Deuteronomy 3

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 'We then turned on Bashan and invaded that. And Og king of Bashan marched out against us, he andal his people, to give battle at Edrei.	1 Después dimos vuelta y subimos en dirección a Basán. Entonces Og, rey de Basán, nos salió al paso con todo su ejército, dispuesto a presentarnos batalla en Edrei.
2 Yahweh said to me, "Do not be afraid of him, for I have put him at your mercy, him, al his people andhis country. You will treat him as you treated Sihon king of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon."	2 Pero el Señor me advirtió: «No le tengas miedo, porque yo lo pondré en tus manos con todo su ejército y sus dominios. Trátalo de la misma manera que trataste a Sijón, el rey de los amorreos que habitaba en Jesbón».
3 So, Yahweh our God put Og king of Bashan at our mercy too, with al his people. We beat him sothoroughly that nobody was left.	3 Efectivamente, el Señor, nuestro Dios, puso también en nuestras manos y Og, rey de Basán, con todo su ejército, y lo derrotamos hasta tal punto que no le quedó ni un sólo sobreviviente.
4 That was when we captured al his towns; there was not a town of theirs we did not take: sixty towns,the whole confederation of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan,	4 Aquella vez nos apoderamos de todas sus ciudades. Las conquistamos todas, sin exceptuar ninguna: las sesenta ciudades del distrito de Argob, que pertenecía al reino de Og, en Basán.
5 all of them fortresses defended by high wal s and fortified with gates and bars, not to mention thePerizzite towns, which were very numerous.	5 Todas ellas eran ciudades defendidas por altas murallas, puertas y cerrojos, sin contar las ciudades de los perizitas, que también eran muy numerosas.
6 We laid them under the curse of destruction as we had done Sihon king of Heshbon, laying al thesetowns under the curse of destruction: men, women and children-	6 Y las consagramos al exterminio, como habíamos hecho con Sijón, rey de Jesbón, matando en cada ciudad a hombres, mujeres y niños.
7 but we seized the livestock and spoils of the towns as booty for ourselves.	7 Pero nos reservamos como botín el ganado y los despojos de las ciudades.
8 'Thus, by then we had taken the country of the two Amorite kings beyond the Jordan, stretching fromthe Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon	8 Así conquistamos, en aquella ocasión, el territorio de los dos reyes amorreos de la Transjordania, desde el Arnón hasta el monte Hermón.
9 (the Sidonians call Hermon 'Sirion' and the Amorites cal it 'Senir'):	9 –Al cual los sidonios llaman Sirión y los amorreos Senir–
10 al the towns of the tableland, all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, the capital citiesof Og in Bashan.	10 incluidas todas las ciudades del altiplano, todo Galaad y todo Basán, hasta Salcá y Edrei, ciudades del reino de Og, en Basán.
11 (Og king of Bashan was the last survivor of the Rephaim; his bed was the iron bed that can be seen atRabbah-of-the-Ammonites, nine cubits long and four wide, according to the human cubit.)	11 En cuanto a Og. rey de Basán, él era el único sobreviviente de la raza de los gigantes. como puede apreciarse por su sarcófago, que todavía se encuentra en Rabat de los amonitas: es un sarcófago de basalto, que mide cuatro metros y medio de largo por cuatro de ancho, según la medida común.
12 'Then we took possession of this country, from Aroer on the Wadi Arnon. To the Reubenites andGadites I gave half the highlands of Gilead with its towns.	12 Una vez que tomamos posesión del país, yo entregué a las tribus de Rubén y de Gad el territorio que se extiende desde Aroer, en el valle del Arnón, hasta la mitad de las montañas de Galaad, con sus ciudades.
13 To the half-tribe of Manasseh I gave the rest of Gilead and the whole of Bashan, Og's kingdom. (Thewhole confederation of Argob and the whole of Bashan is cal ed the country of the Rephaim.	13 Y cedí a media tribu de Manasés el resto de Galaad y todo Basán –el reino de Og– incluyendo el distrito de Argob. Ahora bien, todo Basán es lo que hoy se llama Tierra de Gigantes.
14 Since Jair son of Manasseh occupied the whole confederation of Argob as far as the frontiers of theGeshurites and Maacathites, after him Bashan is called the Encampments of Jair even today.)	14 Pero Jaír, hijo de Manasés, se apoderó del distrito de Argob, hasta la frontera de Gesur y de Maacá, y puso su nombre a esa parte de Basán, que hasta hoy se sigue llamando Jaír.
