Deuteronomy 3

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'We then turned on Bashan and invaded that. And Og king of Bashan marched out against us, he andal his people, to give battle at Edrei.	1 Siamo partiti, risalendo per la strada di Basan. E Og, re di Basan, è uscito con tutto il suo popolo contro di noi in battaglia a Edrei.
2 Yahweh said to me, "Do not be afraid of him, for I have put him at your mercy, him, al his people andhis country. You will treat him as you treated Sihon king of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon."	2 E il Signore mi ha detto: "Non temerlo; io infatti ho messo in tuo potere lui, tutto il suo popolo e la sua terra. Lo tratterai come hai trattato Sicon, re degli Amorrei, che abitava in Chesbon".
3 So, Yahweh our God put Og king of Bashan at our mercy too, with al his people. We beat him sothoroughly that nobody was left.	3 Il Signore nostro Dio ha messo nelle nostre mani anche Og, re di Basan, con tutto il suo popolo; lo abbiamo battuto fino a non lasciargli nessun superstite.
4 That was when we captured al his towns; there was not a town of theirs we did not take: sixty towns,the whole confederation of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan,	4 Ci siamo impadroniti di tutte le sue città; non ci fu una città che non togliessimo loro. Sessanta città, tutta la zona di Argob, la capitale di Og, in Basan,
5 all of them fortresses defended by high wal s and fortified with gates and bars, not to mention thePerizzite towns, which were very numerous.	5 tutte città fortificate da alte mura, da porte e sbarre; oltre le numerosissime città dei Perizziti.
6 We laid them under the curse of destruction as we had done Sihon king of Heshbon, laying al thesetowns under the curse of destruction: men, women and children-	6 Le abbiamo votate all'anatema come avevamo fatto per Sicon, re di Chesbon, colpendo di anatema ogni città abitata, le donne e i fanciulli,
7 but we seized the livestock and spoils of the towns as booty for ourselves.	7 ma tutto il bestiame e il bottino della città l'abbiamo catturato per noi.
8 'Thus, by then we had taken the country of the two Amorite kings beyond the Jordan, stretching fromthe Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon	8 Così in quel tempo abbiamo preso la terra dalla mano dei due re degli Amorrei al di là del Giordano, dal torrente Arnon fino al monte Ermon.
9 (the Sidonians call Hermon 'Sirion' and the Amorites cal it 'Senir'):	9 I Sidoni dànno all'Ermon il nome di Sirion, gli Amorrei lo chiamano Senir.
10 al the towns of the tableland, all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, the capital citiesof Og in Bashan.	10 Tutte le città dell'altipiano, tutto Galaad e tutto Basan fino a Salca e a Edrei, città del regno di Og in Basan.
11 (Og king of Bashan was the last survivor of the Rephaim; his bed was the iron bed that can be seen atRabbah-of-the-Ammonites, nine cubits long and four wide, according to the human cubit.)	11 Perché soltanto Og, re di Basan, sopravviveva dei Refaim; ecco, il suo letto, un letto di ferro, si trova a Rabbat dei figli di Ammon: ha nove cubiti di lunghezza, quattro cubiti di larghezza, in cubiti ordinari.
12 'Then we took possession of this country, from Aroer on the Wadi Arnon. To the Reubenites andGadites I gave half the highlands of Gilead with its towns.	12 In quel tempo dunque ci siamo impadroniti di questa terra da Aroer sul torrente Arnon. Ho assegnato a Ruben e a Gad metà della montagna di Galaad con le città,
13 To the half-tribe of Manasseh I gave the rest of Gilead and the whole of Bashan, Og's kingdom. (Thewhole confederation of Argob and the whole of Bashan is cal ed the country of the Rephaim.	13 il resto di Galaad e tutto Basan, regno di Og, l'ho dato a metà della tribù di Manasse. Tutta la zona dell'Argob e tutto Basan, si chiamava terra dei Refaim.
14 Since Jair son of Manasseh occupied the whole confederation of Argob as far as the frontiers of theGeshurites and Maacathites, after him Bashan is called the Encampments of Jair even today.)	14 Iair, figlio di Manasse, ha preso tutta la zona dell'Argob fino alla frontiera dei Ghesuriti e dei Maacatiti e, dal suo nome, quei luoghi ancora oggi sono chiamati a Basan villaggi di Iair.
