Sirach 32

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Have they made you the presider? Do not let it go to your head, behave like everyone else in the party,see that they are happy and then sit down yourself.	1 T'hanno messo a capo? Non te ne insuperbire: stai in mezzo a loro come uno di essi.
2 Having discharged your duties, take your place so that your joy may be through theirs, and you mayreceive the crown for your competence.	2 Abbine cura e poi mettiti a sedere, e, compito in tutto il tuo ufficio, mettiti a tavola.
3 Speak, old man -- it is proper that you should -- but with discretion: do not spoil the music.	3 Così avrai da loro allegrezza, e per decoroso ornamento riceverai la corona, ed otterrai la stima dei convitati.
4 If someone is singing, do not ramble on and do not play the sage at the wrong moment.	4 Parla, o anziano; tocca a te.
5 An amber seal on a precious stone, such is a concert of music at a wine feast.	5 Ma con scelte parole, con sagace dottrina, e non impedir la musica.
6 An emerald seal in a golden setting, such are strains of music with a vintage wine.	6 Dove non c'è chi ascolti non buttar via le parole, e non fare importuna pompa di tua sapienza.
7 Speak, young man, when you must, but twice at most, and then only if questioned.	7 Gemma di rubino incastonata nell'oro è un concerto di musica in un convito col vino.
8 Keep to the point, say much in few words; give the impression of knowing but not wanting to speak.	8 Come sigillo di smeraldo in anello d'oro, così l'armonia dei cantori in giocondo e moderato vino.
9 Among eminent people do not behave as though you were their equal; do not make frivolous remarkswhen someone else is speaking.	9 Ascolta in silenzio, e colla tua riservatezza ti concilierai amore.
10 Lightning comes before the thunder, favour goes ahead of a modest person.	10 Giovane, parla appena nella tua propria causa;
11 Leave in good time, do not bring up the rear, and hurry home without loitering.	11 interrogato due volte, la tua risposta abbia il solo necessario.
12 There amuse yourself, and do what you have a mind to, but do not sin by arrogant talk.	12 In molte cose diportati come se nulla sapessi, e ascolta tacendo e domandando.
13 And for all this bless your Creator, who intoxicates you with his favours.	13 In mezzo ai grandi non presumere di te, e dove son dei vecchi non parlar molto.
14 Whoever fears the Lord wil accept his correction; those who look for him wil win his favour.	14 Avanti la grandine viene il lampo, e la grazia è preceduta dalla modestia, e per la tua riservatezza tu sarai ben veduto.
15 Whoever seeks the Law wil be nourished by it, the hypocrite will find it a stumbling-block.	15 Venuta l'ora di alzarsi, non ti ninnolare, ma sii il primo ad andare a casa tua, e li divertiti e li gioca,
16 Those who fear the Lord win his approval, their good deeds shining like a light.	16 e fai quel che ti viene in mento; ma senza peccare, senza parlar con superbia.
17 The sinner waves reproof aside, he finds an excuse for headstrong behaviour.	17 E in tutte queste cose benedici il Signore, che ti ha fatto e t'inebria con tutti i suoi beni.
18 A sensible person never scorns a warning; foreigners and the proud do not know about fear.	18 Chi teme il Signore ne abbraccerà gl'insegnamenti, e chi avrà vegliato per cercarlo troverà la be nedizione.
19 Never act without reflection, and you wil not regret your actions.	19 Chi cerca la legge ne sarà saziato, e chi agisce con finzione troverà in essa pietra di inciampo.
20 Do not venture on a rough road, for fear of stumbling over the stones.	20 Chi teme il Signore troverà il modo di giudicare rettamente, e farà brillare come fiaccola la giustizia.
21 Do not be over-confident on an even road	21 L'uomo peccatore fuggirà la correzione e troverà delle scuse per fare a suo capriccio.
22 and beware of your own children.	22 L'uomo prudente non trascura di riflettere, lo sventato e il superbo non ammette timori,
23 Watch yourself in everything you do; this is also the way to keep the commandments.	23 anche dopo aver fatto di sua testa e senza consiglio; ma sarà condannato dalle sue opere.
24 Anyone who trusts in the Law obeys its precepts, no one who has confidence in the Lord wil come toharm.	24 Figliolo, non far niente senza consiglio, e non avrai da pentirtene quando l'avrai fatto.
	25 Non camminare per vie rovinose, e non inciamperai nei sassi. Non ti impegnare in via faticosa, per non esporre alla caduta l'anima tua.
	26 Guardati anche dai tuoi figlioli, e stai attento alla gente di casa tua.
	27 In ogni tua azione affidati alla fede dell'anima tua, chè in questo sta l'osservanza dei comandamenti.
	28 Chi crede in Dio sta attento ai suoi comandamenti, e chi confida in lui non resterà deluso.