15 To Machir I gave Gilead.	15 A Maquir le di Galaad.
16 To the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the region from Gilead to the Wadi Arnon, the middle of theravine marking the boundary, and up as far as the Jabbok, the ravine marking the frontier of the Ammonites.	16 A las tribus de Rubén y de Gad les cedí el territorio que va desde Galaad hasta el Arnón, con la mitad del torrente como frontera, y hasta el torrente laboc, que sirve de límite con los amonitas:
17 The Arabah and the Jordan serve as frontiers from Chinnereth down to the Sea of the Arabah (theSalt Sea), at the foot of the slopes of Pisgah on the east.	17 Y además, la Arabá, con el Jordán como frontera desde Genesaret hasta el mar de la Arabá o mar de la Sal, al pie de las laderas del Pisgá, hacia el oriente.
18 'I then gave you this order: "Yahweh your God has given you this country to be yours. Armed, everyone of you fit to fight must go ahead of your brothers the Israelites.	18 En aquel tiempo, yo les di esta orden: «El Señor, su Dios, los ha puesto en posesión de esta tierra, Ustedes, los guerreros, tomen sus armas y avancen al frente de sus hermanos, los israelitas.
19 Only your wives, your children and your flocks (you have many flocks, I know) must stay behind in thetowns which I have given you,	19 Solamente sus mujeres, con los niños y el ganado –yo sé que ustedes tienen mucho ganado– se quedarán en las ciudades que les di,
20 until Yahweh has brought your brothers to rest as he has already brought you, and they too possessthe territory which Yahweh your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan; after that, you can go home,each to the domain I have given you."	20 hasta que el Señor, su Dios, conceda el descanso a sus hermanos, como lo hizo con ustedes, y también ellos tomen posesión de la tierra que el Señor les dará al otro lado del Jordán. Luego cada uno podrá volver a la herencia que les he asignado».
21 I then gave Joshua this order, "You can see for yourself everything that Yahweh our God has done tothese two kings; Yahweh will do the same to al the kingdoms through which you pass.	21 Entonces hice esta advertencia a Josué: «Tú has visto con tus propios ojos todo lo que hizo el Señor, nuestro Dios, con estos dos reyes. De la misma manera tratará el Señor a todos los reinos por donde vas a pasar.
22 Do not be afraid of them: Yahweh your God himself is fighting for you."	22 No les teman, porque el que combate por ustedes es el Señor, tu Dios».
23 'I then pleaded with Yahweh.	23 Y en esa ocasión, yo dirigí al Señor esta súplica:
24 "My Lord Yahweh," I said, "now that you have begun to reveal your greatness and your power to yourservant with works and mighty deeds no God in heaven or on earth can rival,	24 «Señor, tú que has comenzado a mostrar a tu servidor tu grandeza y tu mano poderosa, porque no hay ningún dios en el cielo o en la tierra capaz de realizar las obras y los portentos que tú realizas:
25 may I not go across and see this fine country on the other side of the Jordan, that fine upland countryand the Lebanon?"	25 Déjame ir a ver la hermosa tierra que está del otro lado del Jordán, esa hermosa montaña, y el Líbano».
26 But, because of you, Yahweh was angry with me and would not listen. "Enough!" he said, "Do notmention this subject again!	26 Pero por culpa de ustedes. El Señor se irritó contra mí y no me escuchó, sino que me dijo: «¡Basta! no vuelvas a hablarme de ese asunto.
27 Climb to the top of Pisgah; turn your eyes to the west, the north, the south, the east. Look wel , foracross this Jordan you shall not go.	27 Sube a la cima del Pisgá y extiende tu mirada hacia el oeste y el norte, hacia el sur y el este, y contempla esa tierra, porque tú no cruzarás el Jordán.
28 Give Joshua your instructions; encourage him, strengthen him; for he wil be the one to cross at thehead of this people; he wil be the one to bring them into possession of the country which you will see."	28 Da a Josué las debidas instrucciones, infúndele valor y anímalo, porque él lo cruzará al frente de este pueblo y lo pondrá en posesión de la tierra que ahora vas a ver.
29 'We then stayed in the val ey, close to Beth-Peor.'	29 Y nos quedamos en el valle que está junto a Bet Peor.
