NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.	1 Questo è il libro dei comandamenti di Dio e la legge che rimane in perpetuo; chiunque la possiede vivrà, chiunque l'abbandona perirà.
2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:	2 Ritorna, o Giacobbe, e accoglila, cammina allo splendore della sua luce.
3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.	3 Non dare ad altri la tua gloria né a nazione straniera i tuoi privilegi.
4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!	4 Noi beati, o Israele, perché ciò che piace a Dio a noi è noto.
5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!	5 Coraggio, popolo mio, memoriale di Israele!
6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,	6 Foste venduti alle nazioni non per la distruzione, ma perché irritaste Dio foste consegnati ai nemici vostri.
7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.	7 Avete esacerbato, infatti, il vostro Creatore sacrificando ai dèmoni e non a Dio.
8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,	8 Avete dimenticato chi vi ha nutrito, il Dio eterno, e contristato anche colei che vi nutrì, Gerusalemme!
9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.	9 Vide, infatti, arrivare a voi l'ira di Dio e disse: Ascoltate, o città vicine di Sion, Dio mi ha addossato un lutto grande.
10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.	10 Ho visto, infatti, la schiavitù dei figli miei e delle figlie che procurò loro l'Eterno!
11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.	11 Li avevo nutriti con gioia, ma li allontanai con pianto e lutto.
12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,	12 Nessuno si rallegri per me vedova e abbandonata da molti; sono desolata per i peccati dei miei figli, perché deviarono dalla legge di Dio.
13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.	13 Non riconobbero i suoi precetti né seguirono i comandamenti di Dio, né i sentieri della disciplina, secondo la sua giustizia, intrapresero.
14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.	14 Venite, o vicine di Sion, e considerate la schiavitù dei figli miei e delle figlie che procurò loro l'Eterno!
15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;	15 Ha condotto contro di essi una nazione lontana, una nazione crudele e d'altra lingua; non rispettarono il vecchio né ebbero pietà del fanciullo.
16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.	16 Strapparono i prediletti alla vedova e la lasciarono sola, priva delle figlie.
17 For my part, how could I help you?	17 Io, dunque, come potrei aiutarvi?
18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.	18 Colui, però, che procura i mali contro di voi, dalle mani dei vostri nemici vi libererà.
19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;	19 Andatevene, figlie, andatevene, poiché io sono rimasta sola.
20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.	20 Ho tolto la veste di pace, ho indossato il sacco della mia supplica, voglio gridare all'Eterno per tutti i giorni miei.
21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;	21 Coraggio, figli, invocate Dio e vi libererà dall'oppressione, dalla mano dei nemici.
22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.	22 Io, infatti, spero dall'Eterno la salvezza vostra. Una gioia venne a me dal Santo per la misericordia che presto verrà dall'Eterno, vostro salvatore.
23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.	23 Vi vidi partire con lutto e pianto ma Dio vi restituirà a me con allegrezza e gioia, per sempre.
24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.	24 Come ora, infatti, le vicine di Sion han visto la schiavitù vostra, così presto vedranno la salvezza che a voi verrà da parte di Dio, con gloria grande e splendore dell'Eterno.
25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.	25 Figli, sopportate l'ira che vi è sopraggiunta da parte di Dio; ti ha perseguitato il tuo nemico, ma presto vedrai la sua rovina e sul loro collo tu camminerai.
26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.	26 I miei piccoli delicati percorsero vie scabrose, prelevati come un gregge rapito dai nemici.
27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.	27 Coraggio, figli, e invocate Dio, poiché si ricorderà di voi chi vi fece condurre via.
28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;	28 Come, infatti, fu vostro pensiero allontanarvi da Dio, così convertendovi decuplicate lo zelo nel cercarlo.
29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.	29 Poiché chi vi arrecò questi mali vi porterà gioia eterna con la vostra salvezza.
30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.	30 Coraggio, Gerusalemme, ti consolerà chi ti dette il nome.
31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .	31 Guai a coloro che ti danneggiarono e gioirono per la tua caduta!
32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,	32 Guai alle città dove i tuoi nati furono schiavi! Guai a colei che trattenne i figli tuoi!
33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.	33 Come, infatti, godette per la tua caduta e si rallegrò per la tua rovina, così si rattristerà per la sua desolazione.
34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;	34 Le toglierò la gioia della sua grande popolazione e il suo tripudio lo trasformerò in lutto.
35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.	35 Fuoco, infatti, l'avvolgerà per molti giorni da parte dell'Eterno, e sarà abitata da dèmoni per lungo tempo.
36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.	36 Osserva a oriente, o Gerusalemme, e contempla la gioia che ti viene da Dio.
37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.	37 Ecco: arrivano i figli tuoi che lasciasti partire, arrivano riuniti da oriente a occidente per la parola del Santo, esultanti nella gloria di Dio.
