Sirach 32

NEW JERUSALEM	Sacra Bibbia Garofalo
1 Have they made you the presider? Do not let it go to your head, behave like everyone else in the party,see that they are happy and then sit down yourself.	1 Se ti hanno messo a capo, non insuperbirti ma sii per essi come uno di loro. Interessati di loro e poi ti metterai a sedere;
2 Having discharged your duties, take your place so that your joy may be through theirs, and you mayreceive the crown for your competence.	2 prepara loro il necessario e poi accomodati, affinché ti rallegri del loro decoro ed essi ti stimino per il tratto;
3 Speak, old man -- it is proper that you should -- but with discretion: do not spoil the music.	3 A te la parola, o vecchio. Sii assennato e modesto e non impedire il canto;
4 If someone is singing, do not ramble on and do not play the sage at the wrong moment.	4 dove si beve il vino, non sprecare le parole e non mostrarti saggio inopportunamente.
5 An amber seal on a precious stone, such is a concert of music at a wine feast.	5 Piccola gemma di fuoco in fregio d’oro: tale un ritmo di canto nel convito;
6 An emerald seal in a golden setting, such are strains of music with a vintage wine.	6 sigillo di smeraldo in castone d’oro: così le amene conversazioni e il dolce vino.
7 Speak, young man, when you must, but twice at most, and then only if questioned.	7 Parla, o giovane, ma se ne sei richiesto; se ti si prega con impegno, due o tre volte.
8 Keep to the point, say much in few words; give the impression of knowing but not wanting to speak.	8 Sintetizza il discorso e di’ molto con poco; sii come colui che sa, ma che ugualmente tace.
9 Among eminent people do not behave as though you were their equal; do not make frivolous remarkswhen someone else is speaking.	9 Tra i grandi non far mostra di te; dove ci sono vecchi non parlare molto.
10 Lightning comes before the thunder, favour goes ahead of a modest person.	10 Prima della grandine brilla la folgore; la grazia precede il verecondo.
11 Leave in good time, do not bring up the rear, and hurry home without loitering.	11 Venuta l’ora, levati, non indugiare; vattene a casa e fa’ ciò che vuoi.
12 There amuse yourself, and do what you have a mind to, but do not sin by arrogant talk.	12 Là divertiti e fa’ ciò che ti passa per la mente nel timor di Dio e non con insipienza.
13 And for all this bless your Creator, who intoxicates you with his favours.	13 Soprattutto, benedici il tuo creatore che ti sazia della sua bontà.
14 Whoever fears the Lord wil accept his correction; those who look for him wil win his favour.	14 Chi cerca Dio ne accoglie la correzione; chi si volge a lui viene esaudito.
15 Whoever seeks the Law wil be nourished by it, the hypocrite will find it a stumbling-block.	15 Chi ricerca la legge ne consegue l'intelligenza; chi simula rimane impigliato in essa.
16 Those who fear the Lord win his approval, their good deeds shining like a light.	16 Chi teme Jahvè ne comprende l’agire ed esprime dal proprio cuore molta sapienza.
17 The sinner waves reproof aside, he finds an excuse for headstrong behaviour.	17 L’uomo violento evita la correzione e tira la legge secondo il proprio volere.
18 A sensible person never scorns a warning; foreigners and the proud do not know about fear.	18 L’uomo sapiente non nasconde la sapienza e l’uomo sprezzante non custodisce la lingua. L’uomo sapiente non riceve regali e l’arrogante protervo non custodisce la legge.
19 Never act without reflection, and you wil not regret your actions.	19 Non fare nulla senza deliberazione, per non pentirtene a cose fatte.
20 Do not venture on a rough road, for fear of stumbling over the stones.	20 Non voler camminare per una via di insidie e non inciampare contro un intoppo.
21 Do not be over-confident on an even road	21 Non andare spensierato per una via di ladri e fa’ attenzione a ciò che potrà accaderti.
22 and beware of your own children.	22 Guardati in tutte le tue opere, perché chi fa così osserva il comandamento.
23 Watch yourself in everything you do; this is also the way to keep the commandments.	23 Chi osserva la legge custodisce se stesso è chi confida in Jahvè non rimarrà confuso.
24 Anyone who trusts in the Law obeys its precepts, no one who has confidence in the Lord wil come toharm.
