NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.	1 Essa è il libro dei decreti di Dio e la legge che sussiste in eterno; tutti coloro che si attengono ad essa avranno la vita, quanti l’abbandonano moriranno.
2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:	2 Ritorna, Giacobbe, e accoglila, cammina allo splendore della sua luce.
3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.	3 Non dare a un altro la tua gloria né i tuoi privilegi a una nazione straniera.
4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!	4 Beati siamo noi, o Israele, perché ciò che piace a Dio è da noi conosciuto.
5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!	5 Coraggio, popolo mio, tu, memoria d’Israele!
6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,	6 Siete stati venduti alle nazioni non per essere annientati, ma perché avete fatto adirare Dio siete stati consegnati ai nemici.
7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.	7 Avete irritato il vostro creatore, sacrificando a dèmoni e non a Dio.
8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,	8 Avete dimenticato chi vi ha allevati, il Dio eterno, avete afflitto anche colei che vi ha nutriti, Gerusalemme.
9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.	9 Essa ha visto piombare su di voi l’ira divina e ha esclamato: «Ascoltate, città vicine di Sion, Dio mi ha mandato un grande dolore.
10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.	10 Ho visto, infatti, la schiavitù in cui l’Eterno ha condotto i miei figli e le mie figlie.
11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.	11 Io li avevo nutriti con gioia e li ho lasciati andare con pianto e dolore.
12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,	12 Nessuno goda di me nel vedermi vedova e abbandonata da molti; sono stata lasciata sola per i peccati dei miei figli, perché hanno deviato dalla legge di Dio,
13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.	13 non hanno riconosciuto i suoi decreti, non hanno seguito i suoi comandamenti, non hanno proceduto per i sentieri della dottrina, secondo la sua giustizia.
14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.	14 Venite, o città vicine di Sion, ricordatevi la schiavitù in cui l’Eterno ha condotto i miei figli e le mie figlie.
15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;	15 Ha mandato contro di loro una nazione da lontano, una nazione malvagia di lingua straniera, che non ha avuto rispetto dei vecchi né pietà dei bambini.
16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.	16 Hanno strappato via i prediletti della vedova e l’hanno lasciata sola, senza figlie».
17 For my part, how could I help you?	17 E io come posso aiutarvi?
18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.	18 Chi vi ha afflitto con tanti mali saprà liberarvi dalle mani dei vostri nemici.
19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;	19 Andate, figli miei, andate, io sono rimasta sola.
20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.	20 Ho deposto l’abito di pace, ho indossato la veste di sacco per la supplica, griderò all’Eterno per tutti i miei giorni.
21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;	21 Coraggio, figli miei, gridate a Dio, ed egli vi libererà dall’oppressione e dalle mani dei nemici.
22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.	22 Io, infatti, ho sperato dall’Eterno la vostra salvezza e una grande gioia mi è venuta dal Santo, per la misericordia che presto vi giungerà dall’Eterno, vostro salvatore.
23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.	23 Vi ho lasciati andare con dolore e pianto, ma Dio vi ricondurrà a me con letizia e gioia, per sempre.
24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.	24 Come ora le città vicine di Sion vedono la vostra schiavitù, così ben presto vedranno la salvezza che vi giungerà dal vostro Dio; essa verrà a voi con grande gloria e splendore dell’Eterno.
25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.	25 Figli, sopportate con pazienza la collera che da Dio è venuta su di voi. Il tuo nemico ti ha perseguitato, ma vedrai ben presto la sua rovina e gli calpesterai la nuca.
26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.	26 I miei teneri figli hanno camminato per aspri sentieri, sono stati portati via come gregge rapito dal nemico.
27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.	27 Coraggio, figli, gridate a Dio, poiché si ricorderà di voi colui che vi ha afflitti.
28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;	28 Però, come pensaste di allontanarvi da Dio, così, ritornando, decuplicate lo zelo per ricercarlo;
29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.	29 perché chi vi ha afflitto con tanti mali vi darà anche, con la vostra salvezza, una gioia perenne.
30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.	30 Coraggio, Gerusalemme! Colui che ti ha dato un nome ti consolerà.
31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .	31 Sventurati coloro che ti hanno fatto del male, che hanno goduto della tua caduta;
32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,	32 sventurate le città in cui sono stati schiavi i tuoi figli, sventurata colei che li ha trattenuti.
33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.	33 Come ha gioito per la tua caduta e si è allietata per la tua rovina, così si affliggerà per la sua solitudine.
34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;	34 Le toglierò l’esultanza di essere così popolata, la sua insolenza sarà cambiata in dolore.
35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.	35 Un fuoco cadrà su di essa per lunghi giorni per volere dell’Eterno, e per molto tempo sarà abitata da dèmoni.
36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.	36 Guarda a oriente, Gerusalemme, osserva la gioia che ti viene da Dio.
37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.	37 Ecco, ritornano i figli che hai visto partire, ritornano insieme riuniti, dal sorgere del sole al suo tramonto, alla parola del Santo, esultanti per la gloria di Dio.
