At the end of the twenty years which it took Solomon to build the Temple of Yahweh and his ownpalace,1 After the twenty years during which Solomon built the house of the LORD and his own house,
and to rebuild the towns which Huram had given him and settle them with Israelites,2 he built up the cities which Huram had given him, and settled Israelites there.
Solomon mounted an expedition against Hamath-Zobah and captured it.3 Then Solomon went to Hamath of Zoba and conquered it.
He also fortified Tadmor in the desert and all the storage towns which he had built in Hamath.4 He built Tadmor in the desert region and all the supply cities, which he built in Hamath.
He also built Upper Beth-Horon and Lower Beth-Horon as fortified towns with wal s and gates and bars,5 He built Upper Beth-horon and Lower Beth-horon, fortified cities with walls, gates and bars;
also Baalath and al Solomon's storage towns, al the towns for his chariots and horses, and everythingwhich Solomon was pleased to build in Jerusalem, in the Lebanon and throughout the territory under his rule.6 also Baalath, all the supply cities belonging to Solomon, and all the cities for the chariots, the cities for the horsemen, and whatever else Solomon decided should be built in Jerusalem, in the Lebanon, and in the entire land under his dominion.
Al those who survived of the Hittite, Amorite, Perizzite, Hivite and Jebusite peoples, who did not belongto Israel-7 All the people that remained of the Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not of Israel--
those of their descendants stil remaining in the country, whom the Israelites had not exterminated,these Solomon levied for forced labour, as is stil the case today.8 that is, their descendants remaining in the land, whom the Israelites had not destroyed--Solomon subjected to forced labor, as they continue to this day.
Solomon did not, however, impose forced labour on the Israelites for his work -- for they were soldiers,his senior officers and his chariot and cavalry commanders.9 But Solomon did not enslave the Israelites for his works. They became soldiers, commanders of his warriors, and commanders of his chariots and his horsemen.
There were two hundred and fifty of King Solomon's officials in charge of the foremen who supervisedthe people.10 They were also King Solomon's two hundred and fifty overseers who had charge of the people.
Solomon moved Pharaoh's daughter up from the City of David to the palace which he had built for her.'I must not be responsible', he said, 'for a woman living in the palace of David king of Israel, for these buildings towhich the ark of Yahweh has come are sacred.'11 Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh up from the City of David to the palace which he had built for her, for he said, "No wife of mine shall dwell in the house of David, king of Israel, for the places where the ark of the LORD has come are holy."
Thereafter, Solomon made burnt offerings to Yahweh on the altar of Yahweh which he had built infront of the portico,12 In those times Solomon offered holocausts to the LORD upon the altar of the LORD which he had built in front of the porch,
in accordance with the regular prescriptions for burnt sacrifice as commanded by Moses, on theSabbaths, New Moons and the three annual feasts; the feast of Unleavened Bread, the feast of Weeks and thefeast of Shelters.13 as was required day by day according to the command of Moses, and in particular on the sabbaths, at the new moons, and on the fixed festivals three times a year: on the feast of the Unleavened Bread, the feast of Weeks and the feast of Booths.
Fol owing the prescriptions of his father David, he assigned the orders of priests to their duties and theLevites to their tasks of praise and of assisting the priests in accordance with day-to-day requirements; as alsothe gatekeepers in their various orders to each gate -- for such was the command of David, man of God.14 And according to the ordinance of his father David he appointed the various classes of the priests for their service, and the Levites according to their functions of praise and ministry alongside the priests, as the daily duty required. The gatekeepers of the various classes stood guard at each gate, since such was the command of David, the man of God.
Nor was there deviation on any point from the king's command as regards the priests, the Levites oreven the storehouses.15 There was no deviation from the king's command in any respect relating to the priests and Levites or the treasuries.
Thus, al the work was over which Solomon had put in hand when the Temple of Yahweh was foundeduntil it was finished. The Temple of Yahweh was complete in every detail.16 All of Solomon's work was carried out successfully from the day the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid until the house of the LORD had been completed in every detail.
Solomon then mounted an expedition to Ezion-Geber and Elath on the sea-coast of Edom.17 In those times Solomon went to Ezion-geber and to Elath on the seashore of the land of Edom.
Huram sent him ships through his agents, as wel as experienced sailors, who went to Ophir with menin Solomon's service, where they took on four hundred and fifty talents of gold, which they brought back to KingSolomon.18 Huram, through his servants, sent him ships and crewmen acquainted with the sea, who accompanied Solomon's servants to Ophir and brought back from there four hundred and fifty talents of gold to King Solomon.
