Jonah 2

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Now Yahweh ordained that a great fish should swal ow Jonah; and Jonah remained in the bel y of thefish for three days and three nights.	1 Il Signore dispose che un grosso pesce divorasse Giona. Così Giona rimase nel ventre del pesce tre giorni e tre notti.
2 From the bel y of the fish, Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God; he said:	2 Allora Giona levò la preghiera al Signore suo Dio dal ventre del pesce
3 Out of my distress I cried to Yahweh and he answered me, from the bel y of Sheol I cried out; you heardmy voice!	3 e disse: "Ho invocato dal mio carcere il Signore ed egli mi ha risposto; dal profondo degl'inferi ho gridato e ha ascoltato il mio grido.
4 For you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods closed round me. Al yourwaves and bil ows passed over me;	4 Tu mi avevi scaraventato nel cuore dei mari e un torrente mi aveva circondato; tutti i tuoi flutti e le tue onde si erano riversati su di me!
5 then I thought, 'I am banished from your sight; how shal I ever see your holy Temple again?'	5 Io ho pensato: sono stato cacciato dalla tua presenza; eppure continuerò a guardare verso il tuo santo tempio.
6 The waters round me rose to my neck, the deep was closing round me, seaweed twining round myhead.	6 Le acque mi avevano circondato fino al collo, l'abisso mi aveva avvolto; le alghe si erano attorcigliate al mio capo.
7 To the roots of the mountains, I sank into the underworld, and its bars closed round me for ever. But youraised my life from the Pit, Yahweh my God!	7 Ero disceso alle radici delle montagne, in un paese sotterraneo e i suoi catenacci mi avrebbero rinchiuso per sempre. Ma tu hai tratto dalla fossa la mia vita, o Signore, mio Dio!
8 When my soul was growing ever weaker, Yahweh, I remembered you, and my prayer reached you inyour holy Temple.	8 Quando la vita si affievoliva in me, mi sono ricordato del Signore: è giunta a te la mia preghiera nel tuo santo tempio.
9 Some abandon their faithful love by worshipping false gods,	9 Coloro che adorano gli idoli abbandonano la loro grazia.
10 but I shal sacrifice to you with songs of praise. The vow I have made I shall fulfil! Salvation comesfrom Yahweh!	10 Io con voce di lode ti offrirò sacrifici, ciò che ho promesso io compio. La salvezza è del Signore!".
11 Yahweh spoke to the fish, which then vomited Jonah onto the dry land.	11 Allora il Signore ordinò al pesce di restituire Giona sulla spiaggia.
