Jonah 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Now Yahweh ordained that a great fish should swal ow Jonah; and Jonah remained in the bel y of thefish for three days and three nights.	1 Il Signore mandò un gran pesce a ingoiare Giona, e Giona stette nel ventre del pesce tre giorni e tre notti.
2 From the bel y of the fish, Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God; he said:	2 E dal ventre del pesce Giona pregò il Signore Dio suo,
3 Out of my distress I cried to Yahweh and he answered me, from the bel y of Sheol I cried out; you heardmy voice!	3 e disse: « Dalla mia tribolazione ho alzata la mia voce al Signore, ed egli mi ha esaudito; dal seno dell'abisso ho gridato, e tu hai ascoltata la mia voce.
4 For you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods closed round me. Al yourwaves and bil ows passed over me;	4 Tu mi hai gettato nel profondo, nel cuore del mare, e le onde mi han circondato da ogni parte. Tutti i tuoi marosi e i tuoi flutti son passati sopra di me.
5 then I thought, 'I am banished from your sight; how shal I ever see your holy Temple again?'	5 Ed io a dire: Sono stato cacciato lungi dallo sguardo degli occhi tuoi; eppure potrò contemplare ancora il tuo santo tempio.
6 The waters round me rose to my neck, the deep was closing round me, seaweed twining round myhead.	6 Le acque mi hanno accerchiato fino all'anima, l'abisso mi s'è serrato d'intorno, il mare ha coperto il mio capo.
7 To the roots of the mountains, I sank into the underworld, and its bars closed round me for ever. But youraised my life from the Pit, Yahweh my God!	7 Sono sceso fino ai fondamenti delle montagne, le sbarre della terra mi han rinchiuso per sempre; ma tu farai risalire dalla corruzione la mia vita, o Signore mio Dio.
8 When my soul was growing ever weaker, Yahweh, I remembered you, and my prayer reached you inyour holy Temple.	8 Nelle angustie dell'anima mia mi son ricordato del Signore, perchè giunga a te la mia preghiera, al tuo santo tempio.
9 Some abandon their faithful love by worshipping false gods,	9 Coloro che osservano inutili vanità abbandonano la loro misericordia.
10 but I shal sacrifice to you with songs of praise. The vow I have made I shall fulfil! Salvation comesfrom Yahweh!	10 Ma io con accenti di lode ti offrirò sacrifizi, e adempirò tutti i voti che ho fatti al Signore per la salvezza ».
11 Yahweh spoke to the fish, which then vomited Jonah onto the dry land.	11 E il Signore ne diede gli ordini al pesce e questo vomitò Giona alla spiaggia.
