Proverbs 3

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 My child, do not forget my teaching, let your heart keep my principles,	1 Figliuol mio, non ti scordare della mia legge, e serba in cuor tuo li miei insegnamenti:
2 since they will increase your length of days, your years of life and your wel -being.	2 Perocché questi frutteranno a te lunghezza di giorni, e anni di vita, e pace:
3 Let faithful love and constancy never leave you: tie them round your neck, write them on the tablet ofyour heart.	3 Non si distacchino dal tuo fianco la misericordia, e la verità: fanne monile al tuo collo, e portale scritte nelle tavole del tuo cuore,
4 Thus you will find favour and success in the sight of God and of people.	4 E sarai adorno di grazia, e di modesti costumi nel cospetto di Dio, e degli uomini.
5 Trust wholeheartedly in Yahweh, put no faith in your own perception;	5 Spera con tutto il cuor tuo nel Signore, e non appoggiarti alla tua prudenza.
6 acknowledge him in every course you take, and he wil see that your paths are smooth.	6 In tutte le tue circostanze ripensa a lui, ed egli reggerà i tuoi passi.
7 Do not congratulate yourself on your own wisdom, fear Yahweh and turn your back on evil:	7 Non esser sapiente negli occhi tuoi; temi Dio, e fuggì dal male:
8 health-giving, this, to your body, relief to your bones.	8 Perocché cosi goderan sanità le tue viscere, e fresche saran le tue ossa.
9 Honour Yahweh with what goods you have and with the first-fruits of al your produce;	9 Onora il Signore colle tue facoltà, e da a lui le primizie di tutti i frutti tuoi:
10 then your barns will be fil ed with corn, your vats overflowing with new wine.	10 E i tuoi granaj si empieranno quanto bramar tu puoi, e le tue cantine ridonderanno di vino.
11 My child, do not scorn correction from Yahweh, do not resent his reproof;	11 Figliuol mio, non rigettare la correzione del Signore, e non attediarti quand'ei ti gastiga:
12 for Yahweh reproves those he loves, as a father the child whom he loves.	12 Perocché corregge il Signore quelli che ama: e ne' quali pone il suo alletto, come un padre nel figlio.
13 Blessed are those who have discovered wisdom, those who have acquired understanding!	13 Beato l'uomo, che ha fatto acquisto della sapienza, e il quale è ricco di prudenza:
14 Gaining her is more rewarding than silver, her yield is more valuable than gold.	14 L'acquisto di lei più vale, che l'acquisto dell'argento, e i frutti di lei più che l'oro eletto, e finissimo:
15 She is beyond the price of pearls, nothing you could covet is her equal.	15 Ella è più pregevole di tutte le ricchezze, e le cose più stimate non posson mettersi in paragone con essa.
16 In her right hand is length of days; in her left hand, riches and honour.	16 Ella ha nella destra mano la lunga vita, nella sinistra le ricchezze, e la gloria.
17 Her ways are filled with delight, her paths al lead to contentment.	17 Le vie di lei, vie belle, e in tutti i suoi sentieri è la pace.
18 She is a tree of life for those who hold her fast, those who cling to her live happy lives.	18 Ella è l'albero della vita per quelli, che la abbracciano, ed è beato chi al suo seno la stringe.
19 In wisdom, Yahweh laid the earth's foundations, in understanding he spread out the heavens.	19 Per la sapienza il Signore fondò la terra, e i cieli ordinò per mezzo della prudenza.
20 Through his knowledge the depths were cleft open, and the clouds distil the dew.	20 Per la sapienza di lui scaturirono le sorgenti, e le nubi in rugiada si addensano.
21 My child, hold to sound advice and prudence, never let them out of sight;	21 Figliuol mio, non perder queste cose di vista giammai: osserva la legge, e i miei consigli:
22 they wil give life to your soul and beauty to your neck.	22 Ed ei saranno vita all'anima tua, e ornamento al tuo collo:
23 You wil go on your way in safety, your feet wil not stumble.	23 Allora tu camminerai con fidanza per la tua strada, e non troverà inciampo il tuo piede:
24 When you go to bed, you wil not be afraid; once in bed, your sleep will be sweet.	24 In dormendo sarai senza paure; riposerai, e sarà il tuo sonno soave:
25 Have no fear either of sudden terror or of attack mounted by wicked men,	25 Non temerai di repentino spavento, nè della possanza degli empj, che ti assalisca.
26 since Yahweh will be your guarantor, he wil keep your steps from the snare.	26 Perocché il Signore sarà al tuo fianco, e governerà i tuoi passi, affinchè tu non sii loro preda.
27 Refuse no kindness to those who have a right to it, if it is in your power to perform it.	27 Non impedire, che faccia del bene colui, che può: e se puoi tu, fa del bene.
28 Do not say to your neighbour, 'Go away! Come another time! I will give it you tomorrow,' if you can do itnow.	28 Non dire al tuo amico: Va, e ritorna, demane ti darò, quando tu puoi dar subito.
29 Do not plot harm against your neighbour who is living unsuspecting beside you.	29 Non macchinare alcun male contro del tuo amico, mentre quegli si fida di te.
30 Do not pick a groundless quarrel with anyone who has done you no harm.	30 Non litigare con verun uomo senza motivo, quando quegli non ha fatto a te nissun male
31 Do not envy the man of violence, never model your conduct on his;	31 Non portar invidia all'uomo in giusto, e non imitare i suoi andamenti.
32 for the wilful wrong-doer is abhorrent to Yahweh, who confides only in the honest.	32 Perocché gli schernitori tutti sono in abbominazione dinanzi al Signore, e la sua confabulazione è co' semplici.
33 Yahweh's curse lies on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the upright.	33 Dal Signore è mandata la miseria a casa dell'empio; ma saran benedette le abitazioni de' giusti.
34 He mocks those who mock, but accords his favour to the humble.	34 Daluigli schernitori saranno scherniti, e sarà data la grazia ai mansueti.
35 Glory is the portion of the wise, all that fools inherit is contempt.	35 I saggj avran per loro retaggio la gloria: l'esaltazione degli stolti è la loro ignominia.
