NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	1 Ekkor szólt ott az Úr Mózeshez:
2 'Send out men, one from each tribe, to reconnoitre the land of Canaan which I am giving theIsraelites. Each of them is to be a leading man of the tribe.'	2 »Küldj férfiakat, hogy vegyék szemügyre Kánaán földjét, amelyet majd Izrael fiainak adok, minden törzsből egyet-egyet, a fejedelmek közül.«
3 At Yahweh's order, Moses sent them from the desert of Paran. All of them were leading men of Israel.	3 Megtette Mózes, amit az Úr parancsolt, s elküldte Párán pusztából a fejedelmi férfiakat, név szerint:
4 These were their names: For the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur:	4 Rúben törzséből: Sámuát, Zekur fiát,
5 for the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;	5 Simeon törzséből: Safátot, Húri fiát,
6 for the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;	6 Júda törzséből: Kálebet, Jefóne fiát,
7 for the tribe of of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;	7 Isszakár törzséből: Jígalt, József fiát,
8 for the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;	8 Efraim törzséből: Hóseát, Nún fiát,
9 for the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu;	9 Benjamin törzséből: Fáltit, Ráfu fiát,
10 for the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi;	10 Zebulon törzséből: Geddiélt, Szódi fiát,
11 for the tribe of Joseph, for the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi son of Susi;	11 József törzséből: Manassze ágából: Gáddit, Szúszi fiát,
12 for the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemal i;	12 Dán törzséből: Ammielt, Gemálli fiát,
13 for the tribe of Asher, Sethur son of Michael;	13 Áser törzséből: Sztúrt, Mikaél fiát,
14 for the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vophsi;	14 Naftali törzséből: Nahábit, Vápszi fiát,
15 for the tribe of Gad, Geuel son of Machi.	15 Gád törzséből: Gúelt, Máki fiát.
16 Such were the names of the men whom Moses sent to reconnoitre the country. Moses then gaveHoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.	16 Ez volt azoknak a férfiaknak a neve, akiket Mózes elküldött, hogy vegyék szemügyre a földet. Hóseát, Nún fiát azonban Józsuénak hívta.
17 Moses sent them to reconnoitre the land of Canaan, 'Go up into the Negeb,' he said, 'then go up intothe highlands.	17 Elküldte tehát ezeket Mózes, hogy vegyék szemügyre Kánaán földjét és azt mondta nekik: »Menjetek fel a Délvidéken át, s ha feljuttok a hegyekre,
18 See what sort of country it is, and what sort of people the inhabitants are, whether they are strong orweak, few or many,	18 vegyétek szemügyre azt a földet, hogy milyen, meg a népet, amely lakja, hogy erős-e vagy gyenge, hogy számra nézve kevés-e vagy sok,
19 what sort of land they live on, whether it is good or poor; what sort of towns they live in, whether theyare open or fortified;	19 maga a föld jó-e vagy rossz, milyenek a városok, körülkerítettek-e vagy kerítetlenek,
20 what sort of land it is, fertile or barren, wooded or open. Be bold, and bring back some of thecountry's produce.' It was the season for early grapes.	20 a talaj kövér-e vagy sovány, erdős-e vagy fátlan. Legyetek bátrak, s hozzatok nekünk a föld gyümölcseiből.« – Éppen az az idő volt, amikor már enni lehetett a korai szőlőt.
21 They went up and reconnoitred the country from the desert of Zin to Rehob, the Pass of Hamath.	21 Felmentek tehát, s kikémlelték a földet a Szín-pusztától kezdve egészen Rohóbig, amely Emát felé menet van.
22 They went up by way of the Negeb as far as Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, theAnakim, lived. (Hebron was founded seven years before Tanis in Egypt.)	22 Felmentek a Délvidékre, s eljutottak Hebronba, ahol Achimán, Sisáj és Talmáj, Enák fiai voltak. – Hebron hét esztendővel előbb épült, mint Tánisz, Egyiptom városa. –
23 Reaching the Vale of Eshcol, there they lopped off a vine branch with a cluster of grapes, which twoof them carried away on a pole, as wel as pomegranates and figs.	23 Aztán elmentek a Szőlőfürt völgyéig, s levágtak egy szőlővesszőt a fürtjével együtt, s két férfi egy rúdon elhozta, és vettek a hely gránátalmáiból és fügéiből is,
24 This place was called the Vale of Eshcol after the cluster which the Israelites cut there.	24 a helyet pedig elnevezték Nehel-Eskólnak (azaz a Szőlőfürt völgyének), minthogy szőlőfürtöt hoztak onnan Izrael fiai.
25 After forty days they returned from reconnoitring the country.	25 Negyven nap múlva aztán, bejárva az egész vidéket, visszatértek a föld kémei,
26 Making their way to Moses, Aaron and the whole community of Israel, in the desert of Paran, atKadesh, they made their report to them and the whole community, and displayed the country's produce.	26 s eljutottak Mózeshez és Áronhoz meg Izrael fiainak egész gyülekezetéhez a Párán-pusztába, amely Kádesnél van. 27 This was the report they gave: 'We made our way into the country where you sent us. It does indeedflow with milk and honey; here is what it produces.	27 és elbeszélték, mondván: »Eljutottunk arra a földre, amelyre küldtél minket, s az csakugyan tejjel-mézzel folyó ország, amint ezekből a gyümölcsökből is látható,
28 At the same time, its inhabitants are a powerful people; the towns are fortified and very big; yes, andwe saw the Anakim there.	28 de igen erős lakói, nagy és fallal körülvett városai vannak: Enák utódait is láttuk ott.
29 The Amalekites occupy the Negeb area, the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites the highlands, and theCanaanites the sea coast and the banks of the Jordan.'	29 Amalekiták laknak a Délvidéken, hetiták, jebuziták, amoriták a hegységben és kánaániak laknak a tenger mellett és a Jordán folyó körül.«
30 Caleb called the people round Moses to silence and then said, 'We must march in immediately andtake it; we are certainly able to conquer it.'	30 Zúgolódni kezdett erre a nép Mózes ellen, de Káleb csendesítette őket, és azt mondta: »Csak menjünk fel, s foglaljuk el azt a földet, mert el tudjuk foglalni.«
31 But the men who had been with him said, 'We cannot attack these people; they are stronger than weare.'	31 Ám a többiek, akik vele voltak, azt mondták: »Semmiképpen sem mehetünk fel e nép ellen, mert erősebb nálunk.«
32 And they began disparaging to the Israelites the country they had reconnoitred, saying, 'The countrywe have been to reconnoitre is a country that devours its inhabitants.
