Deuteronomy 3

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 'We then turned on Bashan and invaded that. And Og king of Bashan marched out against us, he andal his people, to give battle at Edrei.
2 Yahweh said to me, "Do not be afraid of him, for I have put him at your mercy, him, al his people andhis country. You will treat him as you treated Sihon king of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon."	2 Yahvé me dit: "Ne le crains pas, car je l'ai livré en ton pouvoir, lui, tout son peuple et sonpays. Tu le traiteras comme tu as traité Sihôn, le roi amorite, qui habite à Heshbôn."
3 So, Yahweh our God put Og king of Bashan at our mercy too, with al his people. We beat him sothoroughly that nobody was left.	3 Yahvé notre Dieu livra aussi en notre pouvoir Og, roi du Bashân, et tout son peuple. Nous lebattîmes si bien que pas un n'en réchappa.
4 That was when we captured al his towns; there was not a town of theirs we did not take: sixty towns,the whole confederation of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan,	4 Puis en ce temps nous nous emparâmes de toutes ses villes; il n'y eut cité que nous ne leurayons prise: 60 villes, toute la confédération d'Argob, royaume d'Og en Bashân,
5 all of them fortresses defended by high wal s and fortified with gates and bars, not to mention thePerizzite towns, which were very numerous.	5 toutes places fortes fermées de hautes murailles, munies de portes et de barres; sans compterles villes des Perizzites, fort nombreuses.
6 We laid them under the curse of destruction as we had done Sihon king of Heshbon, laying al thesetowns under the curse of destruction: men, women and children-	6 Nous les dévouâmes par anathème, comme nous avions fait pour Sihôn, roi de Heshbôn,dévouant à l'anathème toutes ces villes d'hommes mariés, les femmes et les enfants;
7 but we seized the livestock and spoils of the towns as booty for ourselves.	7 mais tout le bétail et les dépouilles des villes furent notre butin.
8 'Thus, by then we had taken the country of the two Amorite kings beyond the Jordan, stretching fromthe Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon	8 Ainsi, en ce temps-là, avons-nous pris le pays au deux rois amorites d'au-delà du Jourdain,depuis le torrent de l'Arnon jusqu'au mont Hermon
9 (the Sidonians call Hermon 'Sirion' and the Amorites cal it 'Senir'):	9 (les Sidoniens appellent l'Hermon Siryôn, les Amorites le nomment Senir):
10 al the towns of the tableland, all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, the capital citiesof Og in Bashan.	10 toutes les villes du Haut-Plateau, tout le Galaad et tout le Bashân jusqu'à Salka et Edréï,capitales d'Og en Bashân.
11 (Og king of Bashan was the last survivor of the Rephaim; his bed was the iron bed that can be seen atRabbah-of-the-Ammonites, nine cubits long and four wide, according to the human cubit.)	11 (Or Og, roi du Bashân, était le dernier survivant des Rephaïm: son lit est le lit de fer qu'onvoit à Rabba des Ammonites, long de neuf coudées et large de quatre, en coudées d'hommes.)
12 'Then we took possession of this country, from Aroer on the Wadi Arnon. To the Reubenites andGadites I gave half the highlands of Gilead with its towns.	12 Nous avons alors pris possession de ce pays, à partir d'Aroër sur le torrent de l'Arnon. Jedonnai aux Rubénites et aux Gadites la moitié de la montagne de Galaad, avec ses villes.
13 To the half-tribe of Manasseh I gave the rest of Gilead and the whole of Bashan, Og's kingdom. (Thewhole confederation of Argob and the whole of Bashan is cal ed the country of the Rephaim.	13 A la demi-tribu de Manassé, je donnai le reste de Galaad et tout le Bashân, royaume d'Og.(Toute la confédération d'Argob, tout le Bashân, c'est ce qu'on appelle le pays des Rephaïm.
14 Since Jair son of Manasseh occupied the whole confederation of Argob as far as the frontiers of theGeshurites and Maacathites, after him Bashan is called the Encampments of Jair even today.)	14 Yaïr, fils de Manassé, s'était emparé de toute la confédération d'Argob jusqu'aux frontièresdes Geshurites et des Maakatites, qu'il appela -- ce Bashân -- de son nom "Douars de Yaïr" jusqu'à ce jour.)
