1 There is a season for everything, a time for every occupation under heaven:	1 Ogni casa ha il suo tempo, e dentro i termini loro assegnati passano tutte le cose sotto il cielo:
2 A time for giving birth, a time for dying; a time for planting, a time for uprooting what has been planted.	2 tempo di nascere e tempo di morire, tempo di piantare e tempo di sradicare ciò che fu piantato;
3 A time for kil ing, a time for healing; a time for knocking down, a time for building.	3 tempo di uccidere e tempo di risanare, tempo di demolire e tempo d'edificare;
4 A time for tears, a time for laughter; a time for mourning, a time for dancing.	4 tempo di piangere e tempo di ridere, tempo di fare cordoglio e tempo di ballare,
5 A time for throwing stones away, a time for gathering them; a time for embracing, a time to refrain fromembracing.	5 tempo di gettar pietre e tempo di raccoglierle, tempo di abbracciare e tempo di star lontano dagli amplessi;
6 A time for searching, a time for losing; a time for keeping, a time for discarding.	6 tempo di guadagnare e tempo di scapitare, tempo di serbare e tempo di gettar via;
7 A time for tearing, a time for sewing; a time for keeping silent, a time for speaking.	7 tempo di strappare e tempo di cucire, tempo di tacere e tempo di parlare;
8 A time for loving, a time for hating; a time for war, a time for peace.	8 tempo di amore e tempo di odio; tempo di guerra e tempo di pace.
9 What do people gain from the efforts they make?	9 Qual frutto ricava l'uomo dalle sue fatiche?
10 I contemplate the task that God gives humanity to labour at.	10 Osservai l'affanno dato da Dio ai figli degli uomini, affinchè ne sian tormentati.
11 All that he does is apt for its time; but although he has given us an awareness of the passage of time,we can grasp neither the beginning nor the end of what God does.	11 Egli fece tutte le cose buone a suo tempo, e lasciò il mondo alle loro dispute, ma in modo che l'uomo non possa scoprire dal principio alla fine l'opera fatta da Dio.
12 I know there is no happiness for a human being except in pleasure and enjoyment through life.	12 E riconobbi che non c'è altro di meglio che stare allegri e fare del bene in questa vita.
13 And when we eat and drink and find happiness in all our achievements, this is a gift from God.	13 E che se l'uomo mangia e beve e vede il frutto delle sue fatiche, ciò è dono di Dio.
14 I know that whatever God does wil be for ever. To this there is nothing to add, from this there isnothing to subtract, and the way God acts inspires dread.	14 Io imparai che tutte le cose fatte da Dio duran per sempre, e che nulla si può togliere e nulla aggiungere allo cose che Dio ha fatte per essere temuto.
15 What is, has been already, what will be, is already; God seeks out anyone who is persecuted.	15 Ciò che fu fatto rimane; ciò che sarà è già stato, e Dio rinnovella quello che è passato.
16 Again I observe under the sun: crime is where justice should be, the criminal is where the uprightshould be.	16 Io, dopo aver veduto sotto il sole nel posto del giudizio l'empietà, e l'iniquità nel posto della giustizia,
17 And I think to myself: the upright and the criminal will both be judged by God, since there is a time forevery thing and every action here.	17 dissi nel mio cuore: « Dio giudicherà il giusto e l'empio, e allora sarà il tempo d'ogni cosa ».
18 I think to myself: where human beings are concerned, this is so that God can test them and show themthat they are animals.	18 Dissi in cuor mio, riguardo ai figli degli uomini, che Dio li prova e fa vedere che son simili alle bestie.
19 For the fate of human and the fate of animal is the same: as the one dies, so the other dies; both havethe selfsame breath. Human is in no way better off than animal -- since al is futile.	19 Per questo la morte dell'uomo e delle bestie è la stessa, e uguale la condizione di ambedue: come muore l'uomo così muoiono le bestie; uguale è il soffio di vita per tutti, e l'uomo non ha nulla di più della bestia. Tutto è soggetto alla vanità.
20 Everything goes to the same place, everything comes from the dust, everything returns to the dust.	20 Tutto va a finire al medesimo luogo tutto venne dalla, terra e tutto alla terra ugualmente ritornerà.
21 Who knows if the human spirit mounts upward or if the animal spirit goes downward to the earth?	21 Chi sa se lo spirito dei figli di Adamo salga in alto e lo spirito delie bestie scenda sotterra?
22 I see there is no contentment for a human being except happiness in achievement; such is the lot of ahuman beings. No one can tel us what wil happen after we are gone.	22 E conclusi che nulla di meglio v'è per l'uomo se non godere del suo lavoro, e che questa è la sua sorte. Chi infatti lo condurrà a vedere quei che sarà dopo di lui?
