Sirach 32

1 Have they made you the presider? Do not let it go to your head, behave like everyone else in the party,see that they are happy and then sit down yourself.	1 Se' tu fatto capo? non insuperbirti: sii tra di loro, come uno di loro.
2 Having discharged your duties, take your place so that your joy may be through theirs, and you mayreceive the crown for your competence.	2 Abbi cura di essi, e dopo che avrai pienamente soddisfatto all'ufficio tuo, va a metterti a tavola;
3 Speak, old man -- it is proper that you should -- but with discretion: do not spoil the music.	3 Affinchè eglino siano a te di allegrezza, e per decoroso ornamento tu riceva la corona, e ne ottenga l'onore delle porzioni messe a parte per te.
4 If someone is singing, do not ramble on and do not play the sage at the wrong moment.	4 Tu maggiore di età, cui si conviene di essere il primo a parlare, parla
5 An amber seal on a precious stone, such is a concert of music at a wine feast.	5 Con iscelta dottrina, e non disturbare l'armonia.
6 An emerald seal in a golden setting, such are strains of music with a vintage wine.	6 Dove non è chi ascolti, non buttar via le parole, e non volere a mal tempo far pompa di tua saggezza.
7 Speak, young man, when you must, but twice at most, and then only if questioned.	7 Un concerto di musica in un convito, dove si beve, è come un prezioso carbonchio legato in oro.
8 Keep to the point, say much in few words; give the impression of knowing but not wanting to speak.	8 L'armonia de' cantori col giocondo, e moderato bere, è come uno smeraldo incastrato in anello di oro.
9 Among eminent people do not behave as though you were their equal; do not make frivolous remarkswhen someone else is speaking.	9 Ascolta in silenzio, e colla tua ritenutezza ti concilierai amore.
10 Lightning comes before the thunder, favour goes ahead of a modest person.	10 Giovinetto parla al bisogno a mala pena.
11 Leave in good time, do not bring up the rear, and hurry home without loitering.	11 Interrogato due volte, ristrìngi in poco la tua risposta.
12 There amuse yourself, and do what you have a mind to, but do not sin by arrogant talk.	12 In molte cose diportati come ignorante, e ascolta tacendo, e domandando.
13 And for all this bless your Creator, who intoxicates you with his favours.	13 In mezzo ai grandi non ti azzardare, e dove sono vecchj, non parlar molto.
14 Whoever fears the Lord wil accept his correction; those who look for him wil win his favour.	14 La grandine è preceduta dal lampo, e la verecondia è preceduta dalla buona grazia, e la tua ritenutezza farà, che tu sii ben veduto.
15 Whoever seeks the Law wil be nourished by it, the hypocrite will find it a stumbling-block.	15 E quando è tempo di alzarti, non istare a bada: vattene il primo a tua casa, ed ivi divertiti, e scherza,
16 Those who fear the Lord win his approval, their good deeds shining like a light.	16 E fa quel, che ti piace, ma senza peccare, o parlar con superbia.
17 The sinner waves reproof aside, he finds an excuse for headstrong behaviour.	17 E dopo tutto questo benedici il Signore, che ti ha fatto, e ti inebria con tutti i suoi beni.
18 A sensible person never scorns a warning; foreigners and the proud do not know about fear.	18 Chi teme il Signore, abbraccerà gli insegnamenti di lui; e quelli, che di buon mattino lo cercano, troveranno benedizione.
19 Never act without reflection, and you wil not regret your actions.	19 Chi ama la legge, da lei sarà fatto ricco: ma chi opera con finzione, prenderà da lei occasione di inciampo.
20 Do not venture on a rough road, for fear of stumbling over the stones.	20 Quelli, che temono il Signore, sapran far giudizio di quello, che è giusto, e la loro giustizia sarà quasi accesa face.
21 Do not be over-confident on an even road	21 L'uom peccatore fugge la riprensione, e trova de' paragoni secondo la sua volontà.
22 and beware of your own children.	22 L'uomo, che ha prudenza, non trascura di ben riflettere: l'uomo, che non ne ha, e il superbo non teme mai nulla;
23 Watch yourself in everything you do; this is also the way to keep the commandments.	23 Anche dopo aver operato da se, senza consiglio; ma le sue stesse intra prese il condanneranno.
24 Anyone who trusts in the Law obeys its precepts, no one who has confidence in the Lord wil come toharm.	24 Figliuolo, non far cosa veruna senza consiglio, e non avrai da pentirti dopo il fatto.
	25 Non camminare per istrade rovinose, e non inciamperai nei sassi, e non ti impegnare in una strada faticosa per non esporre alle cadale l'anima tua:
	26 Guardati anche da' propri figliuoli, e pon mente alla gente di tua casa.
	27 In ogni opra tua segni la fede dell'anima tua, perché in questo sta l'osservanza de' comandamenti.
	28 Chi è fedele a Dio, è intento a' suoi comandamenti; e chi confida in lui, non iscapiterà.
