NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Silver has its mines, and gold a place for refining.	1 Há lugares de onde se tira a prata, lugares onde o ouro é apurado;
2 Iron is extracted from the earth, the smelted rocks yield copper.	2 o ferro é extraído do solo, o cobre é extraído de uma pedra fundida.
3 Man makes an end of darkness, to the utmost limit he digs the black rock in shadow dark as death.	3 Foi posto um fim às trevas, escavaram-se as últimas profundidades da rocha obscura e sombria.
4 Foreigners bore into ravines in unfrequented places, swinging suspended far from human beings.	4 Longe dos lugares habitados {o mineiro} abre galerias que são ignoradas pelos pés dos transeuntes; suspenso, vacila longe dos humanos.
5 That earth from which bread comes is ravaged underground by fire.	5 A terra, que produz o pão, é sacudida em suas entranhas como se fosse pelo fogo.
6 There, the rocks have veins of sapphire and their dust contains gold.	6 As rochas encerram a safira, assim como o pó do ouro.
7 That is a path unknown to birds of prey, unseen by the eye of any vulture;	7 A águia não conhece a vereda, o olho do abutre não a viu;
8 a path not trodden by the lordly beasts, where no lion ever walked.	8 os altivos animais não a pisaram, o leão não passou por ela.
9 Man attacks the flint, upturning mountains by their roots.	9 O homem põe a mão no sílex, derruba as montanhas pela base;
10 He cuts canals through the rock, on the watch for anything precious.	10 fura galerias nos rochedos, o olho pode ver nelas todos os tesouros.
11 He explores the sources of rivers, bringing hidden things to light.	11 Explora as nascentes dos rios, e põe a descoberto o que estava escondido.
12 But where does Wisdom come from? Where is Intel igence to be found?	12 Mas a sabedoria, de onde sai ela? Onde está o jazigo da inteligência?
13 No human being knows the way to her, she is not to be found on earth where they live.	13 O homem ignora o caminho dela, ninguém a encontra na terra dos vivos.
14 'She is not in me,' says the Abyss; 'Nor here,' replies the Sea.	14 O abismo diz: Ela não está em mim. Não está comigo, diz o mar.
15 She cannot be bought with solid gold, nor paid for with any weight of silver,	15 Não pode ser adquirida com ouro maciço, não pode ser comprada a peso de prata.
16 nor valued against gold of Ophir, precious agate or sapphire.	16 Não pode ser posta em balança com o ouro de Ofir, com o ônix precioso ou a safira.
17 Neither gold nor glass compares with her, for her, a vase of fine gold would be no exchange,	17 Não pode ser comparada nem ao ouro nem ao vidro, ninguém a troca por vaso de ouro fino.
18 let alone coral or crystal: better go fishing for Wisdom than for pearls!	18 Quanto ao coral e ao cristal, nem se fala, a sabedoria vale mais do que as pérolas.
19 Topaz from Cush is worthless in comparison, and gold, even refined, is valueless.	19 Não pode ser igualada ao topázio da Etiópia, não pode ser equiparada ao mais puro ouro.
20 But where does Wisdom come from? Where is Intel igence to be found?	20 De onde vem, pois, a sabedoria? Onde está o jazigo da inteligência?
21 She cannot be seen by any living creature, she is hidden from the birds of the sky.	21 Um véu a oculta de todos os viventes, até das aves do céu ela se esconde.

26 when he imposed a law on the rain and mapped a route for thunderclaps to fol ow,	26 quando fixava as leis da chuva, e traçava uma rota aos relâmpagos,
27 then he saw and evaluated her, looked her through and through, assessing her.	27 então a viu e a descreveu, penetrou-a e escrutou-a.
28 Then he said to human beings, 'Wisdom? - that is fear of the Lord; Intel igence? - avoidance of evil.'	28 Depois disse ao homem: O temor do Senhor, eis a sabedoria; fugir do mal, eis a inteligência.
