NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.	1 - Questo è il libro dei comandamenti di Dio, e la legge che sussiste in eterno! Tutti quelli che ad essa si attengono, giungono alla vita, e quelli che l'abbandonano, vanno alla morte.
2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:	2 Ritorna, Giacobbe, e riafferrala, avanzati sotto il suo splendore, dietro il suo lume.
3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.	3 Non cedere ad altri la tua gloria, nè i tuoi privilegi, a gente straniera.
4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!	4 Noi beati, noi Israele, perchè ciò che piace a Dio a noi è manifesto.
5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!	5 Fate animo, o popolo di Dio, o sacre memorie d'Israele!
6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,	6 Siete stati venduti alle gentinon a vostra perdizione; ma avendo voi cimentato l'ira di Dio, per questo foste dati in potere degli avversari.
7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.	7 Sì, avete irritato colui che vi fece, il Dio eterno, andando a sacrificare ai demoni e non a lui; avete dimenticato Dio che vi allevò, avete contristato colei che vi nutrì, Gerusalemme.
8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,	8 Or essa, che fu spettatrice dei castighirovesciati da Dio su di voi, essa vi parla:
9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.	9 «Udite, o sobborghi di Sion, il Signore mi ha inflitto un lutto grande.
10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.	10 Ho dovuto vedere la schiavitù del mio popolo, dei miei figli e delle mie figlieche l'Eterno fece piombare addosso a loro.
11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.	11 Li aveva allevati in mezzo alla gioia e li vidi partire nel pianto e nel duolo.
12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,	12 Nessuno goda di vedermi vedova e desolata; pur troppo di molti sono stata privata, pei peccati dei figli miei, perchè si sviarono dalla legge di Dio.
13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.	13 Avevano misconosciuto i suoi statuti, e non camminarono sulla strada dei comandamenti di Dio, e per le vie della sua verità non procedettero con giustizia.
14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.	14 Vengano i suburbani di Sion a commemorare la schiavitù dei miei figli e delle mie figlie, che addusse su di loro l'Eterno.
15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;	15 Perchè vi scatenò contro una gente di lontano, una gente senza ritegno, di barbara loquela, che non rispettò l'età senile e dei pargoli non sentì pietà.
16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.	16 E strapparono alla vedova i cari suoi e privatala della figliolanza, sola la lasciarono.
17 For my part, how could I help you?	17 Ed io come potrei aiutarvi?
18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.	18 Colui che su di voi adunò i maliegli vi trarrà dalle mani dei vostri nemici.
19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;	19 Andatevene, figliuoli, andatevene! e io me ne resterò qui sola.
20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.	20 Ho deposto l'indumento festivoe ho indossato il cilicio implorante pietà, e alzerò il mio grido verso l'Altissimo tutti i giorni miei.
21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;	21 Fatevi animo, figliuoli, invocate il Signore, e vi strapperà dalle mani dei principi vostri nemici.
22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.	22 Io ho sperato la salvezza vostra dall'Eterno, e la gioia mi viene da parte del Santo, per la misericordiache giungerà a voi dall'Eterno, nostro salvatore.
23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.	23 Vi ho visti partire nel duolo e nel pianto, e il Signore vi ricondurrà a me nella gioia e nell'allegrezza che saranno per sempre.
24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.	24 Perchè, come le vicine di Sion hanno visto la vostra schiavitù giungere da Dio, così da Dio vedranno presto la vostra liberazione giungere a voi, con onore grande e splendore eterno.
25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.	25 Figliuoli, sopportate con pazienza l'ira che è venuta su di voi; il tuo nemico ti ha perseguitato, ma vedrai presto la sua ruinae alzerai il piede sulla sua cervice.
26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.	26 Oh, i miei cari figli s'incamminarono per vie scabrose, furon trascinati come gregge depredato dai nemici!
27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.	27 Ma fatevi animo, figliuoli, e alzate il vostro grido al Signore, è rimasta di voi memoria presso colui che vi condusse via.
28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;	28 Perchè, come avete fatto il pensiero di sbandarvi da Dio, così, dieci volte più ardentemente tornando, lo ricercherete.
29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.	29 Sì, colui che adunò su di voi i mali, adunerà su di voi eterne gioie, col darvi la salvezza».
30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.	30 Fatti animo, o Gerusalemme, chi ti ha dato il suo nome ti esorta.
31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .	31 Periranno quei disgraziati che ti maltrattaronoe quei che si rallegrarono della tua ruina saranno puniti;
32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,	32 le città dove furono servi i tuoi nati saranno castigate, insieme a quella che ritenne i figli tuoi.
33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.	33 Come ha goduto della tua ruina e si è rallegrata della tua caduta, così piangerà nella sua propria desolazione.
34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;	34 Sarà troncata l'esultanza della sua moltitudine, il suo tripudio si convertirà in lutto.
35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.	35 Un fuoco le sopravverrà dall'Eterno, per lunghi giornie sarà abitata da esseri diabolici per un tempo molto lungo.
36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.	36 Volgi l'occhio ad oriente, o Gerusalemme, e guarda la letizia che ti viene da Dio!
37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.	37 Ecco che rivengono i figli tuoi che hai visti partire in dispersione, vengono insieme riuniti dall'oriente e dall'occidente, sulla parola del Santo, esultanti della gloria di Dio!
