NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
1 [For the choirmaster Tune: 'Lilies . . .' Of David] Save me, God, for the waters have closed in on myvery being.1 Magistro chori. Secundum " Lilia... ". David.
2 I am sinking in the deepest swamp and there is no firm ground. I have stepped into deep water andthe waves are washing over me.2 Salvum me fac, Deus,
quoniam venerunt aquae usque ad guttur meum.
3 I am exhausted with cal ing out, my throat is hoarse, my eyes are worn out with searching for my God.3 Infixus sum in limo profundi, et non est substantia;
veni in profunda aquarum, et fluctus demersit me.
4 More numerous than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without reason. Those who seek toget rid of me are powerful, my treacherous enemies. (Must I give back what I have never stolen?)4 Laboravi clamans, raucae factae sunt fauces meae;
defecerunt oculi mei, dum spero in Deum meum.
5 God, you know how foolish I am, my offences are not hidden from you.5 Multiplicati sunt super capillos capitis mei,
qui oderunt me gratis.
Confortati sunt, qui persecuti sunt me inimici mei mendaces;
quae non rapui, tunc exsolvebam.
6 Those who hope in you must not be made fools of, Yahweh Sabaoth, because of me! Those who seekyou must not be disgraced, God of Israel, because of me!6 Deus, tu scis insipientiam meam,
et delicta mea a te non sunt abscondita.
7 It is for you I bear insults, my face is covered with shame,7 Non erubescant in me, qui exspectant te,
Domine, Domine virtutum.
Non confundantur super me,
qui quaerunt te, Deus Israel.
8 I am estranged from my brothers, alienated from my own mother's sons;8 Quoniam propter te sustinui opprobrium,
operuit confusio faciem meam;
9 for I am eaten up with zeal for your house, and insults directed against you fall on me.9 extraneus factus sum fratribus meis
et peregrinus filiis matris meae.
10 I mortify myself with fasting, and find myself insulted for it,10 Quoniam zelus domus tuae comedit me,
et opprobria exprobrantium tibi ceciderunt super me.
11 I dress myself in sackcloth and become their laughing-stock,11 Et flevi in ieiunio animam meam,
et factum est in opprobrium mihi.
12 the gossip of people sitting at the gate, and the theme of drunkards' songs.12 Et posui vestimentum meum cilicium,
et factus sum illis in parabolam.
13 And so, I pray to you, Yahweh, at the time of your favour; in your faithful love answer me, in theconstancy of your saving power.13 Adversum me loquebantur, qui sedebant in porta,
et in me canebant, qui bibebant vinum.
14 Rescue me from the mire before I sink in; so I shal be saved from those who hate me, from thewatery depths.14 Ego vero orationem meam ad te, Domine,
in tempore beneplaciti, Deus.
In multitudine misericordiae tuae exaudi me,
in veritate salutis tuae.
15 Let not the waves wash over me, nor the deep swal ow me up, nor the pit close its mouth on me.15 Eripe me de luto, ut non infigar,
eripiar ab iis, qui oderunt me,
et de profundis aquarum.
16 Answer me, Yahweh, for your faithful love is generous; in your tenderness turn towards me;16 Non me demergat fluctus aquarum,
neque absorbeat me profundum,
neque urgeat super me puteus os suum.
17 do not turn away from your servant, be quick to answer me, for I am in trouble.17 Exaudi me, Domine, quoniam benigna est misericordia tua;
secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum respice in me.
18 Come to my side, redeem me, ransom me because of my enemies.18 Et ne avertas faciem tuam a puero tuo;
quoniam tribulor, velociter exaudi me.
19 You know well the insults, the shame and disgrace I endure. Every one of my oppressors is known toyou.19 Accede ad animam meam, vindica eam,
propter inimicos meos redime me.
20 Insult has broken my heart past cure. I hoped for sympathy, but in vain, for consolers -- not one to befound.20 Tu scis opprobrium meum
et confusionem meam et reverentiam meam. -
In conspectu tuo sunt omnes, qui tribulant me;
21 To eat they gave me poison, to drink, vinegar when I was thirsty.21 opprobrium contrivit cor meum, et elangui.
Et sustinui, qui simul contristaretur, et non fuit,
et qui consolaretur, et non inveni.
22 May their own table prove a trap for them, and their abundance a snare;22 Et dederunt in escam meam fel
et in siti mea potaverunt me aceto.
23 may their eyes grow so dim that they cannot see, al their muscles lose their strength.23 Fiat mensa eorum coram ipsis in laqueum
et in retributiones et in scandalum.
24 Vent your fury on them, let your burning anger overtake them.24 Obscurentur oculi eorum, ne videant,
et lumbos eorum semper infirma.
25 Reduce their encampment to ruin, and leave their tents untenanted,25 Effunde super eos iram tuam,
et furor irae tuae comprehendat eos.
26 for hounding someone you had already stricken, for redoubling the pain of one you had wounded.26 Fiat commoratio eorum deserta,
et in tabernaculis eorum non sit qui inhabitet.
27 Charge them with crime after crime, exclude them from your saving justice,27 Quoniam, quem tu percussisti, persecuti sunt,
et super dolorem eius, quem vulnerasti, addiderunt.
28 erase them from the book of life, do not enrol them among the upright.28 Appone iniquitatem super iniquitatem eorum,
et non veniant ad iustitiam tuam.
29 For myself, wounded wretch that I am, by your saving power raise me up!29 Deleantur de libro viventium
et cum iustis non scribantur.
30 I wil praise God's name in song, I wil extol him by thanksgiving,30 Ego autem sum pauper et dolens;
salus tua, Deus, suscipit me.
31 for this wil please Yahweh more than an ox, than a bullock horned and hoofed.31 Laudabo nomen Dei cum cantico
et magnificabo eum in laude.
32 The humble have seen and are glad. Let your courage revive, you who seek God.32 Et placebit Domino super taurum,
super vitulum cornua producentem et ungulas.
33 For God listens to the poor, he has never scorned his captive people.33 Videant humiles et laetentur;
quaerite Deum, et vivet cor vestrum,
34 Let heaven and earth and seas, and al that stirs in them, acclaim him!34 quoniam exaudivit pauperes Dominus
et vinctos suos non despexit.
35 For God wil save Zion, and rebuild the cities of Judah, and people will live there on their own land;35 Laudent illum caeli et terra,
maria et omnia reptilia in eis.
36 the descendants of his servants wil inherit it, and those who love his name wil dwell there.36 Quoniam Deus salvam faciet Sion
et aedificabit civitates Iudae;
et inhabitabunt ibi et possidebunt eam.
37 Et semen servorum eius hereditabunt eam;
et, qui diligunt nomen eius, habitabunt in ea.
