NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
As he was leaving the Temple one of his disciples said to him, 'Master, look at the size of thosestones! Look at the size of those buildings!'1 Et cum egrederetur de tem plo, ait illi unus ex discipulis suis: “Magister, aspice quales lapides et quales structurae ”.
And Jesus said to him, 'You see these great buildings? Not a single stone wil be left on another;everything wil be pul ed down.'2 Et Iesus ait illi:“ Vides has magnas aedificationes? Hic non relinquetur lapis super lapidem,qui non destruatur ”.
And while he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, facing the Temple, Peter, James, John and Andrewquestioned him when they were by themselves,3 Et cum sederet in montem Olivarum contra templum,interrogabat eum separatim Petrus et Iacobus et Ioannes et Andreas:
'Tel us, when is this going to happen, and what sign wil there be that it is all about to take place?'4 “ Dicnobis: Quando ista erunt, et quod signum erit, quando haec omnia incipientconsummari? ”.
Then Jesus began to tel them, 'Take care that no one deceives you.5 Iesus autem coepit dicere illis: “ Videte, ne quis vos seducat.
Many wil come using my name and saying, "I am he," and they wil deceive many.6 Multivenient in nomine meo dicentes: “Ego sum”, et multos seducent.
When you hear of wars and rumours of wars, do not be alarmed; this is something that must happen,but the end wil not be yet.7 Cumaudieritis autem bella et opiniones bellorum, ne timueritis; oportet fieri sednondum finis.
For nation wil fight against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There wil be earthquakes in variousplaces; there wil be famines. This is the beginning of the birth-pangs.8 Exsurget enim gens super gentem, et regnum super regnum, eruntterrae motus per loca, erunt fames; initium dolorum haec.
'Be on your guard: you wil be handed over to sanhedrins; you wil be beaten in synagogues; and you wil be brought before governors and kings for my sake, as evidence to them,9 Videte autem vosmetipsos. Tradent vos conciliis, et in synagogis vapulabitiset ante praesides et reges stabitis propter me in testimonium illis.
since the gospel must first be proclaimed to al nations.10 Et inomnes gentes primum oportet praedicari evangelium.
'And when you are taken to be handed over, do not worry beforehand about what to say; no, saywhatever is given to you when the time comes, because it is not you who wil be speaking; it is the Holy Spirit.11 Et cum duxerint vostradentes, nolite praecogitare quid loquamini, sed, quod datum vobis fuerit inilla hora, id loquimini: non enim estis vos loquentes sed Spiritus Sanctus.
Brother wil betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will come forward against theirparents and have them put to death.12 Et tradet frater fratrem in mortem, et pater filium; et consurgent filii inparentes et morte afficient eos;
You wil be universal y hated on account of my name; but anyone who stands firm to the end wil besaved.13 et eritis odio omnibus propter nomen meum.Qui autem sustinuerit in finem, hic salvus erit.
'When you see the appal ing abomination set up where it ought not to be (let the reader understand),then those in Judaea must escape to the mountains;14 Cum autem videritis abominationem desolationis stantem, ubi non debet, quilegit, intellegat: tunc, qui in Iudaea sunt, fugiant in montes;
if a man is on the housetop, he must not come down or go inside to col ect anything from his house;15 qui autemsuper tectum, ne descendat nec introeat, ut tollat quid de domo sua;
if a man is in the fields, he must not turn back to fetch his cloak.16 et, quiin agro erit, non revertatur retro tollere vestimentum suum.
Alas for those with child, or with babies at the breast, when those days come!17 Vae autempraegnantibus et nutrientibus in illis diebus!
Pray that this may not be in winter.18 Orate vero, ut hieme non fiat:
For in those days there will be great distress, unparalleled since God created the world, and such aswil never be again.19 erunt enim dies illi tribulatio talis, qualis non fuit ab initio creaturae,quam condidit Deus, usque nunc, neque fiet.
And if the Lord had not shortened that time, no human being would have survived; but he did shortenthe time, for the sake of the elect whom he chose.20 Et nisi breviasset Dominus dies,non fuisset salva omnis caro. Sed propter electos, quos elegit, breviavit dies.
'And if anyone says to you then, "Look, here is the Christ" or, "Look, he is there," do not believe it;21 Et tunc, si quis vobis dixerit: “Ecce hic est Christus, ecce illic”, necredideritis.
for false Christs and false prophets wil arise and produce signs and portents to deceive the elect, ifthat were possible.22 Exsurgent enim pseudochristi et pseudoprophetae et dabunt signaet portenta ad seducendos, si potest fieri, electos.
You, therefore, must be on your guard. I have given you full warning.23 Vos autem videte;praedixi vobis omnia.
'But in those days, after that time of distress, the sun wil be darkened, the moon wil not give its light,24 Sed in illis diebus post tribulationem illam sol contenebrabitur, et luna nondabit splendorem suum,
the stars will come falling out of the sky and the powers in the heavens wil be shaken.25 et erunt stellae de caelo decidentes, et virtutes,quae sunt in caelis, movebuntur.
And then they wil see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.26 Et tunc videbunt Filium hominis venientem in nubibus cum virtute multa etgloria.
And then he wil send the angels to gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the world tothe ends of the sky.27 Et tunc mittet angelos et congregabit electos suos a quattuor ventis,a summo terrae usque ad summum caeli.
'Take the fig tree as a parable: as soon as its twigs grow supple and its leaves come out, you knowthat summer is near.28 A ficu autem discite parabolam: cum iam ramus eius tener fuerit etgerminaverit folia, cognoscitis quia in proximo sit aestas.
So with you when you see these things happening: know that he is near, right at the gates.29 Sic et vos, cumvideritis haec fieri, scitote quod in proximo sit in ostiis.
In truth I tel you, before this generation has passed away al these things will have taken place.30 Amen dico vobis:Non transiet generatio haec, donec omnia ista fiant.
Sky and earth wil pass away, but my words wil not pass away.31 Caelum et terratransibunt, verba autem mea non transibunt.
'But as for that day or hour, nobody knows it, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son; no one butthe Father.32 De die autem illo vel hora nemoscit, neque angeli in caelo neque Filius, nisi Pater.
'Be on your guard, stay awake, because you never know when the time wil come.33 Videte, vigilate; nescitis enim, quando tempus sit.
It is like a man travel ing abroad: he has gone from his home, and left his servants in charge, eachwith his own work to do; and he has told the doorkeeper to stay awake.34 Sicut homo, quiperegre profectus reliquit domum suam et dedit servis suis potestatem, unicuiqueopus suum, ianitori quoque praecepit, ut vigilaret.
So stay awake, because you do not know when the master of the house is coming, evening,midnight, cockcrow or dawn;35 Vigilate ergo; nescitisenim quando dominus domus veniat, sero an media nocte an galli cantu an mane;
if he comes unexpectedly, he must not find you asleep.36 ne, cum venerit repente, inveniat vos dormientes.
And what I am saying to you I say to al : Stay awake!'37 Quod autem vobis dico,omnibus dico: Vigilate! ”.
