Proverbs 16

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 A human heart makes the plans, Yahweh gives the answer.	1 All’uomo appartengono i progetti del cuore, ma dal Signore viene la risposta della lingua.
2 A person's own acts seem right to the doer, but Yahweh is the weigher of souls.	2 Agli occhi dell’uomo tutte le sue opere sembrano pure, ma chi scruta gli spiriti è il Signore.
3 Commend what you do to Yahweh, and what you plan wil be achieved.	3 Affida al Signore le tue opere e i tuoi progetti avranno efficacia.
4 Yahweh made everything for its own purpose, yes, even the wicked for the day of disaster.	4 Il Signore ha fatto ogni cosa per il suo fine e anche il malvagio per il giorno della sventura.
5 Every arrogant heart is abhorrent to Yahweh: be sure this wil not go unpunished.	5 Il Signore ha in orrore ogni cuore superbo, certamente non resterà impunito.
6 By faithful love and constancy sin is expiated; by fear of Yahweh evil is avoided.	6 Con la bontà e la fedeltà si espia la colpa, ma con il timore del Signore si evita il male.
7 Let Yahweh be pleased with someone's way of life and he makes that person's very enemies intofriends.	7 Se il Signore si compiace della condotta di un uomo, lo riconcilia anche con i suoi nemici.
8 Better have little and with it uprightness than great revenues with injustice.	8 È meglio avere poco con onestà che molte rendite senza giustizia.
9 The human heart may plan a course, but it is Yahweh who makes the steps secure.	9 Il cuore dell’uomo elabora progetti, ma è il Signore che rende saldi i suoi passi.
10 The lips of the king utter prophecies, he keeps faith when he speaks in judgement.	10 L’oracolo è sulle labbra del re, in giudizio la sua bocca non sbaglia.
11 The balances and scales belong to Yahweh, al the weights in the bag are of his making.	11 La stadera e le bilance giuste appartengono al Signore, sono opera sua tutti i pesi del sacchetto.
12 Evil-doing is abhorrent to kings, since uprightness is a throne's foundation.	12 È un orrore per i re commettere un’azione iniqua, poiché il trono sta saldo con la giustizia.
13 Upright lips are welcome to a king, he loves someone of honest words.	13 Il re si compiace di chi dice la verità, egli ama chi parla con rettitudine.
14 The king's wrath is the herald of death, but the wise will appease it.	14 L’ira del re è messaggera di morte, ma il saggio la placherà.
15 When the king's face brightens it spel s life, his favour is like the rain in spring.	15 Se il volto del re è luminoso, c’è la vita: il suo favore è come pioggia di primavera.
16 Better gain wisdom than gold, choose understanding in preference to silver.	16 Possedere la sapienza è molto meglio dell’oro, acquisire l’intelligenza è preferibile all’argento.
17 To turn from evil is the way of the honest; whoever watches the path keeps life safe.	17 La strada degli uomini retti è evitare il male; conserva la vita chi controlla la sua condotta.
18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fal .	18 Prima della rovina viene l’orgoglio e prima della caduta c’è l’arroganza.
19 Better be humble with the poor than share the booty with the proud.	19 È meglio essere umili con i poveri che spartire la preda con i superbi.
20 Whoever listens closely to the word finds happiness; whoever trusts Yahweh is blessed.	20 Chi è prudente nel parlare troverà il bene, ma chi confida nel Signore è beato.
21 The wise of heart is acclaimed as intel igent, sweetness of speech increases knowledge.	21 Chi è saggio di cuore è ritenuto intelligente; il linguaggio dolce aumenta la dottrina.
22 Shrewdness is a fountain of life for its possessor, the fol y of fools is their own punishment.	22 Fonte di vita è il senno per chi lo possiede, ma castigo degli stolti è la stoltezza.
23 The heart of the wise lends shrewdness to speech and makes words more persuasive.	23 Il cuore del saggio rende assennata la sua bocca e sulle sue labbra fa crescere la dottrina.
24 Kindly words are a honeycomb, sweet to the taste, wholesome to the body.	24 Favo di miele sono le parole gentili, dolce per il palato e medicina per le ossa.
25 There is a way that some think straight, but it leads in the end to death.	25 C’è una via che sembra diritta per l’uomo, ma alla fine conduce su sentieri di morte.
26 A worker's appetite works on his behalf, for his hunger urges him on.	26 La brama fa lavorare chi lavora, è la sua bocca che lo sprona.
27 A worthless person concocts evil, such a one's talk is like a scorching fire.	27 L’uomo iniquo ordisce la sciagura, sulle sue labbra c’è come un fuoco ardente.
28 A troublemaker sows strife, a slanderer divides friend from friend.	28 L’uomo perverso provoca litigi, chi calunnia divide gli amici.
29 The violent lures his neighbour astray and leads him by a way that is not good.	29 L’uomo violento inganna il prossimo e lo spinge per una via non buona.
30 Whoever narrows the eyes to think up tricks and purses the lips has already done wrong.	30 Chi socchiude gli occhi medita inganni, chi stringe le labbra ha già commesso il male.
31 White hairs are a crown of honour, they are found in the ways of uprightness.	31 Diadema splendido è la canizie, ed essa si trova sulla via della giustizia.
32 Better an equable person than a hero, someone with self-mastery than one who takes a city.	32 È meglio la pazienza che la forza di un eroe, chi domina se stesso vale più di chi conquista una città.
33 In the fold of the garment the lot is thrown, but from Yahweh comes the decision.	33 Nel cavo della veste si getta la sorte, ma la decisione dipende tutta dal Signore.
