Jonah 2

NEW JERUSALEM	VULGATA
1 Now Yahweh ordained that a great fish should swal ow Jonah; and Jonah remained in the bel y of thefish for three days and three nights.	1 Et præparavit Dominus piscem grandem ut deglutiret Jonam : et erat Jonas in ventre piscis tribus diebus et tribus noctibus.
2 From the bel y of the fish, Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God; he said:	2 Et oravit Jonas ad Dominum Deum suum de ventre piscis,
3 Out of my distress I cried to Yahweh and he answered me, from the bel y of Sheol I cried out; you heardmy voice!	3 et dixit : Clamavi de tribulatione mea ad Dominum, et exaudivit me ; de ventre inferi clamavi, et exaudisti vocem meam.
4 For you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods closed round me. Al yourwaves and bil ows passed over me;	4 Et projecisti me in profundum in corde maris, et flumen circumdedit me : omnes gurgites tui, et fluctus tui super me transierunt.
5 then I thought, 'I am banished from your sight; how shal I ever see your holy Temple again?'	5 Et ego dixi : Abjectus sum a conspectu oculorum tuorum ; verumtamen rursus videbo templum sanctum tuum.
6 The waters round me rose to my neck, the deep was closing round me, seaweed twining round myhead.	6 Circumdederunt me aquæ usque ad animam : abyssus vallavit me, pelagus operuit caput meum.
7 To the roots of the mountains, I sank into the underworld, and its bars closed round me for ever. But youraised my life from the Pit, Yahweh my God!	7 Ad extrema montium descendi ; terræ vectes concluserunt me in æternum : et sublevabis de corruptione vitam meam, Domine Deus meus.
8 When my soul was growing ever weaker, Yahweh, I remembered you, and my prayer reached you inyour holy Temple.	8 Cum angustiaretur in me anima mea, Domini recordatus sum : ut veniat ad te oratio mea, ad templum sanctum tuum.
9 Some abandon their faithful love by worshipping false gods,	9 Qui custodiunt vanitates frustra, misericordiam suam derelinquunt.
10 but I shal sacrifice to you with songs of praise. The vow I have made I shall fulfil! Salvation comesfrom Yahweh!	10 Ego autem in voce laudis immolabo tibi : quæcumque vovi, reddam pro salute Domino.
11 Yahweh spoke to the fish, which then vomited Jonah onto the dry land.	11 Et dixit Dominus pisci, et evomuit Jonam in aridam.
