Sirach 32

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Have they made you the presider? Do not let it go to your head, behave like everyone else in the party,see that they are happy and then sit down yourself.	1 Se ti hanno fatto capotavola, non esaltarti. Compòrtati con gli altri come uno di loro. Pensa a loro e poi mettiti a tavola;
2 Having discharged your duties, take your place so that your joy may be through theirs, and you mayreceive the crown for your competence.	2 quando avrai compiuto il tuo dovere, accòmodati per far festa con loro e ricevere complimenti per le tue buone maniere.
3 Speak, old man -- it is proper that you should -- but with discretion: do not spoil the music.	3 Parla, o anziano, poiché ti si addice, ma con saggezza, e non disturbare la musica.
4 If someone is singing, do not ramble on and do not play the sage at the wrong moment.	4 Quando c’è un’esecuzione non effonderti in chiacchiere, e non fare il sapiente fuori tempo.
5 An amber seal on a precious stone, such is a concert of music at a wine feast.	5 Sigillo di rubino su ornamento d’oro è un concerto musicale in un banchetto.
6 An emerald seal in a golden setting, such are strains of music with a vintage wine.	6 Sigillo di smeraldo in una guarnizione d’oro è la melodia dei canti unita alla dolcezza del vino.
7 Speak, young man, when you must, but twice at most, and then only if questioned.	7 Parla, o giovane, se c’è bisogno di te, non più di due volte se sei interrogato.
8 Keep to the point, say much in few words; give the impression of knowing but not wanting to speak.	8 Compendia il tuo discorso, molte cose in poche parole; compòrtati come uno che sa e che tace a un tempo.
9 Among eminent people do not behave as though you were their equal; do not make frivolous remarkswhen someone else is speaking.	9 Fra i grandi non mostrarti presuntuoso, e dove vi sono anziani, non ciarlare troppo.
10 Lightning comes before the thunder, favour goes ahead of a modest person.	10 Prima del tuono viene la folgore, prima dell’uomo modesto viene la grazia.
11 Leave in good time, do not bring up the rear, and hurry home without loitering.	11 All’ora stabilita àlzati e non restare per ultimo, corri a casa e non indugiare.
12 There amuse yourself, and do what you have a mind to, but do not sin by arrogant talk.	12 Là divèrtiti e fa’ quello che ti piace, ma non peccare con parole arroganti.
13 And for all this bless your Creator, who intoxicates you with his favours.	13 Per tutto ciò benedici chi ti ha creato, chi ti colma dei suoi benefici.
14 Whoever fears the Lord wil accept his correction; those who look for him wil win his favour.	14 Chi teme il Signore ne accetta l’istruzione, chi lo ricerca di buon mattino trova il suo favore.
15 Whoever seeks the Law wil be nourished by it, the hypocrite will find it a stumbling-block.	15 Chi scruta la legge viene appagato, ma l’ipocrita vi trova motivo di scandalo.
16 Those who fear the Lord win his approval, their good deeds shining like a light.	16 Quelli che temono il Signore sanno giudicare, i loro giudizi brillano come luce.
17 The sinner waves reproof aside, he finds an excuse for headstrong behaviour.	17 Il peccatore non accetta critiche e trova scuse a suo piacere.
18 A sensible person never scorns a warning; foreigners and the proud do not know about fear.	18 Chi è saggio non trascura la riflessione, l’empio e il superbo non provano alcun timore.
19 Never act without reflection, and you wil not regret your actions.	19 Non fare nulla senza consiglio, non ti pentirai di averlo fatto.
20 Do not venture on a rough road, for fear of stumbling over the stones.	20 Non camminare in una via piena di ostacoli e non inciamperai in luoghi pietrosi.
21 Do not be over-confident on an even road	21 Non fidarti di una via senza inciampi,
22 and beware of your own children.	22 guàrdati anche dai tuoi figli.
23 Watch yourself in everything you do; this is also the way to keep the commandments.	23 In tutto ciò che fai abbi fiducia in te stesso, perché anche questo è osservare i comandamenti.
24 Anyone who trusts in the Law obeys its precepts, no one who has confidence in the Lord wil come toharm.	24 Chi crede alla legge è attento ai comandamenti, chi confida nel Signore non subirà alcun danno.
