NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 As he was leaving the Temple one of his disciples said to him, 'Master, look at the size of thosestones! Look at the size of those buildings!'	1 Mentre egli lasciava il tempio, uno dei suoi discepoli gli disse: "Maestro, guarda che pietre e che costruzioni!".
2 And Jesus said to him, 'You see these great buildings? Not a single stone wil be left on another;everything wil be pul ed down.'	2 Gesù gli rispose: "Vedi queste grosse costruzioni? Non resterà qui pietra su pietra, che non sia diroccata".
3 And while he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, facing the Temple, Peter, James, John and Andrewquestioned him when they were by themselves,	3 E mentre egli era seduto sul monte degli Ulivi, di fronte al tempio, privatamente Pietro e Giacomo, Giovanni e Andrea gli domandarono:
4 'Tel us, when is this going to happen, and what sign wil there be that it is all about to take place?'	4 "Dicci: quando avverrà ciò e quale sarà il segno di quando tutto questo starà per compiersi?".
5 Then Jesus began to tel them, 'Take care that no one deceives you.	5 Allora Gesù incominciò a dir loro: "Badate che nessuno v'inganni.
6 Many wil come using my name and saying, "I am he," and they wil deceive many.	6 Molti verranno in mio nome, dicendo: "Sono io", e inganneranno molti.
7 When you hear of wars and rumours of wars, do not be alarmed; this is something that must happen,but the end wil not be yet.	7 Quando, poi, sentirete parlare di guerre e di rumori di guerre, non spaventatevi! E' necessario che ciò avvenga, ma non sarà ancora la fine.
8 For nation wil fight against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There wil be earthquakes in variousplaces; there wil be famines. This is the beginning of the birth-pangs.	8 Infatti, insorgerà nazione contro nazione e regno contro regno; ci saranno terremoti in diversi luoghi e carestie. Ciò sarà il principio dei dolori.
9 'Be on your guard: you wil be handed over to sanhedrins; you wil be beaten in synagogues; and you wil be brought before governors and kings for my sake, as evidence to them,	9 Quanto a voi, badate a voi stessi! Vi consegneranno ai sinedri, vi percuoteranno nelle sinagoghe e a causa mia dovrete stare davanti a governatori e re per rendere testimonianza davanti ad essi.
10 since the gospel must first be proclaimed to al nations.	10 Prima, però, bisogna che il vangelo sia predicato tra tutte le genti.
11 'And when you are taken to be handed over, do not worry beforehand about what to say; no, saywhatever is given to you when the time comes, because it is not you who wil be speaking; it is the Holy Spirit.	11 Quando, dunque, vi trascineranno per consegnarvi ad essi, non preoccupatevi in anticipo di che cosa dovrete dire; ma ciò che in quel momento vi sarà ispirato, questo soltanto dite. Poiché non sarete voi a parlare, ma lo Spirito Santo.
12 Brother wil betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will come forward against theirparents and have them put to death.	12 Un fratello consegnerà a morte un altro fratello, e il padre il figlio. I figli, poi, insorgeranno contro i genitori e li faranno morire.
13 You wil be universal y hated on account of my name; but anyone who stands firm to the end wil besaved.	13 Anche voi sarete odiati da tutti a causa del mio nome. Ma chi starà saldo fino alla fine, costui sarà salvato.
14 'When you see the appal ing abomination set up where it ought not to be (let the reader understand),then those in Judaea must escape to the mountains;	14 Quando vedrete l'abominazione della desolazione posta là dove non dovrebbe, il lettore faccia bene attenzione, allora quelli che sono in Giudea fuggano sui monti;
15 if a man is on the housetop, he must not come down or go inside to col ect anything from his house;	15 chi è sulla terrazza non scenda per entrare a prendere qualcosa nella sua casa;
16 if a man is in the fields, he must not turn back to fetch his cloak.	16 e chi è andato in campagna non torni indietro a prendersi il mantello.
17 Alas for those with child, or with babies at the breast, when those days come!	17 Guai a quelle che in quei giorni saranno incinte o allatteranno!
