1 There is a season for everything, a time for every occupation under heaven:	1 Tutto ha il suo momento, e ogni evento ha il suo tempo sotto il cielo.
2 A time for giving birth, a time for dying; a time for planting, a time for uprooting what has been planted.	2 C’è un tempo per nascere e un tempo per morire, un tempo per piantare e un tempo per sradicare quel che si è piantato.
3 A time for kil ing, a time for healing; a time for knocking down, a time for building.	3 Un tempo per uccidere e un tempo per curare, un tempo per demolire e un tempo per costruire.
4 A time for tears, a time for laughter; a time for mourning, a time for dancing.	4 Un tempo per piangere e un tempo per ridere, un tempo per fare lutto e un tempo per danzare.
5 A time for throwing stones away, a time for gathering them; a time for embracing, a time to refrain fromembracing.	5 Un tempo per gettare sassi e un tempo per raccoglierli, un tempo per abbracciare e un tempo per astenersi dagli abbracci.
6 A time for searching, a time for losing; a time for keeping, a time for discarding.	6 Un tempo per cercare e un tempo per perdere, un tempo per conservare e un tempo per buttar via.
7 A time for tearing, a time for sewing; a time for keeping silent, a time for speaking.	7 Un tempo per strappare e un tempo per cucire, un tempo per tacere e un tempo per parlare.
8 A time for loving, a time for hating; a time for war, a time for peace.	8 Un tempo per amare e un tempo per odiare, un tempo per la guerra e un tempo per la pace.
9 What do people gain from the efforts they make?	9 Che guadagno ha chi si dà da fare con fatica?
10 I contemplate the task that God gives humanity to labour at.	10 Ho considerato l’occupazione che Dio ha dato agli uomini perché vi si affatichino.
11 All that he does is apt for its time; but although he has given us an awareness of the passage of time,we can grasp neither the beginning nor the end of what God does.	11 Egli ha fatto bella ogni cosa a suo tempo; inoltre ha posto nel loro cuore la durata dei tempi, senza però che gli uomini possano trovare la ragione di ciò che Dio compie dal principio alla fine.
12 I know there is no happiness for a human being except in pleasure and enjoyment through life.	12 Ho capito che per essi non c’è nulla di meglio che godere e procurarsi felicità durante la loro vita;
13 And when we eat and drink and find happiness in all our achievements, this is a gift from God.	13 e che un uomo mangi, beva e goda del suo lavoro, anche questo è dono di Dio.
14 I know that whatever God does wil be for ever. To this there is nothing to add, from this there isnothing to subtract, and the way God acts inspires dread.	14 Riconosco che qualsiasi cosa Dio fa, dura per sempre; non c’è nulla da aggiungere, nulla da togliere. Dio agisce così perché lo si tema.
15 What is, has been already, what will be, is already; God seeks out anyone who is persecuted.	15 Quello che accade, già è stato; quello che sarà, già è avvenuto. Solo Dio può cercare ciò che ormai è scomparso.
16 Again I observe under the sun: crime is where justice should be, the criminal is where the uprightshould be.	16 Ma ho anche notato che sotto il sole al posto del diritto c’è l’iniquità e al posto della giustizia c’è l’iniquità.
17 And I think to myself: the upright and the criminal will both be judged by God, since there is a time forevery thing and every action here.	17 Ho pensato dentro di me: «Il giusto e il malvagio Dio li giudicherà, perché c’è un tempo per ogni cosa e per ogni azione».
18 I think to myself: where human beings are concerned, this is so that God can test them and show themthat they are animals.	18 Poi, riguardo ai figli dell’uomo, mi sono detto che Dio vuole metterli alla prova e mostrare che essi di per sé sono bestie.
19 For the fate of human and the fate of animal is the same: as the one dies, so the other dies; both havethe selfsame breath. Human is in no way better off than animal -- since al is futile.	19 Infatti la sorte degli uomini e quella delle bestie è la stessa: come muoiono queste, così muoiono quelli; c’è un solo soffio vitale per tutti. L’uomo non ha alcun vantaggio sulle bestie, perché tutto è vanità.
20 Everything goes to the same place, everything comes from the dust, everything returns to the dust.	20 Tutti sono diretti verso il medesimo luogo: tutto è venuto dalla polvere e nella polvere tutto ritorna.
21 Who knows if the human spirit mounts upward or if the animal spirit goes downward to the earth?	21 Chi sa se il soffio vitale dell’uomo sale in alto, mentre quello della bestia scende in basso, nella terra?
22 I see there is no contentment for a human being except happiness in achievement; such is the lot of ahuman beings. No one can tel us what wil happen after we are gone.	22 Mi sono accorto che nulla c’è di meglio per l’uomo che godere delle sue opere, perché questa è la parte che gli spetta; e chi potrà condurlo a vedere ciò che accadrà dopo di lui?
