NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 There is a season for everything, a time for every occupation under heaven:	1 Per tutto c'è il suo momento, un tempo per ogni cosa sotto il cielo:
2 A time for giving birth, a time for dying; a time for planting, a time for uprooting what has been planted.	2 Tempo di nascere, tempo di morire, tempo di piantare, tempo di sradicare,
3 A time for kil ing, a time for healing; a time for knocking down, a time for building.	3 tempo di uccidere, tempo di curare, tempo di demolire, tempo di costruire,
4 A time for tears, a time for laughter; a time for mourning, a time for dancing.	4 tempo di piangere, tempo di ridere, tempo di lutto, tempo di allegria,
5 A time for throwing stones away, a time for gathering them; a time for embracing, a time to refrain fromembracing.	5 tempo di gettare, tempo di raccogliere, tempo di abbracciare, tempo di allontanarsi,
6 A time for searching, a time for losing; a time for keeping, a time for discarding.	6 tempo di guadagnare, tempo di perdere, tempo di conservare, tempo di gettare,
7 A time for tearing, a time for sewing; a time for keeping silent, a time for speaking.	7 tempo di stracciare, tempo di cucire, tempo di tacere, tempo di parlare,
8 A time for loving, a time for hating; a time for war, a time for peace.	8 tempo di amare, tempo di odiare, tempo di guerra, tempo di pace.
9 What do people gain from the efforts they make?	9 E che vantaggio viene all'uomo da tutto ciò che fa con fatica?
10 I contemplate the task that God gives humanity to labour at.	10 Ho osservato l'occupazione che Dio ha dato agli uomini perché vi si affatichino.
11 All that he does is apt for its time; but although he has given us an awareness of the passage of time,we can grasp neither the beginning nor the end of what God does.	11 Tutto ciò che egli ha fatto è bello nel suo tempo: egli ha posto nell'uomo anche una certa visione d'insieme, senza però che gli riesca di afferrare da capo a fondo l'opera fatta da Dio.
12 I know there is no happiness for a human being except in pleasure and enjoyment through life.	12 Così ho capito che per l'uomo non c'è alcun bene se non starsene allegro e godersi la vita,
13 And when we eat and drink and find happiness in all our achievements, this is a gift from God.	13 e ho capito anche che il fatto che l'uomo mangi e beva e che abbia successo nella sua fatica, anche questo è dono di Dio.
14 I know that whatever God does wil be for ever. To this there is nothing to add, from this there isnothing to subtract, and the way God acts inspires dread.	14 Ho capito che tutto ciò che Dio fa è per sempre, senza che vi si possa aggiungere o togliere niente. Dio ha fatto così per essere temuto.
15 What is, has been already, what will be, is already; God seeks out anyone who is persecuted.	15 Ciò che già è stato, è; ciò che sarà, già fu. Dio riporta sempre ciò che è scomparso.
16 Again I observe under the sun: crime is where justice should be, the criminal is where the uprightshould be.	16 Un'altra cosa ho visto sotto il sole: al posto del diritto c'è l'iniquità, al posto della giustizia c'è l'iniquità.
17 And I think to myself: the upright and the criminal will both be judged by God, since there is a time forevery thing and every action here.	17 Ne ho concluso che il giusto e l'empio sono sotto il giudizio di Dio, perché c'è un tempo per ogni cosa e un giudizio per ogni azione.
18 I think to myself: where human beings are concerned, this is so that God can test them and show themthat they are animals.	18 Ho pensato fra me a proposito degli uomini: Dio fa questo per provarli e per mostrare che essi, per sé, non sono che bestie.
19 For the fate of human and the fate of animal is the same: as the one dies, so the other dies; both havethe selfsame breath. Human is in no way better off than animal -- since al is futile.	19 Infatti la sorte degli uomini è la stessa che quella degli animali: come muoiono questi così muoiono quelli. Gli uni e gli altri hanno uno stesso soffio vitale, senza che l'uomo abbia nulla in più rispetto all'animale. Gli uni e gli altri sono vento vano.
20 Everything goes to the same place, everything comes from the dust, everything returns to the dust.	20 Gli uni e gli altri vanno verso lo stesso luogo: gli uni e gli altri vengono dalla polvere, gli uni e gli altri tornano alla polvere.
21 Who knows if the human spirit mounts upward or if the animal spirit goes downward to the earth?	21 Chi lo sa se lo spirito vitale dell'uomo sale in alto e se quello dell'animale scende sotterra!
22 I see there is no contentment for a human being except happiness in achievement; such is the lot of ahuman beings. No one can tel us what wil happen after we are gone.	22 Così ho compreso che non c'è alcun bene per l'uomo se non che egli goda di quello che fa, perché solo questo gli è concesso. Nessuno infatti lo porterà a vedere ciò che accadrà dopo di lui.
