Sirach 32

NEW JERUSALEM	EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL
1 Have they made you the presider? Do not let it go to your head, behave like everyone else in the party,see that they are happy and then sit down yourself.	1 Wenn du das Gastmahl leitest, überheb dich nicht, sei unter den Gästen wie einer von ihnen! Sorg erst für sie, dann setz dich selbst, trag erst auf, was sie brauchen, dann lass dich nieder,
2 Having discharged your duties, take your place so that your joy may be through theirs, and you mayreceive the crown for your competence.	2 damit du dich über sie freuen kannst und für dein gutes Benehmen Beifall findest.
3 Speak, old man -- it is proper that you should -- but with discretion: do not spoil the music.	3 Ergreife das Wort, alter Mann, denn dir steht es an. Doch schränke die Belehrung ein und halte den Gesang nicht auf!
4 If someone is singing, do not ramble on and do not play the sage at the wrong moment.	4 Wo man singt, schenk nicht kluge Reden aus! Was willst du zur Unzeit den Weisen spielen?
5 An amber seal on a precious stone, such is a concert of music at a wine feast.	5 Ein Rubin an goldenem Geschmeide, das ist ein schönes Lied beim Weingelage.
6 An emerald seal in a golden setting, such are strains of music with a vintage wine.	6 Ein Smaragdsiegel in goldener Fassung, das ist ein Gesang bei köstlichem Wein.
7 Speak, young man, when you must, but twice at most, and then only if questioned.	7 Als Jüngerer ergreife das Wort nur, wenn du musst, wenn man dich nachdrücklich zwei- oder dreimal auffordert.
8 Keep to the point, say much in few words; give the impression of knowing but not wanting to speak.	8 Dräng die Worte zusammen, fasse dich kurz, sei wie einer, der etwas weiß, aber auch schweigen kann.
9 Among eminent people do not behave as though you were their equal; do not make frivolous remarkswhen someone else is speaking.	9 Im Kreis der Vornehmen überheb dich nicht, behellige Ältere nicht durch viele Fragen!
10 Lightning comes before the thunder, favour goes ahead of a modest person.	10 Vor dem Hagel leuchtet der Blitz, vor dem Bescheidenen leuchtet die Gunst.
11 Leave in good time, do not bring up the rear, and hurry home without loitering.	11 Wenn es Zeit ist, bleib nicht länger, geh nach Haus und sei nicht ausgelassen;
12 There amuse yourself, and do what you have a mind to, but do not sin by arrogant talk.	12 dort sei lustig und überlass dich deiner Stimmung, in Gottesfurcht, nicht in Unverstand.
13 And for all this bless your Creator, who intoxicates you with his favours.	13 Und für all das preise deinen Schöpfer, der dich mit seinen Gaben erfreut hat.
14 Whoever fears the Lord wil accept his correction; those who look for him wil win his favour.	14 Wer Gott sucht, nimmt Belehrung an, wer sich ihm zuwendet, erhält Antwort.
15 Whoever seeks the Law wil be nourished by it, the hypocrite will find it a stumbling-block.	15 Wer im Gesetz forscht, entdeckt seinen Wert, wer aber heuchelt, verfängt sich darin.
16 Those who fear the Lord win his approval, their good deeds shining like a light.	16 Wer den Herrn fürchtet, weiß, was recht ist, aus dem Dunkel lässt er sicheren Rat aufleuchten.
17 The sinner waves reproof aside, he finds an excuse for headstrong behaviour.	17 Der Ruchlose lehnt Zurechtweisung ab, er verdreht das Gesetz, wie er es braucht.
18 A sensible person never scorns a warning; foreigners and the proud do not know about fear.	18 Der Weise verbirgt die Einsicht nicht, der Überhebliche und der Zuchtlose lehnen Belehrung ab.
19 Never act without reflection, and you wil not regret your actions.	19 Tu nichts ohne Rat und Überlegung, dann hast du dir nach der Tat nichts vorzuwerfen.
20 Do not venture on a rough road, for fear of stumbling over the stones.	20 Geh nicht auf einem Weg voller Fallstricke, dann werden deine Füße nicht anstoßen und straucheln.
21 Do not be over-confident on an even road	21 Fühle dich unterwegs nie sicher vor Räubern
22 and beware of your own children.	22 und sei vorsichtig auf deinen Pfaden!
23 Watch yourself in everything you do; this is also the way to keep the commandments.	23 Bei all deinem Tun achte auf dich selbst; denn wer dies tut, beachtet das Gebot.
24 Anyone who trusts in the Law obeys its precepts, no one who has confidence in the Lord wil come toharm.	24 Wer das Gesetz hält, achtet auf sich selbst; wer auf den Herrn vertraut, wird nicht zuschanden.
