Proverbs 3

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 My child, do not forget my teaching, let your heart keep my principles,	1 Figlio mio, non dimenticare il mio insegnamento e il tuo cuore custodisca i miei precetti,
2 since they will increase your length of days, your years of life and your wel -being.	2 perché lunghi giorni e anni di vita e tanta pace ti apporteranno.
3 Let faithful love and constancy never leave you: tie them round your neck, write them on the tablet ofyour heart.	3 Bontà e fedeltà non ti abbandonino: légale attorno al tuo collo, scrivile sulla tavola del tuo cuore,
4 Thus you will find favour and success in the sight of God and of people.	4 e otterrai favore e buon successo agli occhi di Dio e degli uomini.
5 Trust wholeheartedly in Yahweh, put no faith in your own perception;	5 Confida nel Signore con tutto il tuo cuore e non affidarti alla tua intelligenza;
6 acknowledge him in every course you take, and he wil see that your paths are smooth.	6 riconoscilo in tutti i tuoi passi ed egli appianerà i tuoi sentieri.
7 Do not congratulate yourself on your own wisdom, fear Yahweh and turn your back on evil:	7 Non crederti saggio ai tuoi occhi, temi il Signore e sta’ lontano dal male:
8 health-giving, this, to your body, relief to your bones.	8 sarà tutta salute per il tuo corpo e refrigerio per le tue ossa.
9 Honour Yahweh with what goods you have and with the first-fruits of al your produce;	9 Onora il Signore con i tuoi averi e con le primizie di tutti i tuoi raccolti;
10 then your barns will be fil ed with corn, your vats overflowing with new wine.	10 i tuoi granai si riempiranno oltre misura e i tuoi tini traboccheranno di mosto.
11 My child, do not scorn correction from Yahweh, do not resent his reproof;	11 Figlio mio, non disprezzare l’istruzione del Signore e non aver a noia la sua correzione,
12 for Yahweh reproves those he loves, as a father the child whom he loves.	12 perché il Signore corregge chi ama, come un padre il figlio prediletto.
13 Blessed are those who have discovered wisdom, those who have acquired understanding!	13 Beato l’uomo che ha trovato la sapienza, l’uomo che ottiene il discernimento:
14 Gaining her is more rewarding than silver, her yield is more valuable than gold.	14 è una rendita che vale più dell’argento e un provento superiore a quello dell’oro.
15 She is beyond the price of pearls, nothing you could covet is her equal.	15 La sapienza è più preziosa di ogni perla e quanto puoi desiderare non l’eguaglia.
16 In her right hand is length of days; in her left hand, riches and honour.	16 Lunghi giorni sono nella sua destra e nella sua sinistra ricchezza e onore;
17 Her ways are filled with delight, her paths al lead to contentment.	17 le sue vie sono vie deliziose e tutti i suoi sentieri conducono al benessere.
18 She is a tree of life for those who hold her fast, those who cling to her live happy lives.	18 È un albero di vita per chi l’afferra, e chi ad essa si stringe è beato.
19 In wisdom, Yahweh laid the earth's foundations, in understanding he spread out the heavens.	19 Il Signore ha fondato la terra con sapienza, ha consolidato i cieli con intelligenza;
20 Through his knowledge the depths were cleft open, and the clouds distil the dew.	20 con la sua scienza si aprirono gli abissi e le nubi stillano rugiada.
21 My child, hold to sound advice and prudence, never let them out of sight;	21 Figlio mio, custodisci il consiglio e la riflessione né mai si allontanino dai tuoi occhi:
22 they wil give life to your soul and beauty to your neck.	22 saranno vita per te e ornamento per il tuo collo.
23 You wil go on your way in safety, your feet wil not stumble.	23 Allora camminerai sicuro per la tua strada e il tuo piede non inciamperà.
24 When you go to bed, you wil not be afraid; once in bed, your sleep will be sweet.	24 Quando ti coricherai, non avrai paura; ti coricherai e il tuo sonno sarà dolce.
25 Have no fear either of sudden terror or of attack mounted by wicked men,	25 Non temerai per uno spavento improvviso, né per la rovina degli empi quando essa verrà,
26 since Yahweh will be your guarantor, he wil keep your steps from the snare.	26 perché il Signore sarà la tua sicurezza e preserverà il tuo piede dal laccio.
27 Refuse no kindness to those who have a right to it, if it is in your power to perform it.	27 Non negare un bene a chi ne ha il diritto, se hai la possibilità di farlo.
28 Do not say to your neighbour, 'Go away! Come another time! I will give it you tomorrow,' if you can do itnow.	28 Non dire al tuo prossimo: «Va’, ripassa, te lo darò domani», se tu possiedi ciò che ti chiede.
29 Do not plot harm against your neighbour who is living unsuspecting beside you.	29 Non tramare il male contro il tuo prossimo, mentre egli dimora fiducioso presso di te.
30 Do not pick a groundless quarrel with anyone who has done you no harm.	30 Non litigare senza motivo con nessuno, se non ti ha fatto nulla di male.
31 Do not envy the man of violence, never model your conduct on his;	31 Non invidiare l’uomo violento e non irritarti per tutti i suoi successi,
32 for the wilful wrong-doer is abhorrent to Yahweh, who confides only in the honest.	32 perché il Signore ha in orrore il perverso, mentre la sua amicizia è per i giusti.
33 Yahweh's curse lies on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the upright.	33 La maledizione del Signore è sulla casa del malvagio, mentre egli benedice la dimora dei giusti.
34 He mocks those who mock, but accords his favour to the humble.	34 Dei beffardi egli si fa beffe e agli umili concede la sua benevolenza.
35 Glory is the portion of the wise, all that fools inherit is contempt.	35 I saggi erediteranno onore, gli stolti invece riceveranno disprezzo.
