NEW JERUSALEMDOUAI-RHEIMS
Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
'Tel the Israelites to set aside a contribution for me; you wil accept a contribution from everyonewhose heart prompts him to give it.2 Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring firstfruits to me: of every man that offereth of his own accord, you shall take them.
And this is what you wil accept from them: gold, silver and bronze;3 And these are the things you must take: gold, and silver, and brass,
materials dyed violet-purple, red-purple and crimson, fine linen, goats' hair;4 Violet and purple, and scarlet twice dyed, and fine linen, and goats' hair,
rams' skins dyed red, fine leather, acacia wood;5 And rams' skins dyed red, and violet skins, and setim wood:
oil for the light, spices for the anointing oil and fragrant incense;6 Oil to make lights: spices for ointment, and for sweetsmelling incense:
cornelian and other stones to be set in the ephod and breastplate.7 Onyx stones, and precious stones to adorn the ephod and the rational.
Make me a sanctuary so that I can reside among them.8 And they shall make me a sanctuary, and I will dwell in the midst of them:
You will make it al according to the design for the Dwel ing and the design for its furnishings which Ishall now show you.9 According to all the likeness of the tabernacle which I will shew thee, and of all the vessels for the service thereof: and thus you shall make it:
'You must make me an ark of acacia wood, two and a half cubits long, one and a half cubits wide andone and a half cubits high.10 Frame an ark of setim wood, the length whereof shall be of two cubits and a half: the breadth, a cubit and a half: the height, likewise, a cubit and a half.
You wil overlay it, inside and out, with pure gold and make a gold moulding al round it.11 And thou shalt overlay it with the purest gold within and without: and over it thou shalt make a golden crown round about:
You wil cast four gold rings for it and fix them to its four supports: two rings on one side and tworings on the other.12 And four golden rings, which thou shall put at the four corners of the ark: let two rings be on the one side, and two on the other.
You wil also make shafts of acacia wood and overlay them with gold13 Thou shalt make bars also of setim wood, and shalt overlay them with gold.
and pass the shafts through the rings on the sides of the ark, by which to carry it.14 And thou shalt put them in through the rings that are in the sides of the ark, that it may be carried on them.
The shafts wil stay in the rings of the ark and not be withdrawn.15 And they shall be always in the rings, neither shall they at any time be drawn out of them.
Inside the ark you wil put the Testimony which I am about to give you.16 And thou shalt put in the ark the testimony which I will give thee.
'You wil also make a mercy-seat of pure gold, two and a half cubits long and one and a half cubitswide,17 Thou shalt make also a propitiatory of the purest gold: the length thereof shall be two cubits and a half, and the breadth a cubit and a half.
and you wil model two great winged creatures of beaten gold, you wil make them at the two ends ofthe mercy-seat.18 Thou shalt make also two cherubims of beaten gold, on the two sides of the oracle.
Model one of the winged creatures at one end and the other winged creature at the other end; youwil model the winged creatures of a piece with the mercy-seat at either end.19 Let one cherub be on the one side, and the other on the other.
The winged creatures must have their wings spread upwards, protecting the mercy-seat with theirwings and facing each other, their faces being towards the mercy-seat.20 Let them cover both sides of the propitiatory, spreading their wings, and covering the oracle, and let them look one towards the other, their faces being turned towards the propitiatory wherewith the ark is to be covered.
You wil put the mercy-seat on the top of the ark, and inside the ark you will put the Testimony which Iam about to give you.21 In which thou shalt put the testimony that I will give thee.
There I shall come to meet you; from above the mercy-seat, from between the two winged creatureswhich are on the ark of the Testimony, I shall give you al my orders for the Israelites.22 Thence will I give orders, and will speak to thee over the propitiatory, and from the midst of the two cherubims, which shall be upon the ark of the testimony, all things which I will command the children of Israel by thee.
'You must also make a table of acacia wood, two cubits long, one cubit wide and one and a halfcubits high.23 Thou shalt make a table also of setim wood, of two cubits in length, and a cubit in breadth, and a cubit and half in height.
You wil overlay it with pure gold, and make a gold moulding al round it.24 And thou shalt overlay it with the purest gold: and thou shalt make to it a golden ledge round about.
You wil fit it with struts of a hand's breadth and make a gold moulding round the struts.25 And to the ledge itself a polished crown, four inches high: and over the same another little golden crown.
You wil make four gold rings for it and fix the four rings at the four corners where the four legs are.26 Thou shalt prepare also four golden rings, and shalt put them in the four corners of the same table over each foot.
The rings must lie close to the struts to hold the shafts for carrying the table.27 Under the crown shall the golden rings be, that the bars may be put through them, and the table may be carried.
You must make the shafts of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. The table must be carried bythese.28 The bars also themselves thou shalt make of setim wood, and shalt overlay them with gold to bear up the table.
You must make dishes, cups, jars and libation bowls for it; you must make these of pure gold,29 Thou shalt prepare also dishes, and bowls, censers, and cups, wherein the libations are to be offered of the purest gold.
and on the table, in my presence, you wil always put the loaves of permanent offering.30 And thou shalt set upon the table loaves of proposition in my sight always.
'You wil also make a lamp-stand of pure gold; the lamp-stand must be of beaten gold, base andstem. Its cups, calyxes and petals, must be of a piece with it.31 Thou shalt make also a candlestick of beaten work of the finest gold, the shaft thereof, and the branches, the cups, and the bowls, and the lilies going forth from it.
Six branches must spring from its sides: three of the lamp-stand's branches from one side, three ofthe lamp-stand's branches from the other.32 Six branches shall come out of the sides, three out of the one side, and three out of the other.
The first branch must carry three cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with its calyx and petals;the second branch, too, must carry three cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with its calyx and bud, andsimilarly for all six branches springing from the lamp-stand.33 Three cups as it were nuts to every branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily; and three cups, likewise of the fashion of nuts in the other branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily. Such shall be the work of the six branches, that are to come out from the shaft:
The lamp-stand itself must carry four cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with its calyx and bud:34 And in the candlestick itself shall be four cups in the manner of a nut, and at every one, bowls and lilies.
one calyx under the first two branches springing from the lamp-stand, one calyx under the next pairof branches and one calyx under the last pair of branches -- thus for al six branches springing from the lamp-stand.35 Bowls under two branches in three places, which together make six coming forth out of one shaft.
The calyxes and the branches wil be of a piece with the lamp-stand, and the whole made from asingle piece of pure gold, beaten out.36 And both the bowls and the branches shall be of the same beaten work of the purest gold.
You wil also make seven lamps for it and mount the lamps in such a way that they light up the spacein front of it.37 Thou shalt make also seven lamps, and shalt set them upon the candlestick, to give light over against.
The snuffers and trays must be of pure gold.38 The snuffers also and where the snuffings shall be put out, shall be made of the purest gold.
You wil use a talent of pure gold for the lamp-stand and al its accessories;39 The whole weight of the candlestick with all the furniture thereof shall be a talent of the purest gold.
and see that you work to the design which was shown you on the mountain.'40 Look and make it according to the pattern, that was shewn thee in the mount.