15 To Machir I gave Gilead.	15 A Makir, je donnai le Galaad.
16 To the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the region from Gilead to the Wadi Arnon, the middle of theravine marking the boundary, and up as far as the Jabbok, the ravine marking the frontier of the Ammonites.	16 Aux Rubénites et aux Gadites je donnai le Galaad jusqu'au torrent de l'Arnon, le milieu dutorrent marquant la frontière, et jusqu'au Yabboq, le torrent marquant la frontière des Ammonites.
17 The Arabah and the Jordan serve as frontiers from Chinnereth down to the Sea of the Arabah (theSalt Sea), at the foot of the slopes of Pisgah on the east.	17 La Araba et le Jourdain servaient de frontière, depuis Kinnérèt jusqu'à la mer de la Araba (lamer Salée), au pied des pentes du Pisga à l'orient.
18 'I then gave you this order: "Yahweh your God has given you this country to be yours. Armed, everyone of you fit to fight must go ahead of your brothers the Israelites.	18 Je vous donnai alors cet ordre: "Yahvé votre Dieu vous a donné ce pays pour domaine.Armés, vous passerez devant vos frères, les Israélites, tous hommes de guerre;
19 Only your wives, your children and your flocks (you have many flocks, I know) must stay behind in thetowns which I have given you,	19 seuls vos femmes, vos enfants et vos troupeaux (car je sais vos troupeaux nombreux)resteront dans les villes que je vous ai données,
20 until Yahweh has brought your brothers to rest as he has already brought you, and they too possessthe territory which Yahweh your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan; after that, you can go home,each to the domain I have given you."	20 jusqu'à ce que Yahvé ait donné le repos à vos frères comme à vous-mêmes, et qu'ilspossèdent eux aussi les pays que Yahvé votre Dieu leur donne au-delà du Jourdain; alors vous retournerezchacun dans les domaines que je vous ai donnés."
21 I then gave Joshua this order, "You can see for yourself everything that Yahweh our God has done tothese two kings; Yahweh will do the same to al the kingdoms through which you pass.	21 Je donnai alors cet ordre à Josué: "Tu vois de tes yeux tout ce que Yahvé notre Dieu a fait àces deux rois; Yahvé traitera de même tous les royaumes où tu vas passer.
22 Do not be afraid of them: Yahweh your God himself is fighting for you."	22 Vous ne les craindrez point: c'est Yahvé votre Dieu qui combat pour vous."
23 'I then pleaded with Yahweh.	23 Je demandai alors une grâce à Yahvé:
24 "My Lord Yahweh," I said, "now that you have begun to reveal your greatness and your power to yourservant with works and mighty deeds no God in heaven or on earth can rival,	24 "Mon Seigneur Yahvé, toi qui as commencé à faire voir à ton serviteur ta grandeur et tapuissante main, qui... Quel dieu dans les cieux et sur la terre agit comme tu agis et avec même puissance?
25 may I not go across and see this fine country on the other side of the Jordan, that fine upland countryand the Lebanon?"	25 Ne pourrais-je passer là-bas, et voir cet heureux pays au-delà du Jourdain, cette heureusemontagne, et le Liban?"
26 But, because of you, Yahweh was angry with me and would not listen. "Enough!" he said, "Do notmention this subject again!	26 Mais, à cause de vous, Yahvé s'irrita contre moi et ne m'exauça point. Il me dit: "Assez! Necontinue plus à me parler de cette affaire!
27 Climb to the top of Pisgah; turn your eyes to the west, the north, the south, the east. Look wel , foracross this Jordan you shall not go.	27 Monte au sommet du Pisga, porte tes regards à l'occident, au nord, au midi et à l'orient;regarde de tes yeux, car tu ne passeras pas le Jourdain que voici.
28 Give Joshua your instructions; encourage him, strengthen him; for he wil be the one to cross at thehead of this people; he wil be the one to bring them into possession of the country which you will see."	28 Donne tes ordres à Josué, fortifie-le, confirme-le, car c'est lui qui passera, à la tête de cepeuple; à lui de les mettre en possession du pays que tu vas voir."
29 'We then stayed in the val ey, close to Beth-Peor.'	29 Puis nous sommes restés dans la vallée, en face de Bet-Péor.
