NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The wicked flees when no one is pursuing, the upright is bold as a lion.	1 L'empio fugge, anche se non c'è chi l'insegue; il giusto, come un giovane leone, sta tranquillo.
2 A country in revolt throws up many leaders: with one person wise and experienced, you have stability.	2 Quando un paese è in subbuglio, molti sono i prìncipi, con un uomo intelligente e saggio, a lungo resta stabile.
3 The wicked oppresses the weak: here is a devastating rain -- and farewell, bread!	3 Un uomo empio che opprime i poveri: acquazzone che devasta e fa mancare il pane.
4 Those who forsake the law sing the praises of the wicked, those who observe the law are angered bythem.	4 Chi trasgredisce la legge esalta l'empio; chi osserva la legge è in lotta contro di lui.
5 The wicked do not know what justice means, those who seek Yahweh understand everything.	5 I malvagi non comprendono l'equità; chi cerca il Signore comprende tutto.
6 Better someone poor living an honest life than someone of devious ways however rich.	6 Val più un povero che vive onestamente, che uno dalle vie tortuose, benché ricco.
7 An intel igent child is one who keeps the Law; an associate of profligates brings shame on his father.	7 Chi osserva la legge è un figlio intelligente; chi frequenta i libertini disonora il padre.
8 Whoever increases wealth by usury and interest amasses it for someone else who will bestow it on thepoor.	8 Chi aumenta la ricchezza con l'usura e l'interesse, l'ammassa per chi ha pietà dei poveri.
9 Whoever refuses to listen to the Law, such a one's very prayer is an abomination.	9 Chi gira l'orecchio per non sentir la legge, anche la sua preghiera è ripudiata.
10 Whoever seduces the honest to evil ways wil fal into his own pit. The blameless are the heirs tohappiness.	10 Chi svia i retti in una via malvagia cadrà nella sua fossa; i retti possederanno la felicità.
11 The rich may think himself wise, but the intelligent poor wil unmask him.	11 Si crede saggio uno perché è ricco, ma il povero che ha senno lo smaschera.
12 When the upright triumph, there is great exultation: when the wicked are in the ascendant, peopletake cover.	12 Quando prevalgono i giusti c'è molta allegria; quando si levano gli empi ognuno si allontana.
13 No one who conceals his sins will prosper, whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.	13 Chi nasconde le sue colpe non avrà successo; chi le confessa e fugge avrà misericordia.
14 Blessed the person who is never without fear, whoever hardens his heart will fal into distress.	14 Beato l'uomo che ha sempre timore; chi indurisce il cuore cade nella sventura.
15 Like a roaring lion or a springing bear is a wicked ruler of a powerless people.	15 Leone ruggente e orso affamato: l'empio che domina sopra la gente povera.
16 An unenlightened ruler is rich in rapacity, one who hates greed wil lengthen his days.	16 Un principe privo d'intelligenza moltiplica i balzelli; ma chi odia il lucro prolunga la sua vita.
17 A man guilty of murder wil flee till he reaches his tomb: let no one halt him!	17 Un uomo che è inseguito per un omicidio, fuggirà fino alla tomba. Non lo trattenete!
18 Whoever lives an honest life wil be safe, whoever wavers between two ways falls down in one ofthem.	18 Chi si comporta onestamente sarà salvo; chi vuole stare su due strade, in una inciamperà.
19 Whoever works his land shall have bread and to spare, but no one who chases fantasies has anysense.	19 Chi lavora la sua terra si sazierà di pane; chi insegue chimere sarà sazio d'indigenza.
20 A trustworthy person wil be overwhelmed with blessings, but no one who tries to get rich quickly wilgo unpunished.	20 L'uomo leale sarà ricco di benedizioni; chi ha fretta d'arricchirsi non resterà impunito.
21 It is not good to show partiality, but people will do wrong for a mouthful of bread.	21 Aver riguardo alle persone non è bene; per un boccon di pane l'uomo può peccare.
22 The person of greedy eye chases after wealth, not knowing that want wil be the result.	22 Corre dietro alla ricchezza l'uomo avaro e non sa che lo insegue l'indigenza.
23 Anyone who reproves another wil enjoy more favour in the end than the flatterer.	23 Chi rimprovera, troverà poi maggior favore di chi adula con la lingua.
24 Whoever robs father and mother saying, 'Nothing wrong in that!' is comrade for a brigand.	24 Chi spoglia suo padre e sua madre e dice: "Non è colpa!", è compagno di un brigante.
25 The covetous provokes disputes, whoever trusts in Yahweh wil prosper.	25 Chi è invidioso suscita le risse; chi ha fiducia nel Signore avrà successo.
26 Whoever trusts his own wit is a fool, anyone whose ways are wise wil be safe.	26 Chi confida nel suo cuore è uno stolto; chi cammina nella sapienza sarà salvo.
27 No one who gives to the poor wil ever go short, but whoever closes his eyes will have curses inplenty.	27 Chi dà al povero non avrà mai bisogno; chi chiude gli occhi ha molte maledizioni.
28 When the wicked are in the ascendant, people take cover, but when they perish, the upright multiply.	28 Quando gli empi s'innalzano, ognuno si nasconde; quando son distrutti, i giusti si moltiplicano.