15 To Machir I gave Gilead.	15 A Machir ho assegnato Galaad.
16 To the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the region from Gilead to the Wadi Arnon, the middle of theravine marking the boundary, and up as far as the Jabbok, the ravine marking the frontier of the Ammonites.	16 Ai Rubeniti e ai Gaditi ho assegnato da Galaad al torrente Arnon, a metà del fiume col territorio fino al torrente Iabbok, frontiera dei figli di Ammon,
17 The Arabah and the Jordan serve as frontiers from Chinnereth down to the Sea of the Arabah (theSalt Sea), at the foot of the slopes of Pisgah on the east.	17 inoltre l'Araba con il Giordano, col suo territorio da Genèsaret fino al Mare dell'Araba, Mar Morto, sotto i contrafforti del Pisga, a oriente.
18 'I then gave you this order: "Yahweh your God has given you this country to be yours. Armed, everyone of you fit to fight must go ahead of your brothers the Israelites.	18 In quel tempo vi ho ordinato: "Il Signore vostro Dio vi ha dato in possesso questa terra. In armi precederete i vostri fratelli, i figli d'Israele, tutti voi uomini di guerra;
19 Only your wives, your children and your flocks (you have many flocks, I know) must stay behind in thetowns which I have given you,	19 soltanto le vostre donne, i vostri fanciulli e i vostri greggi -- so che avete proprietà numerose -- resteranno nelle città che vi ho assegnate,
20 until Yahweh has brought your brothers to rest as he has already brought you, and they too possessthe territory which Yahweh your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan; after that, you can go home,each to the domain I have given you."	20 finché il Signore non abbia installato i vostri fratelli, come ha fatto per voi, e anch'essi entrino in possesso della terra che il Signore vostro Dio dà loro al di là del Giordano; allora ritornerete ognuno al possesso che vi ho assegnato".
21 I then gave Joshua this order, "You can see for yourself everything that Yahweh our God has done tothese two kings; Yahweh will do the same to al the kingdoms through which you pass.	21 Allora ho ordinato a Giosuè: "I tuoi occhi vedono quanto il Signore vostro Dio ha fatto a quei due re: così il Signore farà a tutti i regni in cui tu stai per passare.
22 Do not be afraid of them: Yahweh your God himself is fighting for you."	22 Non abbiate paura di loro, poiché lo stesso Signore vostro Dio combatte per voi".
23 'I then pleaded with Yahweh.	23 In quel tempo ho chiesto grazia al Signore, dicendo:
24 "My Lord Yahweh," I said, "now that you have begun to reveal your greatness and your power to yourservant with works and mighty deeds no God in heaven or on earth can rival,	24 "Mio Signore Dio, tu hai incominciato a mostrare al tuo servo la tua grandezza e la tua mano potente; perché, quale Dio in cielo e in terra eguaglia le tue opere e le tue gesta?
25 may I not go across and see this fine country on the other side of the Jordan, that fine upland countryand the Lebanon?"	25 Concedimi di attraversare, per vedere la terra buona che è al di là del Giordano, quella buona montagna e il Libano!".
26 But, because of you, Yahweh was angry with me and would not listen. "Enough!" he said, "Do notmention this subject again!	26 Ma il Signore si è irritato contro di me a causa vostra, e non mi ha ascoltato. Mi ha detto: "Basta! Non aggiungere più parola con me su questo argomento.
27 Climb to the top of Pisgah; turn your eyes to the west, the north, the south, the east. Look wel , foracross this Jordan you shall not go.	27 Sali sulla vetta del Pisga, alza gli occhi a occidente, a settentrione, a mezzodì, a oriente, e contempla coi tuoi occhi: poiché tu non attraverserai questo Giordano!
28 Give Joshua your instructions; encourage him, strengthen him; for he wil be the one to cross at thehead of this people; he wil be the one to bring them into possession of the country which you will see."	28 Da' ordini a Giosuè, fortificalo, rendilo fermo. Egli attraverserà dinanzi a questo popolo e lo metterà in possesso della terra che tu contemplerai".
29 'We then stayed in the val ey, close to Beth-Peor.'	29 Siamo quindi rimasti nella valle di fronte a Bet-Peor.
