NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.	1 La sapienza è il libro dei comandamenti di Dio e la legge che dura in eterno: tutti quelli che s'attengono ad essa giungeranno alla vita, quelli che l'abbandonano precipitano nella morte.
2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:	2 Convertiti, o Giacobbe, e abbracciala, cammina per la via al suo splendore che vien dalla sua luce.
3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.	3 Non dare ad altri la tua gloria, e la tua dignità a nazione straniera.
4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!	4 Noi siam beati, o Israele, perchè ciò che piace a Dio ci è stato rivelato.
5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!	5 Fatti coraggio, o popolo di Dio, o Israele degno di monumento.
6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,	6 Siete stati venduti alle nazioni, non per essere annientati, ma perchè nello sdegno provocaste a sdegno Dio, siete stati dati in potere dei nemici.
7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.	7 Infatti voi esacerbaste colui che vi ha creati, l'eterno Dio, immolando ai demoni e non a Dio.
8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,	8 Vi dimenticaste di Dio che vi ha nutriti, e contristaste la nutrice vostra, Gerusalemme.
9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.	9 Essa vide piombare sopra di voi l'ira di Dio, e disse: Udite, o terre vicine a Sion: Dio m'ha mandato un gran dolore:
10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.	10 ho veduto il mio popolo, i miei figli, le mie figlie nell'esilio al quale li ha condannati l'Eterno.
11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.	11 Li avevo allevati con gioia, li ho lasciati con pianto e con dolore.
12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,	12 Nessuno si rallegri nel vedermi vedova e desolata! Son rimasta abbandonata da molti per i peccati dei miei figli, chè si allontanarono dalla legge di Dio,
13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.	13 non conobbero i suoi precetti, non camminaron per le vie dei comandamenti di Dio e non entrarono con giustizia nei sentieri della sua verità.
14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.	14 Vengan le vicine di Sion, ricordino la schiavitù dei miei figli e delle mie figlie, alla quale li ha condannati l'Eterno.
15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;	15 Fu infatti lui che fece venire contro di essi una nazione da lontano, una nazione perversa, d'altra lingua,
16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.	16 che non ebbe rispetto pei vecchi nè compassione pei fanciulli, e menò via i diletti della vedova, e mi ha lasciata desolata e priva di figli.
17 For my part, how could I help you?	17 Ed io come posso aiutarvi?
18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.	18 Colui che ha fatto venire sopra di voi i mali, egli stesso vi libererà dalle mani dei vostri nemici.
19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;	19 Andate, figli, andate, che io me ne resterò sola.
20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.	20 Ho messo da parte il manto della pace ed ho indossato il cilizio della supplica, ed alzerò le grida all'Altissimo per tutti i giorni della mia vita.
21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;	21 Coraggio, o miei figli: gridate al Signore, ed Egli vi libererà dal potere dei principi nemici.
22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.	22 Io ho imposta la mia speranza nell'Eterno, vostra salvezza, e il Santo mi ha fatto gioire per la misericordia che verrà a voi dall'Eterno, vostro salvatore.
23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.	23 Vi ho lasciati partire nel dolore e nel pianto, ma il Signore vi ricondurrà a me nella gioia, nell'allegrezza, per sempre.
24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.	24 E come le vicine di Sion videro venire da Dio il vostro esilio, così vedran presto venir da Dio la vostra salvezza, che vi arriverà con grande gloria e con eterno splendore.
25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.	25 Figlioli, sopportate con pazienza l'ira che v'è piombata addosso: il vostro nemico v'ha perseguitati, ma ben presto ne vedrete la rovina, e metterete il piede sopra la sua testa.
26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.	26 i miei (figli più) delicati han dovuto battere aspre strade; sono stati portati via come gregge rapito dai nemici.
27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.	27 Coraggio, o figlioli, alzate le vostre grida al Signore, che si ricorderà di voi colui che v'ha fatto deportare;
28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;	28 e come vi fu la vostra volontà nell'andar lungi da Dio, con ardore dieci volte più grande lo cercherete convertiti.
29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.	29 Colui che vi mandò questi mali, Egli stesso col darvi la vostra salvezza, vi manderà una gioia sempiterna.
30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.	30 Fatti coraggio, o Gerusalemme, ti esorta colui che t'ha dato il nome.
31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .	31 Periranno i malfattori che ti straziarono, e quelli che si son rallegrati della tua rovina saran puniti,
32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,	32 saran castigate le città alle quali servirono i tuoi figli, e quella che ritenne seco i tuoi figlioli.
33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.	33 Come si rallegrò della tua rovina, e fece festa per la tua caduta, così sarà contristata dalla propria desolazione.
34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;	34 E le sarà tolta la gioia della sua moltitudine, e la sua allegria sarà cangiata in lutto.
35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.	35 Un fuoco sarà mandato sopra di lei dall'Eterno per lunghi giorni, ed essa per lungo tempo sarà abitata dai demoni.
36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.	36 Guarda dalla parte dell'Oriente, o Gerusalemme, e guarda la gioia che ti viene da Dio:
37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.	37 ecco che ritornano i tuoi figli che tu lasciasti andare dispersi, vengono radunati dall'Oriente all'Occidente alla parola del Santo, pieni di gioia per la gloria di Dio.
