Proverbs 3

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 My child, do not forget my teaching, let your heart keep my principles,	1 Hijo mío, no olvides mi lección, en tu corazón guarda mis mandatos,
2 since they will increase your length of days, your years of life and your wel -being.	2 pues largos días y años de vida y bienestar te añadirán.
3 Let faithful love and constancy never leave you: tie them round your neck, write them on the tablet ofyour heart.	3 La piedad y la lealtad no te abandonen; átalas a tu cuello, escríbelas en la tablilla de tu corazón.
4 Thus you will find favour and success in the sight of God and of people.	4 Así hallarás favor y buena acogida a los ojos de Dios y de los hombres.
5 Trust wholeheartedly in Yahweh, put no faith in your own perception;	5 Confía en Yahveh de todo corazón y no te apoyes en tu propia inteligencia;
6 acknowledge him in every course you take, and he wil see that your paths are smooth.	6 reconócele en todos tus caminos y él enderezará tus sendas.
7 Do not congratulate yourself on your own wisdom, fear Yahweh and turn your back on evil:	7 No seas sabio a tus propios ojos, teme a Yahveh y apártate del mal:
8 health-giving, this, to your body, relief to your bones.	8 medicina será para tu carne y regrigerio para tus huesos.
9 Honour Yahweh with what goods you have and with the first-fruits of al your produce;	9 Honra a Yahveh con tus riquezas, con las primicias de todas tus ganancias:
10 then your barns will be fil ed with corn, your vats overflowing with new wine.	10 tus trojes se llenarán de grano y rebosará de mosto tu lagar.
11 My child, do not scorn correction from Yahweh, do not resent his reproof;	11 No desdeñes, hijo mío, la instrucción de Yahveh, no te dé fastidio su reprensión,
12 for Yahweh reproves those he loves, as a father the child whom he loves.	12 porque Yahveh reprende a aquel que ama, como un padre al hijo querido.
13 Blessed are those who have discovered wisdom, those who have acquired understanding!	13 Dichoso el hombre que ha encontrado la sabiduría y el hombre que alcanza la prudencia;
14 Gaining her is more rewarding than silver, her yield is more valuable than gold.	14 más vale su ganancia que la ganancia de plata, su renta es mayor que la del oro.
15 She is beyond the price of pearls, nothing you could covet is her equal.	15 Más preciosa es que las perlas, nada de lo que amas se le iguala.
16 In her right hand is length of days; in her left hand, riches and honour.	16 Largos días a su derecha, y a su izquierda riqueza y gloria.
17 Her ways are filled with delight, her paths al lead to contentment.	17 Sus caminos son caminos de dulzura y todas sus sendas de bienestar.
18 She is a tree of life for those who hold her fast, those who cling to her live happy lives.	18 Es árbol de vida para los que a ella están asidos, felices son los que la abrazan.
19 In wisdom, Yahweh laid the earth's foundations, in understanding he spread out the heavens.	19 Con la Sabiduria fundó Yahveh la tierra, consolidó los cielos con inteligencia;
20 Through his knowledge the depths were cleft open, and the clouds distil the dew.	20 con su ciencia se abrieron los océanos y las nubes destilan el rocío.
21 My child, hold to sound advice and prudence, never let them out of sight;	21 Hijo mío, guarda la prudencia y la reflexión, no se aparten nunca de tus ojos:
22 they wil give life to your soul and beauty to your neck.	22 serán vida para tu alma y adorno para tu cuello.
23 You wil go on your way in safety, your feet wil not stumble.	23 Así irás tranquilo por tu camino y no tropezará tu pie.
24 When you go to bed, you wil not be afraid; once in bed, your sleep will be sweet.	24 No tendrás miedo al acostarte, una vez acostado, será dulce tu sueño.
25 Have no fear either of sudden terror or of attack mounted by wicked men,	25 No temerás el espanto repentino, ni cuando llegue la tormenta de los malos,
26 since Yahweh will be your guarantor, he wil keep your steps from the snare.	26 porque Yahveh será tu tranquilidad y guardará tu pie de caer en el cepo.
27 Refuse no kindness to those who have a right to it, if it is in your power to perform it.	27 No niegues un favor a quien es debido, si en tu mano está el hacérselo.
28 Do not say to your neighbour, 'Go away! Come another time! I will give it you tomorrow,' if you can do itnow.	28 No digas a tu prójimo: «Vete y vuelve, mañana te daré», si tienes algo en tu poder.
29 Do not plot harm against your neighbour who is living unsuspecting beside you.	29 No trames mal contra tu prójimo cuando se sienta confiado junto a ti.
30 Do not pick a groundless quarrel with anyone who has done you no harm.	30 No te querelles contra nadie sin motivo, si no te ha hecho ningún mal.
31 Do not envy the man of violence, never model your conduct on his;	31 No envidies al hombre violento, ni elijas ninguno de sus caminos;
32 for the wilful wrong-doer is abhorrent to Yahweh, who confides only in the honest.	32 porque Yahveh abomina a los perversos, pero su intimidad la tiene con los rectos.
33 Yahweh's curse lies on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the upright.	33 La maldición de Yahveh en la casa del malvado, en cambio bendice la mansión del justo.
34 He mocks those who mock, but accords his favour to the humble.	34 Con los arrogantes es también arrogante, otorga su favor a los pobres.
35 Glory is the portion of the wise, all that fools inherit is contempt.	35 La gloria es patrimonio de los sabios y los necios heredarán la ignominia.
