NEW JERUSALEMDOUAI-RHEIMS
The vision of Isaiah son of Amoz, concerning Judah and Jerusalem.1 The word that Isaias the son of Amos saw, concerning Juda and Jerusalem.
It wil happen in the final days that the mountain of Yahweh's house wil rise higher than the mountainsand tower above the heights. Then al the nations will stream to it,2 And in the last days the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be prepared on the top of mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall flow unto it.
many peoples will come to it and say, 'Come, let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh, to the house ofthe God of Jacob that he may teach us his ways so that we may walk in his paths.' For the Law wil issue fromZion and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.3 And many people shall go, and say: Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob, and he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall come forth from Sion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
Then he wil judge between the nations and arbitrate between many peoples. They wil hammer theirswords into ploughshares and their spears into sickles. Nation wil not lift sword against nation, no longer wilthey learn how to make war.4 And he shall judge the Gentiles, and rebuke many people: and they shall turn their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into sickles: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they be exercised any more to war.
House of Jacob, come, let us walk in Yahweh's light.5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.
You have rejected your people, the House of Jacob, for it has long been ful of sorcerers like thePhilistines, and is overrun with foreigners.6 For thou hast cast off thy people, the house of Jacob: because they are filled as in times past, and have had soothsayers as the Philistines, and have adhered to strange children.
The country is ful of silver and gold and treasures unlimited, the country is ful of horses, its chariots areunlimited;7 Their land is filled with silver and gold: and there is no end of their treasures.
the country is full of idols. They bow down before the work of their hands, before what their own fingershave made.8 And their land is filled with horses: and their chariots are innumerable. Their land also is full of idols: they have adored the work of their own hands, which their own fingers have made.
Human nature has been humbled, humankind brought low: do not raise them again!9 And man hath bowed himself down, and man hath been debased: therefore forgive them not.
Go into the rock, hide in the dust, in terror of Yahweh, at the bril iance of his majesty, when he arises tomake the earth quake.10 Enter thou into the rock, and hide thee in the pit from the face of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty.
Human pride wil lower its eyes, human arrogance will be humbled, and Yahweh alone wil be exalted,on that day.11 The lofty eyes of man are humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be made to stoop: and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.
That wil be a day for Yahweh Sabaoth, for all who are majestic and haughty, for al who are proud, tobe brought low,12 Because the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and highminded, and upon every one that is arrogant, and he shall be humbled.
for all the cedars of Lebanon, high and proud, and for al the oaks of Bashan;13 And upon all the tall and lofty cedars of Libanus, and upon all the oaks of Basan.
for all the high mountains and for al the proud hil s;14 And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the elevated hills.
for every lofty tower and for every towering wal ;15 And upon every high tower, and every fenced wall.
for all the ships of Tarshish and for everything held precious.16 And upon all the ships of Tharsis, and upon all that is fair to behold.
Human pride wil be humbled, human arrogance brought low, and Yahweh alone wil be exalted, on thatday.17 And the loftiness of men shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be humbled, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.
When the idols al disappear,18 And idols shall be utterly destroyed.
they wil go into the caverns of the rocks and into the fissures of the earth in terror of Yahweh, at thebrilliance of his majesty, when he arises to make the earth quake.19 And they shall go into the holes of rocks, and into the caves of the earth from the face of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he shall rise up to strike the earth.
That day, people wil fling to moles and bats the silver idols and golden idols which have been made forthem to worship,20 In that day a man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which he had made for himself to adore, moles and bats.
and go into the crevices of the rocks and the clefts in the cliffs, in terror of Yahweh, at the brilliance ofhis majesty, when he arises to make the earth quake.21 ,21And he shall go into the clefts of rocks, and into the holes of stones from the face of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he shall rise up to strike the earth.
Have no more to do with humankind, which has only the breath in its nostrils. How much is this worth?22 Cease ye therefore from the man, whose breath is in his nostrils, for he is reputed high.
