[Song Psalm Of the sons of Korah] Great is Yahweh and most worthy of praise in the city of our God,the holy mountain, | 1 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. |
towering in beauty, the joy of the whole world: Mount Zion in the heart of the north, the settlement ofthe great king; | 2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. |
God himself among its palaces has proved himself its bulwark. | 3 God is known in her palaces for a refuge. |
For look, kings made al iance, together they advanced; | 4 For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together. |
without a second glance, when they saw, they panicked and fled away. | 5 They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away. |
Trembling seized them on the spot, pains like those of a woman in labour; | 6 Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail. |
it was the east wind, that wrecker of ships from Tarshish. | 7 Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind. |
What we had heard we saw for ourselves in the city of our God, in the city of Yahweh Sabaoth, whichGod has established for ever.Pause | 8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah. |
We reflect on your faithful love, God, in your temple! | 9 We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple. |
Both your name and your praise, God, are over the whole wide world. Your right hand is ful of savingjustice, | 10 According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness. |
Mount Zion rejoices, the daughters of Judah delight because of your saving justice. | 11 Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments. |
Go round Zion, walk right through her, count her bastions, | 12 Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof. |
admire her walls, examine her palaces, to tel future generations | 13 Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following. |
that such is God; our God for ever and ever, he is our guide! | 14 For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death. |
