1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	1 E partito il popolo da Haseroth, piantò le tende nel deserto di Pharan,
2 'Send out men, one from each tribe, to reconnoitre the land of Canaan which I am giving theIsraelites. Each of them is to be a leading man of the tribe.'	2 Dove il Signore parlò a Mosè, e disse:
3 At Yahweh's order, Moses sent them from the desert of Paran. All of them were leading men of Israel.	3 Manda a considerare la terra di Canaan, la quale io darò a' figliuoli d'Israele, un uomo de'principali per ogni tribù.
4 These were their names: For the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur:	4 Fece Mosè quello che avea comandato il Signore, mandando dal deserto di Pharan uominiprincipali, de' quali i nomi son questi:
5 for the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;	5 Della tribù di Ruben, Sammua figliuolo di Zechur;
6 for the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;	6 Della tribù di Simeon, Saphat figliuolo di Huri;
7 for the tribe of of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;	7 Della tribù di Giuda, Caleb figliuolo di Jephone;
8 for the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;	8 Della tribù d'Issachar, Igal figliuolo di Joseph;
9 for the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu;	9 Della tribù di Ephraim, Osee figliuolo di Nun;

16 Such were the names of the men whom Moses sent to reconnoitre the country. Moses then gaveHoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.	16 Della tribù di Gad, Guel figliuolo di Machi.
17 Moses sent them to reconnoitre the land of Canaan, 'Go up into the Negeb,' he said, 'then go up intothe highlands.	17 Questi sono i nomi di quelli che Mosè mandò a visitare la terra: e ad Osee figliuolo di Nundiede il nome di Giosuè.
18 See what sort of country it is, and what sort of people the inhabitants are, whether they are strong orweak, few or many,	18 Mandogli adunque Mosè a visitare la terra di Canaan, e disse loro: Andate versa il mezzodì.E quando sarete giunti alle montagne,
19 what sort of land they live on, whether it is good or poor; what sort of towns they live in, whether theyare open or fortified;	19 Considerate la qualità della terra, e il popolo che l'abita, se sia forte, o debole; sepochi di numero, o molti:
20 what sort of land it is, fertile or barren, wooded or open. Be bold, and bring back some of thecountry's produce.' It was the season for early grapes.	20 Se la terra stessa sia buona, o cattiva: quali le città; se murate, o senza mura:
21 They went up and reconnoitred the country from the desert of Zin to Rehob, the Pass of Hamath.	21 Se il terreno sia grasso, o sterile; selvoso, o senza alberi. Fatevi cuore, e portateci de'frutti della terra. Era allora il tempo quando le uve primaticce sono da mangiarsi.
22 They went up by way of the Negeb as far as Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, theAnakim, lived. (Hebron was founded seven years before Tanis in Egypt.)	22 E quegli essendo andati, disaminaron la terra dal deserto di Sin fino a Rohob, per dove siva in Emath.
23 Reaching the Vale of Eshcol, there they lopped off a vine branch with a cluster of grapes, which twoof them carried away on a pole, as wel as pomegranates and figs.	23 Andarono Verso mezzodì, e giunsero ad Hebron, dove stavano Achiman,e Sisai, e Tholmaifigliuoli di Enac: perocché Hebron fu edificata sette anni prima di Tanim città dell'Egitto.
24 This place was called the Vale of Eshcol after the cluster which the Israelites cut there.	24 E tirando innanzi fino al Torrente del Grappolo, troncarono un tralcio col suo grappolo, elo portarono due uomini appeso ad un bastone. Preser anche delle melagranate, e de' fichi diquel luogo:
25 After forty days they returned from reconnoitring the country.	25 Gli fu dato questo nome di Nehel Escol, cioè Torrente del Grappolo, per averne indi portatoquel grappolo i figliuoli d'Israele.
26 Making their way to Moses, Aaron and the whole community of Israel, in the desert of Paran, atKadesh, they made their report to them and the whole community, and displayed the country's produce.	26 E tornarono gli esploratori dopo quaranta giorni, avendo scorso tutto il paese,
27 This was the report they gave: 'We made our way into the country where you sent us. It does indeedflow with milk and honey; here is what it produces.	27 E andarono a trovar Mosè ed Aronne e tutto il popolo de' figliuoli d'Israele nel deserto diPharan a Cades. E parlarono a lui, e a tutto il popolo, e mostrarono de' frutti della terra:
28 At the same time, its inhabitants are a powerful people; the towns are fortified and very big; yes, andwe saw the Anakim there.	28 E fecero il loro racconto,dicendo: Giungemmo nella terra, dove tu ci mandasti, e questaveramente scorre latte e miele, come si può riconoscere da questi frutti:
29 The Amalekites occupy the Negeb area, the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites the highlands, and theCanaanites the sea coast and the banks of the Jordan.'	29 Ma ella ha abitatori fortissimi, e città grandi e murate. Ivi abbiam veduto la stirpe diEnac.
30 Caleb called the people round Moses to silence and then said, 'We must march in immediately andtake it; we are certainly able to conquer it.'	30 Da mezzodì abita Amalec, l'Hetheo, e lo Jebuseo, e l'Amorrheo sulle montagne; il Cananeo poiverso il mare, e intorno al fiume Giordano.
31 But the men who had been with him said, 'We cannot attack these people; they are stronger than weare.'	31 Frattanto Caleb per sedare il rumore, che principiava a levarsi nel popolo contro Mosè,disse: Andiamo a prender possesso di quella terra: perocché noi potrem farne acquisto.
32 And they began disparaging to the Israelites the country they had reconnoitred, saying, 'The countrywe have been to reconnoitre is a country that devours its inhabitants. Al the people we saw there were ofenormous size.	32 Ma gli altri, che erano andati con lui, dicevano: No, che non possiamo andar contro quelpopolo, perché è più forte di noi.
33 We saw giants there too (the Anakim, descended from the Giants). We felt like grasshoppers, andso we seemed to them.'	33 E screditarono presso i figliuoli d'Israele la terra, che avean visitato, dicendo: la terra,che abbiamo scorsa, divora i suoi abitanti: il popolo, che abbiam veduto, è di grandestatura.
