and fortified with gates and bars, not to mention thePerizzite towns, which were very numerous.	5 – tutte queste città erano fortificate, con alte mura, porte e sbarre –, senza contare le città aperte, che erano molto numerose.
6 We laid them under the curse of destruction as we had done Sihon king of Heshbon, laying al thesetowns under the curse of destruction: men, women and children-	6 Noi le votammo allo sterminio, come avevamo fatto con Sicon, re di Chesbon: votammo allo sterminio ogni città, uomini, donne e bambini.
7 but we seized the livestock and spoils of the towns as booty for ourselves.	7 Ma prelevammo per noi come preda il bestiame e le spoglie delle città.
8 'Thus, by then we had taken the country of the two Amorite kings beyond the Jordan, stretching fromthe Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon	8 In quel tempo prendemmo ai due re degli Amorrei la terra che è oltre il Giordano, dal torrente Arnon al monte Ermon
9 (the Sidonians call Hermon 'Sirion' and the Amorites cal it 'Senir'):	9 – quelli di Sidone chiamano Sirion l’Ermon, mentre gli Amorrei lo chiamano Senir –,
10 al the towns of the tableland, all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, the capital citiesof Og in Bashan.	10 tutte le città della pianura, tutto Gàlaad, tutto Basan fino a Salca e a Edrei, città del regno di Og in Basan.
11 (Og king of Bashan was the last survivor of the Rephaim; his bed was the iron bed that can be seen atRabbah-of-the-Ammonites, nine cubits long and four wide, according to the human cubit.)	11 Perché Og, re di Basan, era rimasto l’unico superstite dei Refaìm. Ecco, il suo letto, un letto di ferro, non è forse a Rabbà degli Ammoniti? È lungo nove cubiti e largo quattro, secondo il cubito di un uomo.
12 'Then we took possession of this country, from Aroer on the Wadi Arnon. To the Reubenites andGadites I gave half the highlands of Gilead with its towns.	12 In quel tempo prendemmo possesso di questa terra, da Aroèr sul torrente Arnon, fino a metà della montagna di Gàlaad: diedi le sue città ai Rubeniti e ai Gaditi.
13 To the half-tribe of Manasseh I gave the rest of Gilead and the whole of Bashan, Og's kingdom. (Thewhole confederation of Argob and the whole of Bashan is cal ed the country of the Rephaim.	13 Alla metà della tribù di Manasse diedi il resto di Gàlaad e tutto il regno di Og in Basan, tutta la regione di Argob con tutto Basan, che si chiamava terra dei Refaìm.
14 Since Jair son of Manasseh occupied the whole confederation of Argob as far as the frontiers of theGeshurites and Maacathites, after him Bashan is called the Encampments of Jair even today.)	14 Iair, figlio di Manasse, prese tutta la regione di Argob, sino ai confini dei Ghesuriti e dei Maacatiti, e chiamò con il suo nome i villaggi di Basan, che anche oggi si chiamano villaggi di Iair.
15 To Machir I gave Gilead.	15 A Machir assegnai Gàlaad.
16 To the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the region from Gilead to the Wadi Arnon, the middle of theravine marking the boundary, and up as far as the Jabbok, the ravine marking the frontier of the Ammonites.	16 Ai Rubeniti e ai Gaditi diedi da Gàlaad fino al torrente Arnon – fino alla metà del torrente che serve di confine – e fino al torrente Iabbok, frontiera degli Ammoniti,
17 The Arabah and the Jordan serve as frontiers from Chinnereth down to the Sea of the Arabah (theSalt Sea), at the foot of the slopes of Pisgah on the east.	17 inoltre l’Araba e il Giordano; il territorio va da Chinneret fino al mare dell’Araba, cioè il Mar Morto, sotto le pendici del Pisga, a oriente.
18 'I then gave you this order: "Yahweh your God has given you this country to be yours. Armed, everyone of you fit to fight must go ahead of your brothers the Israelites.	18 In quel tempo io vi diedi quest’ordine: “Il Signore, vostro Dio, vi ha dato questo paese in proprietà. Voi tutti, uomini vigorosi, passerete armati alla testa degli Israeliti vostri fratelli.
19 Only your wives, your children and your flocks (you have many flocks, I know) must stay behind in thetowns which I have given you,	19 Soltanto le vostre mogli, i vostri fanciulli e il vostro bestiame – so che di bestiame ne avete molto – rimarranno nelle città che vi ho dato,
20 until Yahweh has brought your brothers to rest as he has already brought you, and they too possessthe territory which Yahweh your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan; after that, you can go home,each to the domain I have given you."	20 finché il Signore abbia dato una dimora tranquilla ai vostri fratelli come ha fatto per voi, e prendano anch’essi possesso della terra che il Signore, vostro Dio, sta per dare a loro oltre il Giordano. Poi ciascuno tornerà nel territorio che io vi ho assegnato”.
21 I then gave Joshua this order, "You can see for yourself everything that Yahweh our God has done tothese two kings; Yahweh will do the same to al the kingdoms through which you pass.	21 In quel tempo diedi anche a Giosuè quest’ordine: “I tuoi occhi hanno visto quanto il Signore, vostro Dio, ha fatto a questi due re; lo stesso farà il Signore a tutti i regni nei quali tu stai per entrare.
22 Do not be afraid of them: Yahweh your God himself is fighting for you."	22 Non li temete, perché lo stesso Signore, vostro Dio, combatte per voi”.
23 'I then pleaded with Yahweh.	23 In quel tempo io supplicai il Signore dicendo:
24 "My Lord Yahweh," I said, "now that you have begun to reveal your greatness and your power to yourservant with works and mighty deeds no God in heaven or on earth can rival,	24 “Signore Dio, tu hai cominciato a mostrare al tuo servo la tua grandezza e la tua mano potente; quale altro Dio, infatti, in cielo o sulla terra, può fare opere e prodigi come i tuoi?
25 may I not go across and see this fine country on the other side of the Jordan, that fine upland countryand the Lebanon?"	25 Permetti che io passi al di là e veda la bella terra che è oltre il Giordano e questi bei monti e il Libano”.
26 But, because of you, Yahweh was angry with me and would not listen. "Enough!" he said, "Do notmention this subject again!	26 Ma il Signore si adirò contro di me, per causa vostra, e non mi esaudì. Il Signore mi disse: “Basta, non aggiungere più una parola su questo argomento.
27 Climb to the top of Pisgah; turn your eyes to the west, the north, the south, the east. Look wel , foracross this Jordan you shall not go.	27 Sali sulla cima del Pisga, volgi lo sguardo a occidente, a settentrione, a mezzogiorno e a oriente, e contempla con gli occhi; perché tu non attraverserai questo Giordano.
28 Give Joshua your instructions; encourage him, strengthen him; for he wil be the one to cross at thehead of this people; he wil be the one to bring them into possession of the country which you will see."	28 Trasmetti i tuoi ordini a Giosuè, rendilo intrepido e incoraggialo, perché lui lo attraverserà alla testa di questo popolo e metterà Israele in possesso della terra che vedrai”.
29 'We then stayed in the val ey, close to Beth-Peor.'	29 Così ci fermammo nella valle di fronte a Bet-Peor.
