Baruch 4

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.	1 Elle est le Livre des préceptes de Dieu, la Loi qui subsiste éternellement: quiconque la garde vivra,quiconque l'abandonne mourra.
2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:	2 Reviens, Jacob, saisis-la, marche vers la splendeur, à sa lumière:
3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.	3 ne cède pas à autrui ta gloire, à un peuple étranger tes privilèges.
4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!	4 Heureux sommes-nous, Israël: ce qui plaît à Dieu nous fut révélé!
5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!	5 Courage, mon peuple, mémorial d'Israël!
6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,	6 Vous avez été vendus aux nations, mais non pour l'anéantissement. Ayant excité la colère de Dieu,vous avez été livrés à vos ennemis.
7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.	7 Car vous aviez irrité votre Créateur en sacrifiant à des démons et non à Dieu.
8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,	8 Vous aviez oublié le Dieu éternel, votre nourricier! Vous avez aussi attristé Jérusalem, votrenourricière;
9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.	9 elle a vu fondre sur vous la colère venue de Dieu et elle a dit: Ecoutez, voisines de Sion: Dieu m'aenvoyé grande tristesse.
10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.	10 J'ai vu la captivité de mes fils et filles que l'Eternel leur amena.
11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.	11 Je les avais nourris avec joie; avec pleurs et tristesse je les vis partir.
12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,	12 Que nul ne se réjouisse sur moi, veuve et délaissée d'un grand nombre; je subis la solitude pour lespéchés de mes enfants, car ils se sont détournés de la Loi de Dieu,
13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.	13 ils n'ont point connu ses préceptes, ni marché par les voies de ses préceptes, ni suivi les sentiers dediscipline selon sa justice.
14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.	14 Qu'elles arrivent, les voisines de Sion! Rappelez-vous la captivité de mes fils et filles que l'Eternelleur amena!
15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;	15 Car il amena sur eux une nation lointaine, une nation effrontée, à la langue barbare, sans respectpour le vieillard, sans pitié pour le petit enfant;
16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.	16 on emmena les fils chéris de la veuve, on la laissa toute seule, privée de ses filles.
17 For my part, how could I help you?	17 Moi, comment pourrais-je vous aider?
18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.	18 Celui qui vous amena ces malheurs, c'est lui qui vous arrachera aux mains de vos ennemis.
19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;	19 Allez, mes enfants, allez votre chemin! Moi, je reste délaissée, solitaire;
20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.	20 j'ai quitté la robe de paix et revêtu le sac de ma supplication; je veux crier vers l'Eternel tant que jevivrai.
21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;	21 Courage, mes enfants, criez vers Dieu: il vous arrachera à la violence et à la main de vos ennemis;
22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.	22 car j'attends de l'Eternel votre salut, une joie m'est venue du Saint, pour la miséricorde qui bientôtvous arrivera de l'Eternel, votre Sauveur.
23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.	23 Car avec tristesse et pleurs je vous ai vus partir, mais Dieu vous rendra à moi pour toujours dans lajoie et la jubilation.
24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.	24 Comme les voisines de Sion voient maintenant votre captivité, ainsi verront-elles bientôt votresalut de par Dieu, qui vous surviendra avec grande gloire et éclat de l'Eternel.
25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.	25 Mes enfants, supportez la colère qui de Dieu vous est venue. Ton ennemi t'a persécuté, mais bientôttu verras sa ruine et sur sa nuque tu poseras ton pied.
26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.	26 Mes enfants choyés ont marché par de rudes chemins, enlevés, tel un troupeau razzié par l'ennemi.
27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.	27 Courage, mes enfants, criez vers Dieu: Celui qui vous amena cela se souviendra de vous.
28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;	28 Comme votre pensée fut d'égarement loin de Dieu, revenus à lui, recherchez-le dix fois plus fort.
29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.	29 Car Celui qui vous amena ces malheurs vous ramènera, en vous sauvant, la joie éternelle.
30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.	30 Courage, Jérusalem: il te consolera, Celui qui t'a donné un nom.
31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .	31 Malheur à ceux qui t'ont maltraitée et se sont réjouis de ta chute!
32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,	32 Malheur aux cités dont furent esclaves tes enfants, malheur à celle qui reçut tes fils!
33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.	33 Car de même qu'elle se réjouit de ta chute et fut heureuse de ta ruine, ainsi sera-t-elle affligée poursa propre dévastation.
34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;	34 Je lui ôterai son allégresse de ville bien peuplée, son insolence se changera en tristesse,
35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.	35 un feu lui surviendra de l'Eternel pour de longs jours, elle sera la demeure de démons pourlongtemps.
36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.	36 Jérusalem, regarde vers l'Orient, vois la joie qui te vient de Dieu.
37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.	37 Voici: ils reviennent, les fils que tu vis partir, ils reviennent rassemblés du levant au couchant, surl'ordre du Saint, jubilants de la gloire de Dieu.
