Psalms 49

NEW JERUSALEM	STUTTGARTENSIA-DELITZSCH
1 [For the choirmaster Of the sons of Korah Psalm] Hear this, all nations, listen, al who dwel on earth,	1 לַמְנַצֵּחַ ׀ לִבְנֵי־קֹרַח מִזְמֹור
2 people high and low, rich and poor alike!	2 שִׁמְעוּ־זֹאת כָּל־הָעַמִּים הַאֲזִינוּ כָּל־יֹשְׁבֵי חָלֶד
3 My lips have wisdom to utter, my heart good sense to whisper.	3 גַּם־בְּנֵי אָדָם גַּם־בְּנֵי־אִישׁ יַחַד עָשִׁיר וְאֶבְיֹון
4 I listen careful y to a proverb, I set my riddle to the music of the harp.	4 פִּי יְדַבֵּר חָכְמֹות וְהָגוּת לִבִּי תְבוּנֹות
5 Why should I be afraid in times of trouble? Malice dogs me and hems me in.	5 אַטֶּה לְמָשָׁל אָזְנִי אֶפְתַּח בְּכִנֹּור חִידָתִי
6 They trust in their wealth, and boast of the profusion of their riches.	6 לָמָּה אִירָא בִּימֵי רָע עֲוֹן עֲקֵבַי יְסוּבֵּנִי
7 But no one can ever redeem himself or pay his own ransom to God,	7 הַבֹּטְחִים עַל־חֵילָם וּבְרֹב עָשְׁרָם יִתְהַלָּלוּ
8 the price for himself is too high; it can never be	8 אָח לֹא־פָדֹה יִפְדֶּה אִישׁ לֹא־יִתֵּן לֵאלֹהִים כָּפְרֹו
9 that he wil live on for ever and avoid the sight of the abyss.	9 וְיֵקַר פִּדְיֹון נַפְשָׁם וְחָדַל לְעֹולָם
10 For he wil see the wise also die no less than the fool and the brute, and leave their wealth behind forothers.	10 וִיחִי־עֹוד לָנֶצַח לֹא יִרְאֶה הַשָּׁחַת
11 For ever no home but their tombs, their dwel ing-place age after age, though they gave their name towhole territories.	11 כִּי יִרְאֶה ׀ חֲכָמִים יָמוּתוּ יַחַד כְּסִיל וָבַעַר יֹאבֵדוּ וְעָזְבוּ לַאֲחֵרִים חֵילָם
12 In prosperity people lose their good sense, they become no better than dumb animals.	12 קִרְבָּם בָּתֵּימֹו ׀ לְעֹולָם מִשְׁכְּנֹתָם לְדֹר וָדֹר קָרְאוּ בִשְׁמֹותָם עֲלֵי אֲדָמֹות
13 So they go on in their self-assurance, right up to the end they are content with their lot.Pause	13 וְאָדָם בִּיקָר בַּל־יָלִין נִמְשַׁל כַּבְּהֵמֹות נִדְמוּ
14 They are penned in Sheol like sheep, Death wil lead them to pasture, and those who are honest wilrule over them. In the morning al trace of them wil be gone, Sheol wil be their home.	14 זֶה דַרְכָּם כֵּסֶל לָמֹו וְאַחֲרֵיהֶם ׀ בְּפִיהֶם יִרְצוּ סֶלָה
15 But my soul God wil ransom from the clutches of Sheol, and wil snatch me up.Pause	15 כַּצֹּאן ׀ לִשְׁאֹול שַׁתּוּ מָוֶת יִרְעֵם וַיִּרְדּוּ בָם יְשָׁרִים ׀ לַבֹּקֶר [וְצִירָם כ] (וְצוּרָם ק) לְבַלֹּות שְׁאֹול מִזְּבֻל לֹו
16 Do not be overawed when someone gets rich, and lives in ever greater splendour;	16 אַךְ־אֱלֹהִים יִפְדֶּה נַפְשִׁי מִיַּד־שְׁאֹול כִּי יִקָּחֵנִי סֶלָה
17 when he dies he wil take nothing with him, his wealth wil not go down with him.	17 אַל־תִּירָא כִּי־יַעֲשִׁר אִישׁ כִּי־יִרְבֶּה כְּבֹוד בֵּיתֹו
18 Though he pampered himself while he lived -- and people praise you for looking after yourself-	18 כִּי לֹא בְמֹותֹו יִקַּח הַכֹּל לֹא־יֵרֵד אַחֲרָיו כְּבֹודֹו
19 he will go to join the ranks of his ancestors, who wil never again see the light.	19 כִּי־נַפְשֹׁו בְּחַיָּיו יְבָרֵךְ וְיֹודֻךָ כִּי־תֵיטִיב לָךְ
20 In prosperity people lose their good sense, they become no better than dumb animals.	20 תָּבֹוא עַד־דֹּור אֲבֹותָיו עַד־נֵצַח לֹא יִרְאוּ־אֹור
	21 אָדָם בִּיקָר וְלֹא יָבִין נִמְשַׁל כַּבְּהֵמֹות נִדְמוּ
	22 כֹּה־אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה הִנֵּה אֶשָּׂא אֶל־גֹּויִם יָדִי וְאֶל־עַמִּים אָרִים נִסִּי וְהֵבִיאוּ בָנַיִךְ בְּחֹצֶן וּבְנֹתַיִךְ עַל־כָּתֵף תִּנָּשֶׂאנָה
	23 וְהָיוּ מְלָכִים אֹמְנַיִךְ וְשָׂרֹותֵיהֶם מֵינִיקֹתַיִךְ אַפַּיִם אֶרֶץ יִשְׁתַּחֲווּ לָךְ וַעֲפַר רַגְלַיִךְ יְלַחֵכוּ וְיָדַעַתְּ כִּי־אֲנִי יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יֵבֹשׁוּ קֹוָי׃ ס
	24 הֲיֻקַּח מִגִּבֹּור מַלְקֹוחַ וְאִם־שְׁבִי צַדִּיק יִמָּלֵט
	25 כִּי־כֹה ׀ אָמַר יְהוָה גַּם־שְׁבִי גִבֹּור יֻקָּח וּמַלְקֹוחַ עָרִיץ יִמָּלֵט וְאֶת־יְרִיבֵךְ אָנֹכִי אָרִיב וְאֶת־בָּנַיִךְ אָנֹכִי אֹושִׁיעַ
	26 וְהַאֲכַלְתִּי אֶת־מֹונַיִךְ אֶת־בְּשָׂרָם וְכֶעָסִיס דָּמָם יִשְׁכָּרוּן וְיָדְעוּ כָל־בָּשָׂר כִּי אֲנִי יְהוָה מֹושִׁיעֵךְ וְגֹאֲלֵךְ אֲבִיר יַעֲקֹב׃ ס