18 Pray that this may not be in winter.	18 Pregate affinché ciò non avvenga d'inverno,
19 For in those days there will be great distress, unparalleled since God created the world, and such aswil never be again.	19 poiché quei giorni saranno una tale tribolazione, quale non vi fu mai dal principio della creazione, fatta da Dio, sino ad ora, né vi sarà giammai.
20 And if the Lord had not shortened that time, no human being would have survived; but he did shortenthe time, for the sake of the elect whom he chose.	20 E se il Signore non avesse accorciato tali giorni, nessuna persona potrebbe salvarsi. A causa degli eletti che si è scelto, egli però ha accorciato tali giorni.
21 'And if anyone says to you then, "Look, here is the Christ" or, "Look, he is there," do not believe it;	21 Allora se qualcuno vi dirà: "Ecco qui il Cristo! Eccolo là!", non credetegli.
22 for false Christs and false prophets wil arise and produce signs and portents to deceive the elect, ifthat were possible.	22 Infatti, sorgeranno falsi cristi e falsi profeti, i quali vi daranno a vedere segni e prodigi per sedurre, se possibile, gli stessi eletti.
23 You, therefore, must be on your guard. I have given you full warning.	23 Voi, perciò, state in guardia! Vi ho detto tutto in anticipo.
24 'But in those days, after that time of distress, the sun wil be darkened, the moon wil not give its light,	24 Ma in quei giorni, dopo quella tribolazione, il sole si oscurerà e la luna non darà più la sua luce;
25 the stars will come falling out of the sky and the powers in the heavens wil be shaken.	25 gli astri cadranno dal cielo e le potenze dei cieli saranno sconvolte.
26 And then they wil see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.	26 Allora si vedrà il Figlio dell'uomo giungere tra le nuvole con grande potenza e gloria.
27 And then he wil send the angels to gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the world tothe ends of the sky.	27 Manderà gli angeli e radunerà i suoi eletti dai quattro venti, dall'estremità della terra all'estremità del cielo.
28 'Take the fig tree as a parable: as soon as its twigs grow supple and its leaves come out, you knowthat summer is near.	28 Imparate dal fico questa parabola. Quando i suoi rami divengono teneri e spuntano le foglie, voi conoscete che l'estate è vicina.
29 So with you when you see these things happening: know that he is near, right at the gates.	29 Così anche voi, quando vedrete accadere queste cose, sappiate che è vicino, alle porte.
30 In truth I tel you, before this generation has passed away al these things will have taken place.	30 In verità vi dico: non passerà questa generazione, prima che tutto ciò sia accaduto.
31 Sky and earth wil pass away, but my words wil not pass away.	31 Il cielo e la terra passeranno, ma le mie parole non passeranno.
32 'But as for that day or hour, nobody knows it, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son; no one butthe Father.	32 Quanto a quel giorno o all'ora, però, nessuno ne sa niente, neppure gli angeli del cielo e neppure il Figlio, se non il Padre.
33 'Be on your guard, stay awake, because you never know when the time wil come.	33 State attenti, vegliate! Poiché non sapete quando sarà il tempo.
34 It is like a man travel ing abroad: he has gone from his home, and left his servants in charge, eachwith his own work to do; and he has told the doorkeeper to stay awake.	34 Sarà come di un uomo che, partendo per un viaggio, ha lasciato la sua casa dando ogni potere ai suoi servi, a ciascuno il suo compito, e al portinaio ha comandato di vigilare.
35 So stay awake, because you do not know when the master of the house is coming, evening,midnight, cockcrow or dawn;	35 Vegliate, dunque, giacché non sapete quando il padrone della casa giungerà, se la sera o a mezzanotte, al canto del gallo o al mattino.
36 if he comes unexpectedly, he must not find you asleep.	36 Che egli, giungendo all'improvviso, non vi trovi addormentati.
37 And what I am saying to you I say to al : Stay awake!'	37 Ciò che dico a voi, lo dico a tutti: vegliate!".
