Proverbs 3

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 My child, do not forget my teaching, let your heart keep my principles,	1 - Figliuolo mio, non dimenticare il mio insegnamento e il tuo cuore conservi i precetti miei,
2 since they will increase your length of days, your years of life and your wel -being.	2 perchè lunghi giorni ed anni di vita e la pace per giunta te ne verranno.
3 Let faithful love and constancy never leave you: tie them round your neck, write them on the tablet ofyour heart.	3 La misericordia e la verità non ti abbandonino; annodale al tuo collo, scrivile sulle tavole del tuo cuore,
4 Thus you will find favour and success in the sight of God and of people.	4 e ti troverai in grazia ed in buon concettopresso Dio e presso gli uomini.
5 Trust wholeheartedly in Yahweh, put no faith in your own perception;	5 Confida nel Signore con tutto il tuo cuore e non appoggiarti sulla tua prudenza;
6 acknowledge him in every course you take, and he wil see that your paths are smooth.	6 in ogni tuo procedere pensa a luied egli dirigerà i tuoi passi.
7 Do not congratulate yourself on your own wisdom, fear Yahweh and turn your back on evil:	7 Non essere saggio ai tuoi propri occhi, temi Dio e schiva il male.
8 health-giving, this, to your body, relief to your bones.	8 Sarà questo un ristoro alle tue viscere ed un refrigerio alle tue ossa.
9 Honour Yahweh with what goods you have and with the first-fruits of al your produce;	9 Onora Dio delle tue sostanze e dagli le primizie di tutti i tuoi frutti,
10 then your barns will be fil ed with corn, your vats overflowing with new wine.	10 e i tuoi granai saranno ripieni di cibo a sazietàe i tuoi pressoi riboccheranno di vino.
11 My child, do not scorn correction from Yahweh, do not resent his reproof;	11 Figliuol mio, non rigettare la disciplina di Dio e non ti dispiaccia d'esser da lui castigato;
12 for Yahweh reproves those he loves, as a father the child whom he loves.	12 perchè Dio castiga colui che ama e come un padre, del figlio suo se ne compiace.
13 Blessed are those who have discovered wisdom, those who have acquired understanding!	13 L'uomo che trova la sapienza e chi è fornito di prudenza, lui beato!
14 Gaining her is more rewarding than silver, her yield is more valuable than gold.	14 È miglior acquisto il suo che guadagnare argento, e rende frutto di pretto e purissimo oro;
15 She is beyond the price of pearls, nothing you could covet is her equal.	15 è più preziosa di qualunque ricchezza e tutte le cose più care non la pareggiano.
16 In her right hand is length of days; in her left hand, riches and honour.	16 Tiene nella destra longevità di giorni nella sinistra ricchezze e gloria;
17 Her ways are filled with delight, her paths al lead to contentment.	17 le sue vie sono vie amene, e tutti i suoi sentieri pieni di pace.
18 She is a tree of life for those who hold her fast, those who cling to her live happy lives.	18 Essa è l'albero della vita per quelli che l'afferrano e chi la stringe, fortunato lui!
19 In wisdom, Yahweh laid the earth's foundations, in understanding he spread out the heavens.	19 Il Signore con la sapienza fondò la terra ed eresse i cieli con la prudenza;
20 Through his knowledge the depths were cleft open, and the clouds distil the dew.	20 per la sua sapienza scaturirono le fonti degli abissie le nubi si condensarono in rugiada.
21 My child, hold to sound advice and prudence, never let them out of sight;	21 Figliuolo mio, non sfuggano mai dagli occhi tuoi queste cose, fa' tesoro della legge e del consiglio,
22 they wil give life to your soul and beauty to your neck.	22 e ciò sarà vita all'anima tua e prezioso ornamento alla tua gola.
23 You wil go on your way in safety, your feet wil not stumble.	23 Percorrerai così la tua strada in tutta sicurezza e il tuo piede non inciamperà.
24 When you go to bed, you wil not be afraid; once in bed, your sleep will be sweet.	24 Se dormi, non paventerai di nulla; ti coricherai e il tuo sonno sarà saporoso.
25 Have no fear either of sudden terror or of attack mounted by wicked men,	25 Non temerai di repentino spavento, nè che ti assalga la prepotenza degli empi;
26 since Yahweh will be your guarantor, he wil keep your steps from the snare.	26 perchè il Signore sarà al tuo fianco e guarderà il tuo piede affinchè tu non resti preso.
27 Refuse no kindness to those who have a right to it, if it is in your power to perform it.	27 Non impedire di fare del bene a chi lo può, se puoi, fa' altrettanto anche tu.
28 Do not say to your neighbour, 'Go away! Come another time! I will give it you tomorrow,' if you can do itnow.	28 Non dire al tuo amico: «Va' e torna, te la darò domani» se quella cosa la puoi dare subito.
29 Do not plot harm against your neighbour who is living unsuspecting beside you.	29 Non macchinar male contro il tuo amicomentre egli ha in te tutta la fiducia.
30 Do not pick a groundless quarrel with anyone who has done you no harm.	30 Non litigare contro nessuno senza motivo, quando non t'abbia cagionato del male.
31 Do not envy the man of violence, never model your conduct on his;	31 Non farti emulo dell'uomo ingiusto e non imitare la sua condotta.
32 for the wilful wrong-doer is abhorrent to Yahweh, who confides only in the honest.	32 Perchè ogni schernitore è in abominio al Signore che con i semplici è in segreta intimità.
33 Yahweh's curse lies on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the upright.	33 Nella casa dell'empio vien da Dio la povertà, ma le abitazioni dei giusti saranno benedette.
34 He mocks those who mock, but accords his favour to the humble.	34 Egli si beffa dei beffardi, ma ai mansueti darà grazia.
35 Glory is the portion of the wise, all that fools inherit is contempt.	35 I sapienti possederanno la gloria, l'esaltamento degli stolti sarà l'ignominia.
