1 Now Yahweh ordained that a great fish should swal ow Jonah; and Jonah remained in the bel y of thefish for three days and three nights.	1 Yahvé envoya un grand poisson pour avaler Jonas, et Jonas resta trois jours et trois nuits dans le ventre du grand poisson.
2 From the bel y of the fish, Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God; he said:	2 Du fond des boyaux du grand poisson, Jonas adressait cette prière à Yahvé son Dieu:
3 Out of my distress I cried to Yahweh and he answered me, from the bel y of Sheol I cried out; you heardmy voice!	3 “Du fond de ma détresse j’ai lancé un appel à Yahvé: il m’a répondu. Du gouffre des morts j’ai crié au secours et tu as entendu ma voix.
4 For you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods closed round me. Al yourwaves and bil ows passed over me;	4 Tu m’avais jeté au milieu des mers, seul au milieu du torrent; tes vagues et tes flots déferlaient sur moi.
5 then I thought, 'I am banished from your sight; how shal I ever see your holy Temple again?'	5 Je disais: ‘Me voilà chassé loin de toi, plus d’espoir de revoir ton Temple saint!’
6 The waters round me rose to my neck, the deep was closing round me, seaweed twining round myhead.	6 Les eaux me montaient jusqu’au cou, je me perdais dans les eaux de l’abîme, ma tête se prenait dans les algues.
7 To the roots of the mountains, I sank into the underworld, and its bars closed round me for ever. But youraised my life from the Pit, Yahweh my God!	7 J’étais descendu aux racines des montagnes, au pays dont les verrous pour toujours se ferment; mais tu m’as fait remonter de la fosse, Yahvé mon Dieu.
8 When my soul was growing ever weaker, Yahweh, I remembered you, and my prayer reached you inyour holy Temple.	8 Lorsque mon âme en moi se fondait, je me suis souvenu de Yahvé, ma prière est montée jusqu’à toi, jusqu’à ton saint Temple.
9 Some abandon their faithful love by worshipping false gods,	9 Ceux qui servent de vaines idoles ont sacrifié leur propre salut.
10 but I shal sacrifice to you with songs of praise. The vow I have made I shall fulfil! Salvation comesfrom Yahweh!	10 Mais c’est à toi que vont mes sacrifices, mes chants de louange. mes vœux que j’accomplirai, car Yahvé est celui qui sauve.”
11 Yahweh spoke to the fish, which then vomited Jonah onto the dry land.	11 Alors Yahvé parla au grand poisson, et le poisson vomit Jonas sur la terre sèche.
