Jonah 2

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Now Yahweh ordained that a great fish should swal ow Jonah; and Jonah remained in the bel y of thefish for three days and three nights.	1 E Giona fece orazione al Signore Iddio suo, dentro alle interiora del pesce.
2 From the bel y of the fish, Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God; he said:	2 E disse: Io ho gridato al Signore dalla mia distretta, Ed egli mi ha risposto; Io ho sclamato dal ventre del sepolcro, E tu hai udita la mia voce.
3 Out of my distress I cried to Yahweh and he answered me, from the bel y of Sheol I cried out; you heardmy voice!	3 Tu mi hai gettato al fondo, nel cuor del mare; E la corrente mi ha circondato; Tutti i tuoi flutti, e le tue onde, mi son passate addosso.
4 For you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods closed round me. Al yourwaves and bil ows passed over me;	4 Ed io ho detto: Io sono scacciato d’innanzi agli occhi tuoi; Ma pure io vedrò ancora il Tempio della tua santità.
5 then I thought, 'I am banished from your sight; how shal I ever see your holy Temple again?'	5 Le acque mi hanno intorniato infino all’anima, L’abisso mi ha circondato, L’alga mi si è avvinghiata intorno al capo.
6 The waters round me rose to my neck, the deep was closing round me, seaweed twining round myhead.	6 Io son disceso fino alle radici de’ monti; Le sbarre della terra son sopra me in perpetuo; Ma tu hai tratta fuor della fossa la vita mia, O Signore Iddio mio.
7 To the roots of the mountains, I sank into the underworld, and its bars closed round me for ever. But youraised my life from the Pit, Yahweh my God!	7 Quando l’anima mia si veniva meno in me, Io ho ricordato il Signore; E la mia orazione è pervenuta a te, Nel Tempio della tua santità.
8 When my soul was growing ever weaker, Yahweh, I remembered you, and my prayer reached you inyour holy Temple.	8 Quelli che osservano le vanità di menzogna Abbandonano la lor pietà;
9 Some abandon their faithful love by worshipping false gods,	9 Ma io, con voce di lode, ti sacrificherò; Io adempierò i voti che ho fatti; Il salvare appartiene al Signore
10 but I shal sacrifice to you with songs of praise. The vow I have made I shall fulfil! Salvation comesfrom Yahweh!	10 Il Signore disse al pesce, che sgorgasse Giona in su l’asciutto; e così fece
11 Yahweh spoke to the fish, which then vomited Jonah onto the dry land.
