Sirach 32

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Have they made you the presider? Do not let it go to your head, behave like everyone else in the party,see that they are happy and then sit down yourself.	1 ¿Te toca presidir la mesa? No te envanezcas: compórtate con los demás como uno de ellos y atiéndelos bien antes de sentarte.
2 Having discharged your duties, take your place so that your joy may be through theirs, and you mayreceive the crown for your competence.	2 Una vez cumplido todo tu oficio, ocupa tu puesto para alegrarte a causa de los comensales y verte coronado porque todo está en orden.
3 Speak, old man -- it is proper that you should -- but with discretion: do not spoil the music.	3 Habla, anciano, porque te corresponde hacerlo, pero con discreción y sin interrumpir la música.
4 If someone is singing, do not ramble on and do not play the sage at the wrong moment.	4 Mientras se escucha, no te pongas a charlar ni te hagas el sabio fuera de tiempo
5 An amber seal on a precious stone, such is a concert of music at a wine feast.	5 Sello de rubí en una alhaja de oro es un concierto musical mientras se bebe vino;
6 An emerald seal in a golden setting, such are strains of music with a vintage wine.	6 sello de esmeralda en un engaste de oro es la música melodiosa sobre la dulzura del vino.
7 Speak, young man, when you must, but twice at most, and then only if questioned.	7 Habla, joven, cuando sea necesario, pero dos veces a lo más, y si te preguntan.
8 Keep to the point, say much in few words; give the impression of knowing but not wanting to speak.	8 Habla concisamente, di mucho en pocas palabras: sé como uno que sabe y sin embargo se calla.
9 Among eminent people do not behave as though you were their equal; do not make frivolous remarkswhen someone else is speaking.	9 En medio de los grandes, no pretendas igualarlos, y si otro habla, sé parco en tus palabras.
10 Lightning comes before the thunder, favour goes ahead of a modest person.	10 El relámpago brilla antes del trueno y el encanto precede al hombre modesto.
11 Leave in good time, do not bring up the rear, and hurry home without loitering.	11 Levántate a tiempo, se seas el último en irte, ve derecho a tu casa, sin entretenerte por el camino.
12 There amuse yourself, and do what you have a mind to, but do not sin by arrogant talk.	12 Diviértete allí como más te guste, pero sin pecar con palabras arrogantes.
13 And for all this bless your Creator, who intoxicates you with his favours.	13 Y por todo eso, bendice a tu Creador, que te embriaga con sus bienes.
14 Whoever fears the Lord wil accept his correction; those who look for him wil win his favour.	14 El que teme al Señor acepta ser instruido y los que lo buscan ardientemente alcanzarán su favor.
15 Whoever seeks the Law wil be nourished by it, the hypocrite will find it a stumbling-block.	15 El que busca la Ley se saciará de ella, pero al que finge observarla le sirve de tropiezo.
16 Those who fear the Lord win his approval, their good deeds shining like a light.	16 Los que temen al Señor descubren lo que es recto y hacen brillar sus preceptos como una lámpara.
17 The sinner waves reproof aside, he finds an excuse for headstrong behaviour.	17 El hombre pecador no tolera ningún reproche y encuentra pretextos para hacer lo que quiere.
18 A sensible person never scorns a warning; foreigners and the proud do not know about fear.	18 El hombre de consejo no descuida la reflexión; el impío y el arrogante proceden temerariamente.
19 Never act without reflection, and you wil not regret your actions.	19 No hagas nada sin el debido consejo y no te arrepentirás de tus acciones.
20 Do not venture on a rough road, for fear of stumbling over the stones.	20 No vayas por un camino lleno de obstáculos y no tropezarás contra las piedras.
21 Do not be over-confident on an even road	21 No te fíes del camino despejado
22 and beware of your own children.	22 y cuídate hasta de tus hijos.
23 Watch yourself in everything you do; this is also the way to keep the commandments.	23 En todo lo que hagas, sé fiel a ti mismo, porque también eso es observar los mandamientos.
24 Anyone who trusts in the Law obeys its precepts, no one who has confidence in the Lord wil come toharm.	24 El que confía en la Ley presta atención a los mandamientos y el que confía en el Señor no sufrirá menoscabo.
