NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	1 Ibi locutus est Dominus ad Moysen dicens:
2 'Send out men, one from each tribe, to reconnoitre the land of Canaan which I am giving theIsraelites. Each of them is to be a leading man of the tribe.'	2 “ Mitte vi ros, qui considerent terram Chanaan, quam daturus sum filiis Israel, singulos de singulis tribubus ex principibus ”.
3 At Yahweh's order, Moses sent them from the desert of Paran. All of them were leading men of Israel.	3 Fecit Moyses quod Dominus imperaverat, de deserto Pharan mittens principes viros, quorum ista sunt nomina:
4 These were their names: For the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur:	4 de tribu Ruben Sammua filium Zacchur,

17 Moses sent them to reconnoitre the land of Canaan, 'Go up into the Negeb,' he said, 'then go up intothe highlands.	17 Misit ergo eos Moyses ad considerandam terram Chanaan et dixit ad eos: “ Ascendite per Nageb. Cumque veneritis ad montes,
18 See what sort of country it is, and what sort of people the inhabitants are, whether they are strong orweak, few or many,	18 considerate terram, qualis sit, et populum, qui habitator est eius, utrum fortis sit an infirmus, si pauci numero an plures;
19 what sort of land they live on, whether it is good or poor; what sort of towns they live in, whether theyare open or fortified;	19 ipsa terra bona an mala, urbes quales, absque muris an muratae;
20 what sort of land it is, fertile or barren, wooded or open. Be bold, and bring back some of thecountry's produce.' It was the season for early grapes.	20 humus pinguis an sterilis, nemorosa an absque arboribus. Confortamini et afferte nobis de fructibus terrae ”. 21 They went up and reconnoitred the country from the desert of Zin to Rehob, the Pass of Hamath.	21 Cumque ascendissent, exploraverunt terram a deserto Sin usque Rohob in introitu Emath.
22 They went up by way of the Negeb as far as Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, theAnakim, lived. (Hebron was founded seven years before Tanis in Egypt.)	22 Ascenderuntque ad Nageb et venerunt in Hebron, ubi erant Ahiman et Sesai et Tholmai filii Enac. Nam Hebron septem annis ante Tanim urbem Aegypti condita est.
23 Reaching the Vale of Eshcol, there they lopped off a vine branch with a cluster of grapes, which twoof them carried away on a pole, as wel as pomegranates and figs.	23 Pergentesque usque ad Nehelescol absciderunt palmitem cum uva sua, quem portaverunt in vecte duo viri. De malis quoque granatis et de ficis loci illius tulerunt,
24 This place was called the Vale of Eshcol after the cluster which the Israelites cut there.	24 qui appellatus est Nehelescol, eo quod botrum portassent inde filii Israel.
25 After forty days they returned from reconnoitring the country.	25 Reversique exploratores terrae post quadraginta dies, omni regione circuita,
26 Making their way to Moses, Aaron and the whole community of Israel, in the desert of Paran, atKadesh, they made their report to them and the whole community, and displayed the country's produce.	26 venerunt ad Moysen et Aaron et ad omnem coetum filiorum Israel in desertum Pharan, quod est in Cades. Locutique eis et omni congregationi ostenderunt fructus terrae
27 This was the report they gave: 'We made our way into the country where you sent us. It does indeedflow with milk and honey; here is what it produces.	27 et narraverunt dicentes: “ Venimus in terram, ad quam misisti nos, quae re vera fluit lacte et melle, ut ex his fructibus cognosci potest.

31 But the men who had been with him said, 'We cannot attack these people; they are stronger than weare.'	31 Alii vero, qui fuerant cum eo, dicebant: “ Nequaquam ad hunc populum valemus ascendere, quia fortior nobis est ”.
32 And they began disparaging to the Israelites the country they had reconnoitred, saying, 'The countrywe have been to reconnoitre is a country that devours its inhabitants. Al the people we saw there were ofenormous size.	32 Detraxeruntque terrae, quam inspexerant, apud filios Israel dicentes: “ Terra, quam lustravimus, devorat habitatores suos; populus, quem aspeximus, procerae staturae est;
